Aid Year Enhancements Overview

• Year Round Pell Support—The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008

provided authorization forwarding up to two Federal Pell Grants within an academic year.

—Financial Aid for a summer term may now belong to two different aid years:

• the current aid year; and • either the immediately preceding or following aid year• either the immediately preceding or following aid year.

• Aid Year Based Accounting—Aid year-based accounting provides a solution to a

specific accounting need for institutions maintaining separate accounts for each award year for each Financial Aid program.

• institutions can optionally create aid year-based detail codes and feed aid to specific accounts in the Banner Finance System or to another Finance system.

Trans Num 3 (the payment reversal) applies to Trans Num 2 because the Aid Year of Trans Num 2 matches the Aid Year of Trans Num 3.

TGRAPPL - Title IV Processing

• How is Aid Year of Title IV credit determined?— First uses TBRACCD_AIDY_CODE, if exists (passed in by RPEDISB)

— Else, uses pre-existing logic:

• STVTERM_Term_Code of TIV credit is queried to find aid year (STVTERM_FA_Processing_Year).

How is immediately preceding aid year determined?

• Financial Aid is installed— look at ROBINST_AIDY_END_YEAR for the credit aid year code and

minus 1 to get the previous year.

Example: If Aid Year code of TIV credit is 1011:

— Go to ROBINST and find aid year code 1011.

• Aid Year code 1011 has ROBINST_AIDY_END_YEAR = 2011

• Subtract 1 from 2011 to get 2010.

— Go to ROBINST and find ROBINST_AIDY_END_YEAR = 2010.

• ROBINST_AIDY_END_YEAR 2010 has aid year code 0910

• Financial Aid is not installedExample 1 (Year is not a century)— If the current aid year code is 1011

• Extract the first 2 characters, i.e., 10. 10 - 1 = 09 • Extract the next 2 characters, i.e., 11. 11 - 1 = 10. • The immediately preceding aid year code is 0910.

Example 2 (Year is a century)— If the current aid year code is 9900

• Extract the first 2 characters i e 99 99 1 = 98• Extract the first 2 characters, i.e., 99. 99 - 1 = 98• Extract the next 2 characters, i.e., 00.

—Since 00 is a century, the next 2 characters are 99• The preceding aid year would be 9899.

• Note: In AR 82, this logic was changed to use the new TTVAIDY form. Immediately preceding aid year code is retrieved using the Start Date associated with the current aid year code. Follows logic similar to that used when Financial Aid is installed.
