Hello friends, I am Eng Hock. Making decisions on your own is hard. When other
people get involved and try to pressure you, it can be even harder. When people of your own
age try to influence how you act, it is called peer pressure. It can be hard to walk away from
peer pressure but do not worry, you can do it. I would like to relate to you how I dealt with
this problem.
Firstly, pay attention to your own feeling and beliefs can help you do the right thing.
Self confidence can help you to stand firm, walk away and resist doing something which you
know you should not be doing.
Have at least one other peer to join you so that it is much easier to resist. It is great to
have friends who share the same values with you and will support you.
If you are faced with peer pressure while you are alone, here are some tips for you.
Avoid peers who are always trying to get you to do bad things. If you do not go near the group
at all, they cannot try to pressure you. However, if you continue to face this pressure and you
are finding it difficult to handle, talk to someone you trust. Talking to a parent, teacher or
counselor can make you feel better and prepare you the next time you face peer pressure
again. So, friends, do not worry. There is always someone out there to will help you out.
