Purpose by David Spillman

"You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail" (Proverbs 19:21 NLT). Very straight forward and simple...God is in control, which means that I am not! With this being true, then why do I live my life as if I am in control? Why do I try to control others? Whether that be my spouse, my children, people at work, people at school, people "at church"...and then I get made when they don't act, talk, or do what I told them to do or think like I "suggested" they think??? Many of us practically wear ourselves out trying to control circumstances and situations that we have absolutely no control over to begin with! We can make all the plans we want, but ultimately, God's purpose is going to win out. It is good and responsible to make plans, but often do we make plans with God's bigger plan in the mix? When Jesus asked the question, "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?" (Matthew 16:26 NLT). Jesus lets us in on God's purpose for our lives...and it is not about being well known and popular, but how many of us plan and plan to make this happen? It is not about fulfilling the American dream with a perfect family, job, house, cars, and retirement...yet how many of us plan and plan to make this a reality? It is not even to have perfect health and, oh how we can make plans for perfect health by doing tons of research on the foods we eat, exercise and the human body! From what Jesus tells us in the verse above, many of us have very short-term purposes. But God, who sees the past, present, and future, acts with what is best for our eternal destiny! This is His focus! He cares much less about short term issues and more about our eternal destiny! So do not get discouraged when you do not feel like any of your plans are working out. Trust God and know that He is using whatever is going on in the moment for your eternal good! "Thank-you, God!"

Martin Feith was forgiven of his sins as he confessed his belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized this past Sunday by David Spillman. Martin is Wendelle and Pat Haines’ brother-in-law. He was married to Wendelle’s sister who passed away in the recent months. Please take a minute or two to introduce yourself to our brother-in-Christ, if you haven’t already done so.

If each person (110 people) gave $1.80 more each week, we would have an additional $11,211 in 1 year; that is $ 6,411. more than 1 week’s budget and $ 11 more than our current shortfall! $1.96 per week for 52 weeks totals $ 101.92. Let us consider with a cheerful heart our gift!
