For thirty years, the Tri-State Better Business Bureau has set and upheld

high standards for fair and honest business behavior. BBB’s nationwide provide services to their community illuminating the importance of ethics in business and supporting honesty and marketplace trust. In this spirit, the Tri-State BBB looks to recognize local businesses that have shown an outstanding commit-ment to ethical business behaviors through our annual Business of Integ-rity Torch Awards. The Torch Award is a publically rec-ognized achievement in our commu-nity and bestowed only to those will-ing to prove their commitment to ex-cellence in the marketplace. We invite your organization to com-pete with the best and submit an ap-plication for a Business of Integrity Torch Award in 2010.

Build Trust– Establish and maintain a positive track record in the marketplace. Advertise Honestly-Adhere to established standards of advertising and selling. Tell the Truth-Honestly represent products and services, including clear and ade-

quate disclosures of all material terms. Be Transparent-Openly identify the nature, location, and ownership of the business,

and clearly disclose all policies, guarantees, and procedures that bear on a cus-tomer’s decision to buy.

Honor Promises-Abide by all written agreements and verbal representations. Be Responsive– Address marketplace disputes quickly, professionally, and in good

faith. Safeguard Privacy-Protect any data collected against mishandling and fraud, collect

personal information only as needed, and respect the preferences of custom-ers regarding the use of their information.

Embody Integrity-Approach all business dealings, marketplace transactions,

and commitments with integrity.

Business of Integrity Torch Awards are open to all Accredited Businesses within the Tri-State Better Business Bureau’s Service area. The 18-County Area includes the following counties: IL—Edwards, Gallatin, Lawrence, Wa-bash, White; IN—Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Martin, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, Warrick; KY—Henderson, Union. Businesses must also be in good standing with the Tri-State BBB. Entry Criteria: To be considered for a 2010 BBB Torch Award, a business must demon-strate how its policies and practices reflect BBB Standards for Trust. Entries must include: • A completed entry form • A written description of the organization (upto 1 pg in length) , includ-

ing its history, leadership, size, and products or services. • A description, limited to four pages or less, of how the business meets

BBB Standards for Trust in its operations and with customers, suppli-ers and/or staff.

BBB Standards for Trust: Build Trust Advertise Honestly Tell the Truth Be Transparent Honor Promises Be Responsive Safeguard Privacy Embody Integrity • Additional materials that demonstrate the business’s commitment to

BBB Standards for Trust are welcome and encouraged. Some exam-ples may include:

-Mission Statements -Policies or sections from an employee handbook, manual or training program showing how ethics policies are communicated

-News Articles, Awards or Community Service Projects -Advertising samples or descriptions of methods used to

assure all advertisements are truthful and accurate -Customer Testimonials, or complimentary feedback from customers, vendors or suppliers or other items to support the entry.

Entries are limited to 25 pages.

Eligibility

Hardcopy entries must be submitted on 8.5” x 11” paper with one-inch margins, and organized in a folder, binder or similar package. Three cop-ies of your entry are requested. Please keep a copy of the completed entry as all submitted entries be-come property of the Tri-State BBB and will not be returned. Deadline: The 2010 Torch Awards entry deadline is 4 p.m. on July 2. 2010. The Torch Awards luncheon will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Casino Aztar, 421 Northwest Riverside Dr., Evansville, IN. Four recipients will be determined, one from each of the following categories: 1-10 employees, 11-99 employees, 100-499 employees

and 500+ employees.
