바질 스튜디오 : 현대적 감각의 공업 스타일과 섬세한 제작 기술을 바탕으로 지역 디자인

업계의 선구자로서 많은 인정을 받은 폴 바질은 가공하지 않은 천연 상태의 나무, 유리, 철을 정교한 예술

작품으로 만들어내는 디자이너다. 90년대에 이르러 디트로이트에서 샌디에이고로 자리를 옮긴 그는 1994

년 바질 스튜디오를 설립했고, 스튜디오는 2008년, 종합 디자인 및 시공 업체로 발돋움했다. 새로운 소재와

스타일을 이용한 끊임없는 시도와 더불어, 풍부한 배경 지식을 지닌 그는 샌디에이고에 있는 수많은

레스토랑을 그만의 스타일로 디자인했으며, 현재는 샌디에이고를 넘어 로스앤젤레스와 아리조나를 포함한

여러 지역에서 이목을 끄는 프로젝트를 진행 중이다. 폴을 필두로 하는 바질 스튜디오가 추구하는 창의적

안목은 다수의 상을 받으며 그 가치를 인정받고 있다. 현재 바질은 다양한 역량을 지닌 디자이너로서

주어진 모든 기회를 활용해 자신의 의도를 세련되고 복잡하지 않은 방법으로 나타내면서 창의적 디자인

BASILE Studio : With his contemporary industrial style and an exhaustive attention to detailed craftsmanship, Paul Basile is recognized by many as a pioneer of the local design movement, elevating wood, glass, and steel from their humble elemental origins to refi ned works of art. After moving from Detroit to San Diego in the 90s, he opened doors to BASILE Studio in 1994, and it transitioned into a full-service design and fabrication studio in 2008. His diverse background, as well as a perpetual drive to experiment with new materials and styles has given rise to many of San Diego’s most unique restaurants. Beyond San Diego, he is currently at work on high-profi le projects in Los Angeles, Arizona and more. With Paul at the helm, BASILE Studio’s creative vision has been recognized with numerous awards. Today, the multifaceted designer consistently redefi nes what it means to create out-of-the-box projects, taking every opportunity to combine purposeful design with sleek, uncomplicated beauty. 캘리포니아 남서부에 위치한 샌디에이고에서 활발히 활

동하고 있는 폴 바질과 그가 이끄는 바질 스튜디오는

이 지역에서 이미 레스토랑 디자인으로 주목 받은 스튜

> 역시 이런 소통 공간에 충실한 곳이다. 사람들이 자

연스럽게 어우러지도록 설계된 공간은 조화로운 재료

조합만큼이나 멋진 결과물이고, 이는 그의 디자인이 환

영 받는 이유이다. 계속해서 활동범위를 늘려가고 있는

바질 스튜디오의 앞으로의 행보가 기대된다.

직접 운영하는 갤러리에서 많은 예술활동을 하고, 또한

당신의 작품에서 예술적 감각이 묻어나는 장식이 많이

보인다. 예술이 당신의 실내 디자인에 영감을 주는가?

모든 프로젝트는 저마다 독특한 창작 활동의 결과를 보

여준다. 그리고 나는 보통 건축물과 그 건물의 역사에서

영감을 찾는데 바로 그 지점에서 모든 세부 요소, 공예

품, 예술 작품 등의 결과물이 나온다.

Paul Basile and his team BASILE Studio is already acclaimed as distinctive restaurant design in San

Diego, southern California where they are based. Countless restaurants with multiple award-winning

show his high profile in local designer. Details and communication are notable features in his works.

All elements placed in space are directly fabricated with materials - wood, glass, black steel which

make perfect harmony in one place. Fabrication makes rough materials sophisticated and detailed. It

proves that details of design and space are the key point in completion. He designs the space with his

intention clearly. You can see big table and stools alongside it in his projects. People in restaurant find

that they sit around the table shoulder to shoulder with strangers while enjoying company. The office

space, <Underground Elephant>, also carries out the role of communal space with bench around tree

and wide work bench. The space which is designed space to make people mingle with others naturally

is a great end result he produces as much as the combination of materials is. It is the reason why his

design vision is appreciated. It is expected that BASILE Studio will continue to take great steps toward

expanding their design areas.

You do lots of artistic works in your gallery, and we can see many esthetic details in your projects.

The art is the ispiration of your interior design?

Each project presents its own unique creative opportunities, and I find that my inspiration usually begins

with the building and its history. All of the resulting details, craftsmanship, and artistry unfold from there.

레스토랑 오너처럼 디자인 외에도 다양한 경험으로 경력

을 쌓았다고 들었다. 모든 것은 레스토랑 디자인에 특화된

바질 스튜디오를 설립하기 위한 과정이었나?

종합 디자인 및 시공 전문 스튜디오로의 확장은 조직적

으로 이루어졌다. 특히 시공, 예술, 제작 분야를 아우르는

나의 배경은 우리가 종합 디자인 스튜디오로 거듭날 수

있는 발판이 됐다. 디자인의 모든 과정을 우리가 직접 다

루고 싶은 마음도 어느 정도 영향을 받았고, 덧붙이자면

‘시공이 디자인을 좌우한다.’가 우리의 철학이다.

해변, 햇빛, 건조한 여름, 항구 등의 샌디에이고만의 환경

은 레스토랑 디자인에 어떤 영향을 주었나?

처음에 우리는 이곳에서 공간의 내부와 바깥의 환경을

연결하는 디자인을 시도한 사람이 아무도 없었다는 사실

에 매우 놀랐다. 우리의 핵심 디자인 목표 중 하나는 내

부와 외부의 경계를 무너뜨리는 것이다.

음식의 메뉴가 레스토랑 디자인에서 중요한 역할을 하지만

공간을 디자인할 때 이외에도 고려해야 할 사항이 매우

많다. 그것의 위계를 잡아 디자인하는 방법이 무엇인가?

공간의 기능성은 우리가 디자인할 때 가장 우선으로 생

각하고 중요하게 다루는 요소다. 레스토랑의 메뉴는 우리

가 디자인 방향을 설정하는 데 도움을 준다. 이외에도 매

장 위치와 매장이 입점해 있는 건물의 역사 역시 진행 과

정 중 우리가 참고하는 부분이고, 가장 큰 것부터 가장

소소한 것까지 모두 디자인 선택을 돕는 자료가 된다. 게

다가 나도 레스토랑을 운영하고 있으므로 외식 업계만의

필요조건, 즉 서비스 측면과 디자인 측면 모두 파악하고

있으며, 이 두 가지가 어떻게 상호작용하며 서로를 보완

하는지 잘 알고 있다.

식물, 넓은 개방된 공간, 재료의 조화를 볼 수 있는 사무공

간인 <언더그라운드 엘리펀트>가 인상 깊었다. 레스토랑보

다 큰 프로젝트인데 진행하는 과정에서 어려운 점은 없

었는가? 그리고 앞으로 레스토랑 외에 영역을 넓혀갈 계

획이 있는가?

약 2,040m2가 넘는 규모의 <언더그라운드 엘리펀트>는

우리가 맡았던 레스토랑 프로젝트보다 훨씬 규모가 컸

다. 큰 도전이었지만 그만큼 엄청난 만족감을 줬다. 프로

젝트 진행 도중 마주쳤던 문제의 상당수가 프로젝트 공

간이 역사적 건물에 자리하고 있다는 상황 때문에 발생

했다. 그렇지만 대부분은 우리가 건물과 그 역사를 최대

한 존중함과 동시에 혁신적이고 현대적인 공동 작업 공

간을 만드는 기회가 됐다. 또, 우리는 우리가 만드는 디

자인이 도시의 공동체적 분위기와 문화를 담아낸다는 것

을 다시 한 번 증명했다. 우리가 이 모든 것을 이뤄낼 수

있었던 것은 디자인, 시공, 제작의 책임을 전부 직접 맡

은 덕분이다. 우리는 계속해서 활동 영역을 넓혀가면서

독창적이고 체험적인 다양한 공간을 만들고자 노력한다.

우리는 레스토랑이나 바 디자인 작업을 매우 좋아하지

만, 다른 한편으로는 샌디에이고가 첨단 기술 중심지로

성장하면서 창의적 업무 공간의 수요가 늘어나 많은 기

대를 하고 있다.

바질 스튜디오가 작업을 할 때 지키고 싶고, 꼭 지켜 나가

야 하는 중요한 점은 무엇인가?

우리의 핵심 목표 중 하나는 재료를 창의적이고 아무도

생각하지 못한 방식으로 활용하면서 본연의 물성을 유지

하는 것이다. 마찬가지로 중요하다고 생각하는 점은 내가

우리 팀에게 자주 이야기하듯 자신의 지평을 넓혀가고,

자기 자신과 디자인이 무엇인지 또 어떻게 다뤄야 하는지

에 대한 편견에 도전하는 것이다. 우리는 우리가 올바른

방향으로 나아가고 있는지 확인하기 위해 가능한 한 많

은 선택지를 살펴본다.

The office project, <Underground Elephant> with green elements, open space, harmony of

materials, is impressive. It’s a bigger project than restaurant. Were there any difficulties in

processing it? And are you planning to expand the areas of interior design?

Yes, at more than 2,040m2, <Underground Elephant> is much larger than our restaurant projects. This

project was very challenging and incredibly satisfying. Many of the difficulties that came up in this

project stemmed from the fact that it is located inside of a historic building, but those difficulties often

turned into opportunities as we were able to honor the building and its history while creating a new

and modern collaborative work environment. We also made sure that our design reflected our city’s

sense of community and culture. We were able to accomplish all of this on this project because we

were responsible for the design, the construction, and the custom fabrication. We are always expanding,

and look forward to creating unique and experiential spaces of all kinds. We love designing bars and

restaurants, and we are particularly excited by San Diego’s growth as a technology hub and the increasing

demand for creative offices.

What is the important thing you want to and must keep when designing with your team under the

name of BASILE Studio?

One of our main goals here is to use materials in innovative and unexpected ways while maintaining

the honesty of the materials. As importantly, I think, is that I often tell my team that we need to push our

own boundaries and challenge ourselves and our preconceptions of what design can and should be. We

explore as many options as possible to ensure the path we are taking is the right one.

B A S I L E S T U D I O↳You spent time growing resume with various experiences beyond designing like restaurant owner.

All things were planned to establish the BASILE Studio specializing in restaurant deisgn?

My expansion into being a full service design/build studio happened organically. My construction, art, and

fabrication backgrounds came together to form our full service studio. This was due, in part, to wanting

to control the design. Our motto is: ‘Control design by building it.’

Has the unique environment of San Diego - coast, sunlight, dry summers, harbor etc. - stongly

influenced the restaurant design?

When we first started we were amazed at how no one here had really connected the exterior to the

interior spaces. One of our main objective is to blur the lines between indoor/outdoor environments.

The menu is the key point of restaurant design. But, there are many things to consider when

designing the space. How do you determine the hierachy of them?

Functionality of a space is the first and most important factor in our designs. The menu helps us to

determine what that means. From there, the location of the project and the history of the building it’s

located in help to inform our design choices, from the largest item to the smallest. And because I own a

few restaurants myself I understand the unique requirements of the industry, from the service perspective

and from the design objective, and how the two interact to inform the other.

Local marketing services company <Underground Elephant> sought visionary Paul Basile

to transform the historic warehouse in East Village into a striking office environment for 120

employees. At the core of the ‘it takes a village’ design concept, the designer custom designed

and fabricated each component to create an environment where employees draw cultivate new

ideas. Inside the cavernous warehouse, the designers created a series of spaces devoted to

fostering a community-driven ethos. Upon entry, employees immediately step into the town plaza

where century-old olive trees are planted in the central area. During the day, the trees provide

a shaded canopy from the natural light filtering in from the solar tubes, while at night the space

is lit by custom steel street lamps, inspired by San Fransisco’s Golden Gate Bridge Lights. Just

beyond the plaza, the ringing sound from the bell tower initiates a town hall meeting scheduled

to take place in the prairie-inspired schoolhouse. Intended to create a community space for

career fairs, meetings, and events, the schoolhouse was erected with wood salvaged from

Sierra Mountains pine trees and features steel doors with a vintage iron chandelier hanging

from the top. These rooms feature two conference tables made from repurposed steel road

plates pulled from the streets of downtown construction and supported with timber. Higher

level executive meetings are held in the War Room located on the southwest corner of the

office. Visible from the busy ballpark street, the War Room is exposed with floor-to-ceiling

windows where the executives sit around a iron throne table. Mixing business and pleasure,

<Underground Elephant> houses a sunken lounge where employees can take a break from the

지역 마케팅 전문 업체 <언더그라운드 엘리펀트>는 이스트 빌리지에 있는 오래된 창고 건물을 120명의 직원이

이용할 차별화된 사무실로 재단장하고자 실력 있는 디자이너 폴 바질을 찾았다. 이에 디자이너는 ‘마을이 필요해’

라는 디자인 개념을 중심으로 공간 안의 모든 요소를 맞춤 제작함으로써 직원이 새로운 생각을 떠올리기 좋은

환경으로 조성했다. 디자이너는 텅 빈 동굴 같던 창고에 소통할 수 있는 여러 공간을 만들었다. 입구에 들어서면

100년 이상 된 올리브 나무를 심어놓은 마을 광장이 보인다. 이곳은 낮 동안 채광관을 통해 들어온 햇빛이 나무에

비쳐 그늘이 생기고, 밤이 되면 샌프란시스코 금문교 조명에서 영감을 얻어 직접 제작한 철제 가로등이 빛을

밝혀준다. 광장 바로 너머에 있는 종탑에서 울리는 종소리는 초원에 있는 것처럼 디자인된 교사에서 전체 직원

회의가 열리는 것을 알린다. 취업 박람회, 회의, 행사 등을 위한 공용 공간으로 설계된 교사는 시에라 산맥에서

벌채한 소나무로 지어졌으며, 철제문과 고풍스러운 철제 샹들리에가 돋보인다. 회의실에는 회의용 탁자 두 개가

놓였는데, 탁자는 시내 도로 공사 현장에서 가져와 재활용한 도로판에 목재를 받쳐 완성됐다. 고위 임원 회의는

사무실 남서쪽 모퉁이에 자리한 워 룸에서 진행된다. 번화가인 볼파크 가에서도 보이는 워 룸은 전면 유리로 되어

철 덩어리로 만들어진 탁자에 둘러앉아 있는 사람의 모습을 그대로 노출시킨다. 일과 즐거움이 함께하는

<언더그라운드 엘리펀트>의 선큰 라운지에서 직원은 커피나 맥주를 마시며 그날의 업무에서 벗어나 휴식을 취할

Part plant-based eatery, part craft cocktail enclave, this concept features a stunning backlit

mirrored coffered ceiling, custom tete-a-tete oak seating installation, and an oversized glass

and brass spirit chandelier. All elements were custom made at Basile’s fabrication warehouse

and design firm in East Village. As an inspired death metal lair-meets-Victorian salon with

French Gothic influence, <Kindred> eschews the rules of design with a creative interplay of

dark and light, masculine and feminine and ornate flourishes coupled with rebellious low-

brow illustrations. Known for his one-of-a-kind handcrafted showpieces and progressive

interpretations of classic architectural styles, the designer delivers a Gothic-revival den to

the heart of the charming, up-and-coming South Park neighborhood. Flying buttresses carry

the details of the coffered ceilings down the wall, which themselves are papered in a custom

pink toile wallpaper depicting satanic versions of a fictional children’s female superhero.

Perfect for the Southern California climate, Gothic-inspired windows flip up to the bustling

side street creating a pop-up open-air seating area. Commanding attention from the back

of the restaurant, a handcrafted black four-eyed wolf is mounted to a textured plaster wall

reminiscent of the Devil’s Tower, a gothic looking rock formation in Wyoming. The unique

technique appears as if the wolf has clawed at the wall in an attempt to escape. With snake

horns protruding over the dining tables below, this dark and eccentric installation is the focal

point in an otherwise light and airy environment. Text offer : BASILE Studio

채식 식당이자 수제 칵테일 전문점인 이곳은 번쩍번쩍 빛나는 거울 장식이 있는 격자 천장이 특징이고, 마주 보고

앉을 수 있는 수제 의자, 그리고 유리와 황동으로 만든 커다란 샹들리에가 눈에 띄는 곳이다. 모든 요소는 이스트

빌리지에 있는 바질 스튜디오의 제작 공방과 디자인 사무소에서 만들어졌다. <킨드레드>는 어둠과 빛, 남성성과

여성성이 적절히 조화된 설계로 기존의 디자인 법칙에서 벗어났고, 반항적인 느낌의 저급한 삽화를 넣어 공간이

화려하게 연출됐다. 수제 가구와 고전 건축양식을 현대적으로 재해석하는 것으로 유명한 디자이너는 요즘 새로

뜨고 있는 지역인 사우스 파크의 중심지에 고딕양식의 공간을 재현했다. 고딕양식을 대표하는 요소인 공중

부벽은 장식이 있는 천장과 벽을 꾸며주는데, 벽은 아이의 상상 속에서나 존재할 법한 여성 히어로가 사탄처럼

그려진 그림이 있는 분홍색 벽지로 도배됐다. 고딕양식의 창문을 젖혀 올리면 사람이 지나다니는 거리 쪽으로

개방된 자리가 임시로 마련되어 캘리포니아 남부의 날씨를 즐기기에 완벽하다. 레스토랑의 안쪽에서 시선을

사로잡는 세 개의 눈을 가진 검은 늑대가 와이오밍 주에 있는 뾰족한 암석인 데빌 타워를 연상하는 회반죽 벽에

걸렸다. 독특한 기법으로 제작된 이 소품은 마치 늑대가 도망가려고 벽을 기어가는 듯하다. 아래 놓인 테이블을

향해 튀어나온 뱀모양의 뿔이 달린 기이한 느낌의 이 검은색 장식은 이곳의 밝고 경쾌한 분위기와 대비되어

CONSORTIUM HOLDINGS HEADQUARTERS

When designing the private creative headquarters for Southern California based restaurant

and cocktail collective CH Projects, progressive local designer Paul Basile was presented with

a unique challenge - a stylish, avant-garde office within the confines of an open-concept

commercial juice bar and coffee house. Located in a warehouse in San Diego’s East Village,

the restaurant group’s office shares space with their wildly successful juice commissary, Juice

Saves as well as collaborative partner Coffee & Tea Collective. Designer’s vision produced

an imaginative, independant glass enclosed structure with contemporary and mid-century

influence as well as features such as a floating loft, suspended conference table, and test bar

for the resident head bartenders to experiment. Brass and glass flip shelving acts as a barrier

between the public eateries and the private office. The custom shelves are lined with books,

found treasures and unique oddities compiled from several of the group’s 13 restaurants

across San Diego. A massive wall imagery depicts Patrick Bateman covered in blood and

screaming in the 1991 cult classic, American Psycho. Another wall, covered in exposed

whitewash brick, showcases the aphorisim ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ emblazoned with

black scripted letters. Contemporary custom-made office furniture include cedar desktops

suspended mid-air from steel posts with brass magnet boards used as a unique backsplash.

Vintage rolling office chairs in various styles and heights add an eclectic vibe to the seating

구조를 만듦으로써 현대식 재료와 근대식 재료를 같이 사용했다. 황동과 유리로 만든 회전식 선반은 공용 식당과

업무 공간을 구분하는 역할을 한다. 직접 제작된 선반에는 샌디에이고에 분포해 있는 13개의 레스토랑에서

가져온 책, 물건, 특이한 소품이 비치됐으며, 한쪽 벽에는 1991년에 개봉한 영화 아메리칸 사이코에서 피를

뒤집어쓴 채 소리를 지르는 패트릭 배이트만이 그려졌다. 하얀 벽돌로 된 다른 편 벽에는 ‘끝없이 갈망하라,

<Ironside Fish & Oyster> has established itself as a mecca where high design meets culinary

prowess. A partnership between hospitality powerhouse CH Projects and BASILE Studio,

the building was one of the last industrial spaces to be redeveloped in the area, and today

represents one of the city’s most visually stimulating restaurant concepts. Staying true to

the building’s industrial roots, the designers preserved the old beams, exposed ductwork

and the exterior facade. Underscoring the restaurant’s approachable raw bar concept is a

maritime theme, which is threaded throughout the massive warehouse space, in homage to

San Diego’s international reputation as a leading seaport hub. From copper riveted tabletops

to vintage boardwalk-inspired seafoam benches and walnut paneling similar to that on Chris

Craft boats, diners are encouraged to discover design elements tucked into every corner. In

the main dining room, antique polished brass kerosene table lamps, like those often found

on nautical ships, line antique mirror top belly bars and main tables. The designer created

an intricate globe light installation, reminiscent of a stylish cruise ship ballroom. Over the

bar, a steel trellis sprawls iron arms and large frosted bulbs, which are reminiscent of giant

octopus tentacles and suction cups. Opening the massive interior to the bustling street side

are steel flip doors, with gridded wood and glass panes. The doors also double as an outdoor

awning, shading the bistro-like patio, which is protected from the busy walkway by custom

copper planters on wheels. A 5.5m vertical living succulent garden flanks the exterior wall,

<아이언사이드 피쉬 & 오이스터>는 돋보이는 디자인과 요리 솜씨가 어우러진 레스토랑으로 자리 잡았다. 외식

업계의 강자 CH 프로젝트와 같이 일해온 바질 스튜디오는 이 지역에서 마지막 남은 산업 공간이었던 건물을

도시 속 화려한 디자인으로 리모델링했고, 그 결과 눈을 사로잡는 레스토랑이 탄생했다. 산업시설물인 이곳의

역사를 존중하는 의미에서 디자이너는 기존의 빔 구조와 노출 공조 설비, 입면은 그대로 남겨두고, 투박한 느낌의

바를 강조하고자 해양도시로 유명한 샌디에이고와 어울리는 바다를 주제로 한 대형 창고를 디자인했다. 리벳

못으로 고정된 구리 테이블 상판, 해변에 있는 나무판자 길에서 영감을 얻은 바다 거품처럼 폭신한 벤치, 그리고

크리스 크래프트 보트에 사용된 것과 비슷한 호두나무 원목 패널까지 많은 디자인 요소를 이곳에서 발견할 수

있다. 식사 공간에는 선박에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 유광 황동 소재의 오래된 등유 테이블 램프가 거울이 있는 바와

중앙 테이블을 따라 설치됐고, 화려한 크루즈 선박 파티장을 떠올리는 섬세한 장식의 둥근 조명이 제작됐다. 바

천장에 길게 펼쳐진 철제 격자 구조물은 철 골조와 커다랗고 불투명한 전구로 구성되어 거대 문어의 촉수와

빨판처럼 보인다. 나무와 유리로 만든 격자무늬의 철제 회전식 문이 있어 넓은 실내 공간은 외부로 개방된다.

또한, 문은 작은 식당 같은 파티오 공간의 차양 역할을 하고, 이동식 구리 화단은 거리의 분주한 모습을 가려준다.

외벽을 가로지르는 높이 5.5m의 다육 식물 정원으로 샌디에이고에서 즐기는 야외 식사는 더욱 특별해진다.

As craft beer has continued its steady progress toward mainstream consumption, startup

breweries are going beyond the basic picnic table and fermenters. A modern era of design-

forward brewhouses are attracting a new legion of design-forward craft beer enthusiasts.

Locally, San Diego home brewer turned entrepreneur Kelsey McNair recently opened doors

to his high-design hop haven, <North Park Beer Co.>. The designer blended two very unique

styles, taking cues from the neighborhood’s Arts and Crafts architectural aesthetic while

incorporating elements from the Midcentury Modern movement, pulled from the aesthetic of the

existing shell building, to create a vibrant brewery that acts as a community gathering place for

local people. To add a more distinctive fl air to the design, he peppered in undertones from the

Midcentury Modern movement, like custom street lamps with smoked glass top globes, while

Arts and Crafts in style with stained white oak and symmetrical details. Text offer : BASILE Studio

수제 맥주 시장이 꾸준한 성장을 이어오면서, 새로 문을 여는 맥주 가게는 간단한

식사를 하는 테이블과 발효기만 놓던 것과는 달라진 매장을 선보이고 있다. 디자인에

신경을 쓴 가게가 등장하면서 분위기 좋은 맥주 가게를 선호하는 사람이 늘어나고

있다. 샌디에이고 지역 양조장 운영자에서 사업가로 변신한 켈시 맥네어 역시 최근

디자인이 돋보이는 맥주 천국 <노스 파크 비어 컴퍼니>의 문을 열었다. 디자이너는

주변에서 볼 수 있는 아트 앤 크래프트 건축양식과 기존 건물에서 가져온 근대

건축양식, 특징이 강한 이 두 가지 양식을 조합했고, 이곳은 동네 주민이 모여

이야기를 나누는 장소가 되도록 활기 넘치는 분위기의 디자인으로 완성됐다. 더

차별화된 디자인을 위해 그는 근대 시기의 특징을 가미했는데, 그 예로 검게 그을린

유리 전구가 달린 가로등이 있다. 이 장식은 아트 앤 크래프트양식이 엿보이는 흰색

BASILE Studio created an inviting ambiance for this chef-driven accessible craft food eatery

by utilizing a series of reconsidered materials. By reinterpreting common building materials

they were able to abstract their materiality and heighten their functionality. The main facade

incorporates recycled construction scaffolding planks, while concrete forms create the bases

for the main bar areas. Articulated I-beams are transformed into interior seating and window

frames. Overhead, the framing is exposed, highlighting the attachment of the structure to the

custom rough-sawn cedar plank LED pendant lights and chandeliers. Text offer : BASILE Studio

바질 스튜디오는 쉐프가 직접 요리하는 식당을 여러 재료를 재활용해 친근감이 도는

공간으로 만들었고, 평범한 건물의 자재를 재해석해 재료의 물성을 부각하면서

기능까지 강조했다. 식당 입구 정면은 비계용 나무판자가 재활용됐으며, 바가 있는

공간의 바닥은 콘크리트 거푸집으로 마감됐다. 또한, 아이빔을 연결해 내부 좌석과

창틀을 만들었다. 천장은 노출된 구조로 인해 거친 느낌으로 재단된 향나무 판재로
