Bareboat Chartering from Gig Harbor Students who achieve the Bareboat Cruising certification level [literally] have a world of sailing opportunities opened to them. Bareboat certification enables a sailor to charter boats in places such as the British Virgin Islands, San Juan Islands, the Mediterranean, and beyond.... A Bareboat Skipper must expand skills and knowledge well beyond sailing techniques with the added responsibilities of acting as cook, engineer, and navigator. Skippers must prepare for multi-day trips on unfamiliar waters and new anchorages, all while troubleshooting potential problems along the way and keeping the crew calm and safe. Prerequisite: ASA103 certification or equivalent experience. ASA105 Navigation is recommended. Topics Include: Advanced sailing theory Advanced vessel maneuvering under sail and power Anchoring, rafting and mooring techniques Towing Navigation Entering new ports Provisioning for extended cruises Boat systems: electrical, propane, & plumbing Diesel engine use and troubleshooting Emergency readiness The course exceeds all ASA requirements for the Bareboat Cruising (ASA 104) certification, which is achieved upon successful completion of the written exam. All of our Bareboat instructors are licensed USCG Captains, certified by the American Sailing Association (ASA), and have extraordinary experience in cruising and bareboat chartering. The Bareboat class format is a mini-charter. You depart on Friday afternoon and spend two nights sailing around Puget Sound, practicing everything you need to learn in a practical sense.
