There are three different versions ofnintendogs + cats. Regardless ofwhich version you own, it is possibleto unlock all the dog and cat breedsby playing with your pets often, andby using StreetPass™.

nintendogs + cats makes use ofthe Nintendo 3DS system clock.Changing the system's date andtime settings may mean that youare temporarily unable toprogress through the game asnormal.

3 Your First Puppy

You'llfind many different breeds of dogsand cats here, but initially only ninepuppy breeds will be available foryou to choose from. Try to find theperfect puppy to take home withyou!

Acquiring a puppy or kitten is likegaining a new member of the family.You have to look after it, be kind toit, take it out and generally give itlots of attention. Most of all, youhave to love and cherish it as one ofyour closest friends. Of course, it'snot just about giving your petaffection. Every pet is different, somake sure you get to know eachone's individual personality andquirks. Each dog or cat breed hasits own unique traits, so no twodogs or cats are ever alike. Showeryour pet with love, train it properly,and you’ll have a friend for life!

When your puppy has settled down,you'll be able to name it. Onceyou've chosen a name, you'll needto teach it to your puppy by sayingit out loud, and then make a note ofit.

5 Saving

In order to saveyour progress,including the statusof your pets, youritems and thelayout of yourroom, you need totouch SAVE while in your room.Make sure you save before quittingnintendogs + cats, so that you donot lose any progress.

To delete all save data relatedto your progress in the game,press and hold + + + simultaneously when thenintendogs + cats logo isdisplayed after starting thegame.Deleted save data cannot berecovered, so please be careful.

Your pet will get hungry and thirsty,so make sure you give it enoughfood and drink. Find out if your petis hungry or thirsty by checking itsInfo Screen (p. 8).

Play with your pet using toys, orjust enjoy dressing it up withvarious accessories. Throw a toyand call your puppy's name, and itwill fetch the toy.

7 Out and About

When going for a walk, touch thelead and slide it in the direction youwant to walk. There are lots ofplaces to visit, including parks,shops, a café and a gym. You canalso use the pedometer to walk yourdog: just close the system and carryit around with you, and the stepsyou take in real life will be reflectedin the game.

10 Owning a Kitten

Owning a kitten is somewhatdifferent from owning a puppy.

Choosing a Kitten

The kennelsalso have catsavailable. Onceyou've gotused to takingcare of yourpuppy, you can go back to thekennels to choose a kitten.

Kitten Behaviour

Unlike puppies,kittens don'tpay peoplemuch attention.They also won'tlearn any tricks,so it's best to leave them to theirown devices. From time to time,kittens will go out and bring back apresent for their owner.

Taking Care of Kittens

When they gethungry, kittensneed to be fedcat food ratherthan dog food.They also likeclimbing up to high places, sogetting some tall furniture for yourroom will keep them happy.

11 Using the Diary

The Diary is used to interact withother owners that you have comeinto contact with via StreetPass(p. 12).

The first time you open the Diary,extra data for the Diary will becreated on the SD Card andnintendogs + cats will be registeredfor use with StreetPass on yoursystem. Without this extra data onthe SD Card, you will not be able touse the Diary or StreetPass.

The screen below is displayed whenyou open the Diary. Use the stylusto write notes in your Diary.

Touch stickers in the Diary to viewdetails of other players and petsyou've met via StreetPass. You caninvite another player's pet to playwith one of your pets in the park.

♦ Unless you've already created aMii using Mii Maker™ (found onthe HOME Menu), your nicknamewill not be displayed in yourowner info. To make yournickname appear, create a Mii andset it in your owner info.

Deactivating StreetPass

To deactivateStreetPass, openthe SystemSettings and selectDATAMANAGEMENT,then STREETPASS MANAGEMENT.Touch the icon for this software title,then select DEACTIVATESTREETPASS.

Close the system and carry it aroundwith you to automatically exchangeinfo with other players ofnintendogs + cats who are usingStreetPass.

Select the AR Camera itemfrom your Supplies andcapture an AR Card onscreen with the outercameras. You can get yourpuppy to do tricks andeven take 3D photos of your pet.

To use SpotPass, you must first:- Accept the Nintendo 3DS Service

User Agreement and Privacy Policy

- Set up an internet connection

If you register nintendogs + cats foruse with SpotPass, your system willautomatically connect to wirelessnetworks with internet access andyou will receive special items, whichappear as stickers in the Diary.

SpotPass is active only when thesystem is in Sleep Mode and withinrange of a compatible internetaccess point.

The AR Cards come includedwith the Nintendo 3DS system.For more information on how touse AR Cards, please refer tothe Nintendo 3DS OperationsManual.
