BALLSTON SPA SPONSOR-A-SCHOLAR PROGRAM CELEBRATES STUDENT SUCCESS
BALLSTON SPA – The Ballston Spa High School Class of 2015 includes 16 students that participated in the Ballston Spa Sponsor-A-Scholar program, starting as sophomores. The students were recently congratulated at a cer-emony held at TEC-SMART in Malta. The group includes Anais Augustin, Jonathan Augustin, Kalei Capone, Kelshonda Crawford, Evan Irivine, Adri-anna Jones, Makayla Mason, Christopher Northrop, Anna Payne, Shaniqua Robinson, Travis Rougie, Alexandria Seeley, Jenni Smith, Shamar Smith, Samantha Stone, and Lyndse Texier. Several Sponsor-A-Scholar graduates who have now completed their first year of college or have graduated from college also attended the ceremony, including Brian Helwig, who recently graduated from Hudson Valley Community College and has been accepted to RPI in the fall, Mariah Northrop who completed her first year at Adirondack Community College, and Jade Charland who just completed her first year at SUNY Cortland. Brian and Mariah spoke to the current class and provided their words of wisdom and insights into the college experi-ence. The program is designed to provide the extra supports necessary for students to successfully complete high school and pursue post-secondary education. The program is coordinated by Ballston Spa High School guid-ance counselors Cathy Roy and Kevin Flores with mentors provided by the I am I can organization. Support for the program is provided by area corporations including Stewart’s Shops, Technical Building Services, The Ballston Spa Rotary, BSTA, The National Guard, Skidmore College, Gerome Technologies, Saratoga’s Community FCU, Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, Inc. and individual donors. Contributions to provide resources for the next class of students can be sent to The Ballston Spa Partnership for Innovation in Education Fund, Office of District Advancement, BSCSD, 70 Malta Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020. Additional information is available on the guidance webpage via the Ballston Spa High School website or by contacting the Guidance Office at 884-7150 x2362.
43RD ANNUAL ROUND LAKE ANTIQUES FESTIVALROUND LAKE – The 43rd annual Round Lake Antiques Festival to bene-fit the Round Lake Library will be held Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th. The Festival is open, rain or shine, both days from 9am to 5pm. The event is held on the greens of the historic Village of Round Lake. This year as many as 120 vendors selling antiques of all kinds are expected to bring their items to Round Lake. Food vendors will be serving all day to add to the festival atmosphere. The festival, sponsored by the Woman’s Round Lake Improvement Society each year, raises money to benefit the Round Lake Library, which has been serving the Malta area since 1897. This year’s festival promoter is Michael Green who has been managing the Fairground Shows at the Washington County Fairgrounds for many years. The Village of Round Lake and the festival are easily reached by taking Exit 11 of the Adirondack Northway and going east about ¼ mile.

THE JOYFUL NOISE, “WE ARE ONE”
CAPITAL DISTRICT – The Joyful Noise was a con-temporary Christian music ministry well known in the Capital District region and beyond, during the years of 1969-1993. The Joyful Noise was a large group of young people, led spiritu-ally and musically by Mr. Bill Womer. The Joyful Noise was the core of what would later evolve into “Christian Mu-sic Ministries”. The positive side of social media, as well as the unfortunate passing of key members, has stirred interest in a reunion of The Joyful Noise, with the rec-ognition, that still, “We are One”. A reunion is planned for October 10, 2015 focused on reuniting and catching up. The reunion will culmi-nate with a barbeque dinner and an evening Praise and Worship service at Bethle-hem Lutheran Church. Many of the songs spanning three decades when young lives were forever impacted by this experience will be sung together again. We will also be including all the parents and family members in the Saturday night service who supported each of us during our “JN” years. During these early planning stages we are interested in help locating former members, and iden-tifying folks to assist on vari-ous committees that have been formed. Please visit the Facebook page for Chris-tian Music Ministries if you are a former member and want to connect, or contact us at [email protected]
VOLUNTEERS HELP YOU STAY IN YOUR HOMESO. SARATOGA COUNTY – Is it getting more diffi cult to man-age living in your home? You might appreciate a volunteer to give you support like Bessie has been receiving from Care Links Program volunteers. June helps Bessie by shopping for her groceries because she can’t get out to buy for herself anymore. Walking is too diffi cult. If you could use some as-sistance, Care Links of Southern Saratoga County off ers free services to 60+ seniors. Friendly visiting, respite, “handy help-ing”, housekeeping, are ways you can benefi t from services. Call 399-3262 to fi nd out how a dependable caring person can make your life easier.
HELP FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN WHO STUTTERCAPITAL DISTRICT - Stuttering is a frustrating and embarrassing problem for millions of peo-ple, but it can be especially tough on elementary school-age children. Help is available for parents, teachers, and speech-language pathologists at most public libraries in the form of a DVD designed to help school-age children who stutter. Some libraries have an older video version. The DVD features students from fi rst through sixth grade, some of who talk about their experiences with stuttering. They talk openly about the teasing they face from class-mates and how their stuttering sometimes makes them feel about themselves. The 38-minute DVD, entitled Therapy in Action: The School-age Child Who Stutters, produced by the 67-year-old nonprofi t Stuttering Foundation is available free of charge to public libraries nationwide. Other libraries that will shelve it can contact the Foundation at 1-800-992-9392, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.stutteringhelp.org or www.tartarmudez.org.

As a mentor you would spend time with and get to know your student on a one-to-one basis, while developing a relationship that provides support and guidance in achieving their post-grad-uation goals. The organization is currently looking for mentors in the Clifton Park to Glens Falls areas. Immediate needs are to support girls in Shenendehowa, South Glens Fall, Glens Falls and Ballston Spa school districts. It looks like summer has arrived. What a joy this warm stretch has been. Our gardens have been playing catch up after the cool early spring. My wife and I managed to finally get the veggies all planted the weekend after Memorial Day. Along with hot summer weather come the fungal diseases. Most of us are familiar with powdery mildew and black spot. Anyone who’s grown phlox, melons, squash or beans has probably seen powdery mildew. A plant under attack from this common fungal disease will exhibit misshapen leaves that seem to be coated with white powder. Black spot, another fungal disease, causes black spots (logically enough) to appear on the leaves followed by a gradual yellowing of the leaf. Black spot is very common on roses. These diseases start out as tiny spores present in the soil or on the stem of the dormant plant. When conditions become right, they incubate and develop into a growing organism. Once these fungal diseases take hold, you’ll have no option but to spray with a fungicide or, in extreme cases, remove the infected plant. Fortunately, there are preventive measures that you can take to keep fungal diseases from taking hold in your garden. We can get a clue how to avoid fungal diseases by thinking about one that we humans are susceptible to: Athlete’s Foot. We know that if we constantly wear damp, dirty sneakers, we increase the chances that we’ll get a case of Athlete’s Foot. We avoid Athlete’s Foot by drying our shoes between use, and we always (at least I hope you do) put on clean socks before we put our sneakers on. The tactics we use to prevent the spores of Athlete’s Foot from taking hold are quite similar to how we can prevent powdery mildew and other fungal diseases from getting a “toe hold’ in our flower and vegetable gardens. Good garden hygiene. First, avoid working in your gardens when the plants are wet. When you handle wet plants, you may be spreading the spores of fungal diseases from plant to plant increasing the chances that they will find a plant or location where conditions are favorable. Wait until the plants have dried completely before you handle them. If you are pruning plants that are susceptible to these diseases (like roses), clean the blades of your pruners with chlorine bleach as you move from plant to plant. This will help to prevent the spread of diseases. Keep your gardens well weeded. Weeds may play host to a disease that won’t affect them but your garden plants may not be so lucky. Weeds are also a good place for insect pest to hide out. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, try not to wet the leaves of your plants when watering. DON”T SPRAY THEM WITH WATER! This spring, our garden has already been subjected to too much damp weather. When you wet the leaves, you’re creating the soggy condition that fungal diseases love (and your plants hate). Give them a break and buy a watering wand so you can soak the soil while wetting the leaves as little as possible. To me, spraying leaves and flowers is like intentionally putting on damp, dirty socks. I know you’ve all seen those commercials on TV showing folks, who supposedly know better, misting down the flowers. It IS picturesque but it’s one of the worst things you can do to your garden plants. Some houseplants benefit from misting in the dry winter home but it is a practice that is best avoided in the outdoor garden. In addition to promoting fungal diseases, spraying your plants with water washes away the pollen. Once this happens, the plant has no use for the flower and aborts it. What this means to you is that, if you make a practice of spraying your plants with water, the flowers won’t last very long and, in the case of vegetables, you won’t get much fruit. Did you really do all that work planting just to sabotage your own effort by spray watering. Those who read me regularly know that I feel strongly about this, so remember: when it gets hot, you may need to go soak your head but your plants need to enjoy the dry heat as much as you’ll let them. Besides, plants absorb water through their roots, not the leaves and flowers. Think about it; if you were out in the desert about to die from thirst and I came along with a nice cold glass of water. What would you want me to do with it? Give it to you to drink or throw it in your face. Stop being mean to your gardens and don’t spray your plants with water. Give them a nice cool drink instead. Thanks for the read.

TIPS TO GET FASTER, STRONGER AND MORE FLEXIBLE
(StatePoint) If you work out a couple times a week, you are on the right path to good health. But experts say this can and should be just the beginning of your fitness journey.
“Our bodies are designed to be fast, powerful and agile,” says Paul “Coach” Wade, fitness expert and author of the new book “Explosive Calisthenics.” “However, modern Americans have become the slowest, least agile members of our species in all history.”
Wade says a vanishing percent of people even attempt to un-lock their body’s full athletic potential. To help, he is offering tips to take your overall fitness to the next level.
Ditch the Excuses
Getting in great shape requires consistency, and it’s all too easy to make excuses for missing a workout. Whether you’re always on the road or can’t afford to renew your gym mem-bership, Wade says such excuses don’t hold water.
“While modern training methods involve equipment like bar-bells, balls, boxes and gymnastics gear, the superior way of building maximum speed, power and ability is the old-school method of using just your body’s own weight, nothing else,” he says.
Whether you’re crunched for time or crunched for space, don’t let these circumstances prevent you from getting a great workout. Pushups, squats, leg raises, bridges and jumps are just a few fundamental exercises that can be performed in a small space without any gear.
Ditch the Fear
Traditional calisthenic moves used by gymnasts, martial art-ists, athletes and tumblers -- such as flips and kip-ups -- may seem intimidating. But Wade says that most people have the inherent ability to master such moves by working on each one in progressions.
“Movements like these have been handed down from gen-eration to generation,” he says. “They should not be the exclu-sive domain of gymnasts.
Stay Focused
Don’t try to take shortcuts. Successful athletes don’t leap ahead and tackle moves they aren’t ready for -- they find ways to make the stuff they can already do work even better for them.
For more tips and information, visit www.dragondoor.com.
When it comes to physical fitness, don’t settle for halfway de-cent. No matter what your level of fitness is today, take a cue from the fitness experts to use more of your full potential.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM WATERBORNE ILLNESSES THIS SUMMER
(NAPS)—Don’t let invisible threats lurking in pools, water parks and lakes ruin your summer. Recreational water illness-es (RWIs), such as Cryptosporidium (Crypto) and Giardia, are on the rise and most prevalent in the United States during the prime swimming months, typically May through October.
Crypto and Giardia are two frequently occurring parasitic in-fections with the most common symptom being persistent diarrhea. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are approximately 750,000 cases of Crypto estimated each year in the U.S., a 300 percent in-crease in incidence over the past decade. The CDC also esti-mated 1.2 million cases of Giardia annually in the U.S.
The Problem
Unfortunately, swimming in properly chlorinated pools does not necessarily eliminate the risk of parasitic infections. An infected person can spread RWIs at alarming rates through swimming water, leaving fellow swimmers sick with infec-tious diarrhea for weeks and sometimes even developing lasting gastrointestinal damage. According to new research conducted by Nielsen, there’s confusion and misinformation about Giardia and Crypto among parents and caregivers. Four in 10 think hand sanitizers can kill the parasites, which is not true. More than a third don’t know how their kid(s) can catch the parasite. And most caregivers (74 percent) are un-clear on how long they need to keep their sick children out of the water. Fewer than a third know that the CDC/AAP swim-ming guidelines indicate that children infected with Crypto need to be out of the water for two weeks after symptoms have resolved.
What You Can Do
• Showerbothbeforeenteringandafter leavingapublicswimming pool.
• Avoidswallowingpoolwaterwhileswimming.
• Washyourhands thoroughlywith soapandwater afterusing the toilet or changing diapers.
• See a doctor promptly if youdevelop symptoms.Over-the-counter medications offer limited support if you’re in-fected with these parasites.
• Stayoutofthepooluntilatleasttwoweeksafterthediar-rhea subsides.
“Most people don’t appreciate how common recreational water-borne parasitic infections such as Giardia and Crypto-sporidium can be, particularly in the summer months,” said Steven J. Czinn, M.D., professor and chairman of the Depart-ment of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Chief of Pediatrics at the University of Mary-land Medical Center. “If you think your child may be infected, don’t let him or her suffer in silence. Contact your pediatri-cian. There are safe and effective FDA-approved treatments for the diarrhea caused by these parasites.”
What Doctors Can Do
The good news is doctors can prescribe an FDA-approved treatment—for adults and for children—for the diarrhea caused by Crypto and Giardia.
Expert Advice
“Without treatment, the symptoms of Crypto and Giardia in-fections last two to three weeks, but proper treatment can re-duce the duration of diarrhea,” said Deborah Goldman, M.D., assistant professor of pediatrics at SUNY Upstate Medical University and division director of pediatric gastroenterology at the Golisano Children’s Hospital. “Those who suspect that they’ve been infected should contact their medical care pro-vider for treatment. Patients as well as medical care providers have a responsibility to treat parasitic infections properly to avoid the spread of the illnesses and potential outbreaks.”
She recommends doctors rely on their clinical judgment when treating infectious diarrhea that they suspect may be caused by Crypto or Giardia. Current tests for the condition can have false negatives and can take several days to process.

HOW TO HANDLE WEED GROWTHHomeowners who take pride in their lawns and gardens know just how problematic weeds can be. Weeds can make otherwise well-manicured and thriving lawns and gardens appear unhealthy and ill-kempt. But homeowners don’t have to sit back and accept weeds as an inevitable byproduct of warm weather. The following are a handful of ways home-owners can handle weed growth so all their hard work is not masked by unwelcome weeds.
• Pull weeds after watering. It might seem odd to waterweeds, but watering weeds can actually make it easier to pull them out so they never return. When you pull weeds from soggy soil, you can more easily pull weeds’ entire root sys-tem from the ground. That means you aren’t just pulling the stems and leaves, but the entire weed from the ground.
•Laymulch.Mulchcanbenefitagardeninmanyways,not
the least of which is help-ing to prevent the growth of weeds. Mulch prevents sunlight from reaching weed seeds, helping to prevent the growth of weeds before they even appear to cause you headaches. In addition, mulch helps soil retain mois-
ture, which benefi ts plants as summer temperatures rise.
• Lay landscape fabric.Homeownerswhowant todomorethan mulch can lay landscape fabric in their gardens as well. Landscape fabric will work in much the same way as mulch,
b l o c k i n g s u n l i g h t from reach-ing weed seeds and t h e r e f o r e preventing the weed seeds from g e r m i n a t -ing. When laying land-scape fabric,
simply cut holes in the fabric where the plants will be, lay the fabric down and then cover the fabric with mulch.
•Plantstrategically.Howyouplantalsocanhelpdefeatweedsbefore they ever appear. Speak with your landscaper or a lo-cal lawn and garden professional before planting, asking if it’s possible to plant particular plants close together to pre-vent weed growth. Plants that are planted in close proxim-
ity to one another will block sunlight from reaching the soil, which will make it more diffi cult for weed seeds to germinate.
Weeds are a formidable and unwelcome foe to homeowners who take pride in their lawns and gardens. But there are sev-eral ways to combat existing weed infestations and prevent their return in the future.

GET THE SCOOP ON POOL SANITIZERSMany homeowners enjoy the convenience and recreational value of having a pool in their backyards. Pools can be a great spot to gather on warm days, often serving as the center-piece of summer recreation.
Pools require substantial upkeep to function properly and be safe for swimming. The right combination of factors are needed to maintain a proper water balance to prevent skin and eye irritation as well as to ensure the water is clean. Sani-tizers play a significant role in ensuring that safety.
Various sanitizers are on the market, although people are most familiar with chlorine-based sanitizers. The goal of a
sanitizer is to prevent the growth of bacteria and algae in pool water. Sanitizers also will inhibit the growth of viruses and other organic contaminants.
First-time homeowners who have never had a pool may find it challenging to choose a sanitizer that will work for them. Each sanitizer has its share of pros and cons, but many home-owners hope to find one that is both cost-effective and con-venient. The following are some of the sanitizers to consider.
•Liquidchlorine:Sodiumhypochlorite, alsoknownasbleach,is a common pool sanitizer. Liquid chlorine does not have any additives and will not affect pool water in any other way except for providing sanitation. Liquid chlorine can be cum-bersome to store and splashing the product while adding
it to the water can damage clothing.
• Cal-hypo: Calcium hypo-chlorite is another sanitizing option for pools. It is usu-ally sold in granular form because pucks or sticks will break down too quickly in chlorine feeders. Cal-hypo is often an unstabilized form of chlorine, which means it does not have a stabilizing chemical mixed with it to prevent chlorine burn-off from the sun. Depending on your needs, unstabilized chlorine can be an asset or a detriment.
• Dichlor and trichlor: Di-chloro-s-triazinetrione and trichloro-s-triazinetrione are two different stabilized chlorine sources. They are mixed with a substance called cyanuric acid, which helps prevent the quick us-age of chlorine in outdoor pools. Sunlight can reduce the efficacy of chlorine, and this stabilizer will help buffer that effect. Since these chlo-

rine sources typically come in pucks or tablets, they can be placed in feeders and will deliver consistent chlorine without daily maintenance. Trichlor has one of the highest levels of available chlorine of all pool sanitizers. However, one disad-vantage is that if the stabilizer levels build up too much in the pool, you will require even more chlorine to combat this effect, sometimes creating a cycle of chlorine ineffectiveness.
•Salt:Salt-cellpoolsuseaprocessofelectrolysis toextractchlorine from the salt added to the specialized equipment,
thus sanitizing the pool automatically. Some people prefer salt be-cause it seems more natural and requires less maintenance.
• Bromine: Bromine issimilar to chlorine. While the byproducts of chlo-rine do not benefit pool water, bromine byprod-ucts can continue to san-itize the water, making it last longer than chlorine. Bromine can be more expensive than chlo-rine, which might deter homeowners looking for the most cost-effective pool sanitizer.
Pool water chemistry can be a complex process. But home-owners have many options at their disposal when it comes time to choose the right sanitizer.
Sanitizers keep pool water safe for all swimmers.

TOP 4 SIGNS YOU NEED TO CALL A PEST PROFESSIONAL
(NewsUSA) - When pests are discovered, it may be tempting for homeowners to employ DIY methods to first attempt to deal with pest infestations themselves.
However, depending on the type of pest and size of the in-festation, there are times when immediately calling in a pest professional is vital to protecting health and property -- and could end up saving money in the long-run.
According to the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), there are certain signs homeowners should look for that could indicate the presence of an infestation that should be dealt with promptly by a pest professional:
1. Droppings. Any droppings found in undisturbed areas of the home could indicate the presence of rodents. These droppings are a serious health risk and can spread diseases and contaminate food sources. People often mistakenly believe they only have one or two rodents present in their home; in reality, however, mice have high reproduction rates that can quickly escalate to large infestations.
2. Home Pest Sightings. If pests are spotted in the home, even if it's just a couple or they only appear sporadically, it could indicate the development of a more serious infesta-tion. In the warmer months, this is especially true for stinging insects. If hornets or wasps are showing up indoors on a reg-ular basis, there may be a nest somewhere inside or around the home. Removal of stinging insect nests is a dangerous job that should always be left to the professionals.
3. Mattress Markings. If small reddish brown spots are found on mattresses, upholstery or walls, it could indicate a bed bug infestation -- especially when paired with red, itchy welts, most notably on the legs and arms. These bugs are no-toriously difficult to get rid of, and a pest professional should be called as soon as possible to assess and treat the situation.
4. Mud Tubes. Some termites build distinctive mud tubes that are frequently found near a home's foundation. Ter-mites are known as "silent destroyers" because their constant gnawing can go unnoticed until significant structural dam-age to the home occurs. If mud tubes are discovered, home-owners should immediately call a pest professional before further structural damage occurs.
If any of these severe pest infestation signs is discovered, homeowners should contact a pest management profession-al immediately. For additional information and prevention tips, visit www.pestworld.org.

INEXPENSIVE WAYS TO BOOST A HOME’S CURB APPEAL
Curb appeal can go a long way toward making a home more attractive to its inhabitants as well as prospective buyers once the house is put on the market. Improving curb appeal is a goal for many homeowners, and while many projects aimed at making homes more aesthetically appealing can be
costly, there are ways for cost-conscious homeowners to im-prove their properties without breaking the bank.
• Put your green thumb to use. A well-maintained land-scape can dramatically improve a home’s curb appeal. Pay attention to the plants, shrubs and trees throughout your property, watering them during periods of little rainfall and trimming them when necessary so your lawn does not look like an overgrown, neglected suburban jungle. Professional landscaping services can help you maintain your property, but even if your budget does not allow for such an expense, you can still make sure your landscape adds to your home’s appeal by keeping a watchful eye on the property and ad-dressing any issues that arise. Maintain your lawn through the colder months of the year as well, making sure no one walks on the grass when frost has settled, as doing so can produce dead spots throughout the lawn.

• Redo your front door. While their eyes may initially be drawn to a well-manicured lawn, prospective buyers will eventually find their way to the front door. If your door is especially old, consider replacing it. If your budget does not allow for such an expense, you can still give your home’s front entrance an entirely new look by installing some inexpensive molding around the door before giving the door a fresh coat of paint. Molding around the front door can make an entrance more impressive, while a new coat of paint can make a home feel warmer and more vibrant.
• Plant flowers. Another inexpensive way to make a home more appealing is to plant some colorful flowers around the property. Line walkways with flowers native to your re-gion, as such plants will last longer than exotic alternatives that may not be capable of adapting to the local climate. In addition to lining walkways, hang window boxes filled with colorful flowers or plants outside naked windows. Doing so can make windows seem larger and add some color to your home’s exterior.
Another creative way to make use of colorful flowers is to place a few planters at the foot of your driveway and paint-ing the numbers of your address on the planters. This can be both effortless and inexpensive, but it can instantly make a home more inviting to prospective buyers.
• Spotlight certain parts of your property. Many homeowners focus on improving the curb appeal of their property during the daytime hours, but you can take steps to make a home more appealing at night as well. Solar spotlights placed around trees and other attractive features in your yard can shed light on those areas of your property you’re most proud of, even after the sun has gone down. Solar spotlights won’t add to your energy bill, as they are powered by the sun, and they can make certain accents on your property stand out at night.
Improving curb appeal may sound like a significant under-taking, but there are many ways budget-conscious home-owners can make their home’s exterior more appealing with-out going broke.
Maintaining plant life on a property won’t cost homeowners a lot of money, but such an effort can add substantial curb appeal to a home.

ADD COLOR TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR HOME'S INTERIORS(StatePoint) In a world where home décor options can often seem bland, you may be wonder-ing how to colorfully customize interior spaces to fit your lifestyle and speak to your personal-ity. Luckily, you’re not alone.
A good 25 to 30 percent of polled online shoppers are interested in customizing products, ac-cording to a consumer study by Bain & Company. This demand is driving innovation across in-dustries, including home interior design, which is adding new color palates to their offerings.
So for those seeking to buck the cookie cutter trends seen in neighbors’ homes, try creating a DIY look in yours with the addition of bright, bold colors.
Here are a few design tips to add personality and flair to your home:
Seek Inspiration
Many design resources are right at your fingertips. Visual social media applications, such as Pinterest and Instagram, can help you envision how different elements, colors and furnishings may look in your own spaces -- serving as inspiration for décor projects and upgrades.
Also, seek out new online tools that can help you execute your plan. For example a free Web-based application, Splash by Amerock, offers a new interactive design and shopping experi-ence by allowing users to truly customize hardware for cabinets and furniture. The interactive site and first-of-its-kind product line allows you to test various cool colors and shapes of cabi-netry hardware and view the different looks on different style and color cabinets.
From kitchens and bathrooms to bedrooms and living areas, you can make your rooms pop with bold colors, truly customizing a room without much effort. The no risk decorating system and online ordering process makes it easy to wield your decorating prowess. To view how fresh, fun colors may look in your home, visit www.SplashbyAmerock.com
Bursts of Color
A great new trend for a bold, bright look is the addition of bursts of color. You can eliminate the need for a complete overhaul while making a statement. For example, paint just one ac-cent wall in your kitchen, or add a large colorful pillow or throw to your living room set.
Another great way to achieve color is to replace the standard hardware on your cabinets and furniture with custom options. Hardware is easy to swap out and can give your pieces a fun, fresh makeover at a much lower cost and hassle than a replacement.
This update is so easy to make you can change hard-ware as often as the sea-sons, if you are so inclined. And for kids’ bedrooms, it’s an especially easy way to transform the look of the room as kids grow and their tastes change. To learn more about hardware, visit www.Amerock.com, and also visit Splash by Amerock to check out their 20 unique color op-tions ranging from choices like Firecracker, Dragonfruit and Surfside, to name a few.
When it comes to your home, don’t settle for plain and forgettable. Make it your own with colorful touches.

Boone Litter
Smith Girls
These babies found themselves on death row
in a high kill shelter in Tennessee. We just could
not let that happen so we had them pulled in the nick of time by our southern rescue angels. Now they are headed
North to find their forever homes. They have been vet checked, vaccinated and wormed. For more
information please call the shelter at 518-654-6220 or
come by. We are open 7 days a week.
These beautiful girls were an oops litter and the
mother’s owner wanted them gone. So we stepped
in and took them before he could dump them at the
local kill shelter. Now they have been vet check, vaccinated and
wormed and are ready to find their forever homes.

NINE TIPS TO HELP YOU MAKE A SMOOTH MOVE(NAPS)—Millions of Americans move to a new home every year. The next time you’re among them, you may be able to save time, trouble and money if you heed a few hints on driving a moving truck. These come from the experts at Penske Truck Rental:
1. Give yourself plenty of time. Chances are, the trip will take longer than the GPS predicts. Be aware of when rush hour is likely to be in communities you’ll drive through.
2. Sit awhile before you drive. Don’t take off until you’ve familiarized yourself with all the truck’s switches and gauges. Make sure the mirrors are properly adjusted.
3. Watch out for blind spots. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration points out that trucks have oversized blind spots known as the “No-Zone.” Bear these in mind, especially when changing lanes or coming to a stop.
4. The things you carry. Truck rental agreements generally include language from the U.S. Department of Transportation prohibiting the “carrying or hauling of explosives and other dangerous articles.” That means don’t pack such flammable items as paint, chemicals, clean-ing materials, solvents, propane, gasoline and so on. Your rental agent can help you tell whether something you want to bring along is allowed.
5. Be smart about size. “Trucks are taller, wider and may weigh up to 10 times more than the average car,” explained Don Mikes, senior vice president–rental, Penske Truck Leasing. They also take longer to stop. Ease off of the accelerator early when approaching a stop. This also helps keep your cargo from shifting.
6. Protect your property. “Most insurance and credit card companies won’t cover truck rent-als under existing policies,” Mikes added. If your insurance company is among them, consider signing up for additional coverage options to protect yourself and your belongings. You may feel more confident knowing that his company offers free 24/7 emergency roadside assis-tance.
7. Look for a sign. Pay attention to road signs pertaining to trucks such as weigh station stops, truck or lane restriction signs and overhead clearance postings.
8. Park smart. Set the emergency brake every time.
9. Learn more. You can find further useful moving facts and tips at www.PenskeTruckRental.com.

LURING GRADS WITH TECHNOLOGY, SAFETY AND SAVINGS (NAPS)—The period just after graduation can be an exciting time for recent grads: first job, first apartment off campus and, for many, their first new car—often with an assist from Mom and Dad.
To appeal to these eager drivers and their parents, car companies are finding they have to of-fer vehicles that integrate timely technology to impress the graduates, safety to impress Mom and Dad, and savings to impress them both.
For example, the 2015 Chrysler 200’s high-tech amenities include a full-color driver informa-tion display cluster that allows drivers to receive information and vehicle feedback in the for-mat they prefer—all while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
The information that can be displayed includes speed, turn-by-turn navigation, real-time fuel economy, safety warnings, and safety and security functions such as the ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist feature, audio information and trip details.
A power supply and media center located in the center console under the sliding cup holders provides maximum user convenience, including an available 115-volt outlet.

When it comes to safety and security, the car integrates 60 safety features, including one called SafeHold, which secures the vehicle if the driver opens the door and unlatches the seat belt while forward or reverse gears are still engaged.
It also has eight standard air bags, all-speed traction control, brake assist, brake/throttle over-ride, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, energy-absorbing steering column, Enhanced Accident Response System (EARS), Keyless En-ter ’n Go, LATCH child seat anchors, brake/park interlock, a body constructed of 60 percent high-strength steel and more.
It even has a feature called Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus. A Chrysler Group first, this provides autonomous braking that can slow the vehicle or, at low speeds, bring it to a stop when a frontal collision appears imminent.
Savings
Fuel economy is also key with the Chrysler 200. It offers a Segment-first standard nine-speed automatic transmission, innovative all-wheel-drive system and choice of two engine options.
It is the first midsize sedan to feature an all-wheel-drive system with complete rear-axle dis-connect, which reduces energy loss to improve fuel efficiency.

FINDING THE RIGHT FAMILY CAR
Parents have a host of op-tions at their disposal when the time comes to buy new cars for their families. While dad might have long dreamed of driving the fast-est sports car on the mar-ket, such a vehicle does not make much practical sense when car trips figure to be made with kids in tow.
Finding the right car for a family depends on a host of factors, as what makes a good vehicle for one family will not always make a great choice for another family right down the street. When choosing a car for their fami-lies, parents can consider the following factors to ensure they choose the vehicles that best suit the needs of their broods.
Cost
While cost should not be the only consideration when choosing a family vehicle, parents must determine their budget before begin-ning their search for a new ride. Aside from a home, cars are the most expensive purchase many people will ever make, which only high-lights the importance par-ents must place on finding
the right vehicles for their families. Luxury cars, SUVs and sports cars tend to be the most expensive vehicles on the market, and young parents just starting out or parents of school-aged kids with college educations to consider might find that less expensive vehicles make the most practical sense for their families. Parents also must determine if they are financ-ing or leasing their vehicles or buying them outright. Financing and leasing often requires full insurance cov-erage, which can be pricey, while buying outright af-fords vehicle owners to choose the level of coverage they are most comfortable with. Determine insurance
costs on a given model be-fore driving off the lot with the pedal to the metal.
Family size
The size and potential size of the family also must be considered before buying a new car. Kids grow up and get bigger, and parents who want to have more children down the road should con-sider just how big they want their family to be before buying a new car. Look for a car that not only suits your family now, but one that will cater to your family’s needs down the road as well. Over-looking this important fac-tor now may force you to re-place the car you ultimately buy sooner than you had
hoped.
Safety
Safety is the top priority for many parents as they pur-chase new cars for their families. Look for a car with a high safety rating and a proven track record of en-suring passengers survive accidents. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (www.iihs.org) as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (www.nhtsa.gov) test and rate new vehicles for safety, and parents should look up the results of these tests and rat-ings on any vehicle they are considering purchasing for their families.
Use
Family cars are rarely lim-ited to getting mom or dad to and from work and for trips to the grocery store. Today’s kids are more ac-tive than ever before, and chances are their schedules are as packed as their par-ents’. Consider the many chauffeuring trips you will have to make in the years to come, and choose a car that is equipped to handle those trips. Parents who double as soccer coaches may ben-efit from buying minivans that can easily store all that sports equipment, while those whose children par-ticipate in activities that take them far and wide may want a car that’s especially fuel ef-ficient.
Comfort
Luxury vehicles may provide the most comfortable ride, but parents who are not yet ready to go that route need not sacrifice comfort in fa-vor of practicality. Families spend lots of time in their vehicles, and summer vaca-tions or winter holiday road trips are that much more enjoyable when everyone is riding in comfort. While comfort might not be the foremost priority for parents, it is something to consider when buying new family ve-hicles.

AMERICANS WILLING TO DRIVE
FARTHEST FOR LOVE AND FAMILY
(StatePoint) Summer travel season is upon us and a new survey reveals just where all those vehicles on the high-way may be headed. Ameri-cans indicated they are will-ing to drive the farthest for love and family, with fewer willing to drive long distanc-es for sporting and enter-tainment events.
In particular, 42 percent sur-veyed indicated they would
drive the farthest to see a love interest over any other activity and 25 percent in-dicated they would do so to attend a wedding, according to the new “How Far Would You Drive?” survey from En-terprise Rent-A-Car.
Additionally, 20 percent said they are willing to drive five or more hours to see their child’s sporting event, while only nine percent are willing to drive that same distance to see their favorite profes-sional football team play.
More than one-third also in-dicated they would drive five or more hours to attend a family reunion and a quarter said they would even do so to meet their in-laws.
“We hear anecdotal stories from our customers all the time about what inspires them to embark on road trips, and it’s a thrill to see how we play a role in our customers’ lives,” said Lee Broughton, vice president,
Enterprise Rent-A-Car Brand Marketing. “While love and family may spark individu-als to drive the farthest, in-terests such as sports, music and food still earn significant car time.”
