YEAR 11 SEMESTER TWO REPORT
Congratulations to Year 11, who last week received their final Preliminary report on Friday 20th October.
Year 11 received their school report as part of a special function, where parents, teachers
and students shared breakfast and heard about their progress so far and HSC requirements.
This reporting process allows us to tailor a non-judgemental learning plan specific to the individual student
while assisting them in setting realistic goals in a caring and supportive environment.
The Final Reports for the 118 Year 11 students, with a mean Grade Point Average (GPA) of
3.3 were very pleasing with a number of individual highlights.
15 students received a GOLD Principal’s Award’s by achieving a GPA of 4.1 or above.
26 students received a SILVER Principal’s Award’s by achieving a GPA of 3.6 or above.
48 students received a REC (Respect, Effort, Challenge) award by having 100% of their profile as Always or
Usually participating in their learning.
92 students achieved at least one Outstanding or 1 High, that’s an incredible 78% scoring highly for at least
one subject, indicating the ability this cohort possesses.
22 Limited Grades only, out of 636 individual reports (3.5%), this is a very pleasing result, once again
supporting the fact that almost all students are working well.

CONGRATULATIONS
Have a great week everyone…..Ian Bowsher
It has been an action packed week for year 9 who ventured to year 9 camp. Spanning three
glorious days, year 9 confronted their fear of heights and challenged themselves to step outside
their comfort zones.
One of the many highlights of the trip was commando night where Mr Hartge ruthlessly super
soaked students trying to free hostages. Tree tops orienteering where students struggled through a
challenging obstacle course 10 metres above the ground, and finally, the giant swing that
catapulted students into the air.
The most memorable aspect of the camp was time spent with one another, whether it was having
face masks, pretending to be caterpillars in sleeping bags or making a cheese toasty, year 9
showed each other how much they appreciate each other's company.
It is this awesome attitude that makes year 9 such a great year group!
Special thanks go to the teachers who dedicated their time: Caryn Harrington, Jacob Corrigan, Rick
Hartge, Max Warren.
Regards, Rachael Wilson English Teacher/ Year 9 Advisor Barrenjoey High School
YEAR 9 CAMP
On the 18th and 19th October, Year 4 from Avalon Public School came to Barrenjoey to experience
a day at High School.
The weather was perfect and the kids could not keep the smile off their faces! They participated in
Science, Food Tech, Engineering and French.
There was lots of laughter and even some screams from the Science Lab! The Kids absolutely
loved Science counting down to a little explosion. They also made rockets in Engineering then
went outside to watch them take off!
They also became Master Chefs in the kitchens and made yummy thumb print freckle cookies.
Thank you to all the Staff who assisted and to the Students who mentored on the day and made
the experience a memorable one for all of Year 4 from Avalon Public School.

COMMUNICATION WITH TEACHERS
We have recently disabled the Create Message button in the Parent Portal for parents to contact
teachers.
The reason is that this message does not go directly to the teacher’s email; instead it sits in an
area of the portal that is rarely visited by the teachers.
We believe that it is more expedient for parents to contact teachers through the
[email protected] email – which is attended every day – and that way we can
ensure that the teacher will receive the email in their normal email account.
Thank you for your understanding.

WEEK 5 (A) TERM 4
Dear ........,
We need your help now!! I know we all keep meaning to do it but now is the time to send in your
recipe and be part of our community cookbook. We have the team poised for action but we would
love more recipes so we can begin.
Thank you to those who have already sent in their recipe, here is the lovely story behind Lulu’s
family favourite soup.
“I first learnt to cook in 1968 - Mrs Jenkins' Home Science Class - Inaugural Year - Barrenjoey
High School.
I remember the room, the grill (lamb chops and tomatoes) so well.
I've been enjoying cooking ever since. I'm a Grandmother five times over now - they call me Lulu.
I still make simple food, without fuss with lots of veggies. “
Be inspired and send your recipes to [email protected]
by the end of October. Many thanks the Cookbook team.
