Glue up a block to fit you design
– unless you keep 12/4 material
around!
I like to cleanup my blank, but it’s not required – it’s going to be trimmed away
anyway.
This particular block is 3 x 6 x 11, the inner core is
Walnut and the outer layers are Lace Wood

Attach your template with spray adhesive
and cut to the outer lines of your template,
leaving enough room to sand to the line.
The smallest radius of your curves will
determine what size of bandsaw blade you
need to use!
If you fail to follow your lines
just consider it a design
change and keep going ☺
This design is similar to a picture I found on
the internet from: Lois Keener Ventura

It is easier to sand all surfaces now
before making any further cuts. The
back will then be the same as the
main box.
Note: I usually make my
boxes around 3” thick so
they will fit my spindle
sander.

Now – Cut the back
off. I usually make
the back panel
approximately
3/16”– 1/4” Thick. It
can be whatever
you want it to be.

Pick an
entrance point
and cut out
your drawers –
in one piece.
On this particular box
the case will be left
open at this point.
This is the entrance point I
picked for the 2 lower
drawers. It will be glued
closed in the next step.
Back – still not attached

Here I’m gluing the entrance
cut back together. Some times
it’s a challenge to find a
clamping position
While that glue is drying,
sand the outside of the
drawers. Keep in mind the more you sand the looser the
drawer will fit.

Cut off a thin back and
front from the drawer
pieces you just cut out
before you proceed. You
may want to mark their
orientation to help with re-
assembly.

Layout the portion of the
drawer to be cut away.
This will be the inside of
your drawer when you’re
finished.
Go ahead and cut away
the waste drawer
material.

Sand the inside of your drawers
while you still have easy access.
Glue the front and rear drawer
pieces back on, finish sand
when dry.

Choose the material for
your drawer pulls (if required) Carefully cut them
out they’re very small
Sand the pulls and glue
to the fronts of your
drawers.
I usually line the inside of
the drawers with felt or
flocking.
