BASKET WEAVING CLASSES MAULDIN CULTURAL CENTER Muffin Basket with Woven Handle Cost $40 12 x 12 x 5.5” January 13, 2018 Saturday, 9 am -2 pm This useful basket starts on a filled in base. The corners are rounded to make a round basket on top. Smoked reed and seagrass decorate the sides. The beefy handle adds to the round top. Handles are woven into the basket and sealed with the smoked reed lashing. Deadline to register is Jan. 5, 2018. Pickle Barrel (Mini) Cost - $40 8” diameter by 7” tall February 10, 2018 Saturday, 9 am to 2 pm Started on a wooden base, students will twine the bottom, and then upset the spokes perpendicular to the base. Students will use stop-start weaving along with a chase weave for the checkerboard pattern. Colors available are dark green, brown, and blue. Deadline to register is Feb. 2, 2018. Divided Base Organizer Cost $40 9” diameter, 4.5” tall, 8” tall with handle March 6, 2018 TUESDAY 9 am to 2 pm By popular request this divided base basket can hold office, craft, and beauty supplies. Spokes are preinserted into base. After twining the spokes, an upset of the spokes will follow the sides of the division pieces. Overlays are used to decorate the sides of the basket. Colors available are brown/tan (shown) and blue/aquamarine. Deadline to register is February 26. Use the 2 nd page to register for classes. Class size limited to 8 weavers.

After these deadlines you may pick up your kit or receive a refund of $20 (since materials will have been purchased). What to bring: A dishpan or bucket to wet your reed, an old towel to wrap reed in (the dyed reed may bleed on this towel), your own drink or snack/lunch if you need to eat during class time, an apron or wear old clothes. Teacher will bring: all materials, bases stained and sealed, reed, tools, spray bottles, etc. About myself: I have been weaving baskets for over 20 years and teaching for 15. I enjoy using color, different weaves, and creating my own baskets. I also learn from students as they give input into my directions, colors, what does or does not work, and all “what ifs”.
