Hello and Happy 2017!! For us, it started out

crazy but ended up a blessing. My daughter BJ

got moved back in her house this past weekend.

Praise the Lord. We didn't get to go to South

Texas like planned but there will be next year.

Sure miss all our friends but glad they all got to

go and are having a great time. Maybe we can

take a short vacation sometime in February.

Right now we are finishing our program for our

2017 Rally and hoping to getting a short ver-

sion published for our newsletter.

Several have had bronchial problems this month

but most are doing better by now. The weather

has been so unusual this year; we have had very

little cold, now we are being alerted that winter

is coming soon.

Bill contacted Four States Fairground today;

they laughingly said, "We are ready for the Ar-

kansas Good Sam RV Rally"... Yeah!! We are

glad to have that Welcome attitude. bWe’ve got

a good plan going, good entertainment sched-

uled and about ready to roll... getting excited!

Well, we’ll sign off and say "God Bless" til next

month.

Bill and Dee Nery

Oh Lord; Thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our Potter; and we all are the work of Thy hand. Isaiah 64:8

Here comes April! The Rally this year will be taking some different turns;

but you can expect it to be a happy, friendly place to be during the 13th

thru the 16th!!

For starters check out the draft Rally schedule on page 4. It’s subject to

change, but you can pick out your favorites and arrange so you don’t

miss anything.

Veterans Sams information is presented in a new format this month.

Gene Hicklin, President wants to make sure you don’t miss an opportunity

to join other Veterans at the Area 5 Friendship in March.

Information for Area Friendships is given front and center throughout

the camping months on page 1. Everyone is welcome at each friendship.

Step out and make new friends by attending a new .

One of the events that might require some advance planning for you

could be the Dutch Oven Cookoff. Duke Monroe has an enticing article

on page 10; if you choose to participate, maybe you’ll be the one to depose

one of last year’s winners.

2017 Park Host schedules are newly updated by Roger Robbins and are

on pages 10 and 11. (Check the date at the top to be sure you are look-

ing at the most current information.) If you haven't done park hosting

before, you need to attend the Park Host Meeting on Friday at the Rally.

There are forms there to fill out to let Roger know you’re interested.

Advertisers in the newsletter are an important part of it. Please let them

know you see their ad. Some are old friends and on page 9 is a new one.

Several are favorites for Friendship Campouts. Visit them if you have a

chance.

A quick “taking care of business” note: Volunteer hours are due from

each chapter the first week in January each year. Please check with your

chapter officers to see if they have submitted these to me. Totals for the

chapter for hours, expenses, and milage are all that’s needed and can be

sent to me in an email.

As always, I’m here to help you and get information to you and let our

Good Sam members know about your chapter activities, wants, and

needs. Just drop me an email with your article as the body of the email.

I can take it from there.

Derrick City Sams held their January 20th meeting at Cancun Restaurant in Magnolia, AR. It was an EAT and

MEET with 17 members present. We had discussion on purchase of two new flags, American and Arkansas. Gary Cameron will order these for the Chapter. We voted on which charities to donate to. We decided on five. We voted to accept Gary and Den-ise Cameron to join our Chapter. Let's give a big welcome to them. Wagonmaster Bennie Langheld gave a report on February 17 meeting to be held at "What's Cooking?" Restau-rant in Camden at 11:00 AM. Submitted by Vona Smith

Good Sam Mallards held their January meeting at Dondees Restaurant in Des Arc. They have a nice buffet

with good food, and on Thursday evening they have a Senior Buffet. The business meeting was held after eat-ing. We will resume camping March 9-12, weather permitting, at Mississippi River State Park near Marianna. Since the AR State Rally will be held April 13-16, which is our usual camping time and also Easter weekend, we will likely change our date for April camping. More on that later. May 3-6 will be Area 4 Friendship Campout at Pecan Grove in Lake Village, and that will be the May campout. Our next meeting will be February 9th at 5:30 PM at El Amigo Mexican Restaurant in Hazen. Arkansas One January meeting was held at the home of Linda and James Niblett in Jessieville. We had a good time visiting,

eating, and finally having a business meeting. We discussed campouts and meetings for the year. Some of our meetings will be at Friendship Campouts where several members are planning to attend. March - Area 5 with Veterans Sams at Cloud Nine in Hot Springs April - AR State RV Rally, Texarkana May - Area 4 in Lake Village at Pecan Grove June - Joint campouts with Thundering Sams and Melon City Sams August - Lake Catherine Sep - Area 6 in Lake Village at Pecan Grove Oct/Nov - Lake Catherine work week Arkansas One will be in charge of the popcorn booth again at the Rally in Texarkana in April, so we will need helpers. This year’s theme is “Wizard of Oz,” and we’re adding Aunt Em’s Sweet Tea and Lemonade to the popcorn booth menu. James is already planning his menu for the Dutch Oven Cooking contest. Linda and Katy are working on their red glittered shoes. Now if we can find someone from our group to be our entry in the “Miss Dorothy” contest at the costume party and games on Friday afternoon!

Our February meeting is Saturday the 18th at 1:00 PM at the Smokin’ in Style - Hot Springs. See you there.

La Petite Roche River Valley Sams January and February are cold, wet and windy weather months for Arkansas but those Rock City Sams mem-

bers who have put their RV’s into traveling mode are enjoying the warm sunshine and sometimes windy days of South Texas and Florida. No matter where chapter members go they always find ways to volunteer within the local community. Some of our chapter members have been traveling to Florida for park hosting while others are in South Texas filling in as maintenance workers. Some members choose to crochet for Warm Up America and others volunteer to take park neighbors to doctors and hospitals. Back home in Arkansas, RCS members are

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone who has moved to warmer climates for the winter are safe and healthy and happy! We missed you all at our meeting.

The Spa City Sams Chapter met at World Buffet in Hot Springs, Arkansas on January 19, 2017. We were able to

catch up with each other before eating lunch and having a short meeting. Our next meeting is February 16, 11:00 AM at Jose’s Mexican Grill & Cantina at 5361 Central Ave in Hot Springs. Everyone please bring one of your wedding pictures to show. It will be around Valentine’s Day after all. March 12-17 Lake Ouachita SP. We’re going to be in the A section. After celebrating the upcoming Christmas season with a party including finger foods, gifts, and "dirty Santa,"

Thundering Sams went into hibernation. Some spent time with family, others just hung out at home. One

couple ventured to the Texas Valley but most of us stayed close and enjoyed the unseasonable warmth we have experienced lately. But hibernation time has ended and we are ready to romp and play again. Our entertainment committee has met and determined our campouts for 2017. They are as follows: January - Meet, Greet and Eat January 26 at 4:00 p.m. at Western Sizzler in Benton. There we will determine dates for our campouts and chisel them in stone (sandstone in the event something must be changed at a later date). February will be our Sweetheart din-ner, March - Area 5 Friendship at Cloud 9 RV, April - Good Sam Rally, May - Georgetown, KY to see the Ark Mu-seum, June - Joint campout with Arkansas 1 at Cloud 9 RV, July - Cedar Oaks RV Grove, OK, August - Mountain View AR, September - Area 6 Friendship at Pecan Grove RV, October - ABC Campground in Branson, November - Tom Sawyer RV in West Memphis, December - Christmas Party. We invite you to come join us for any (or all) of our campouts. We enjoy "company" and always manage to have a very good time.

The Whispering Pines Travelers met on January 20th at 2:45 at Golden Corral in N Little Rock for lunch.

Thirteen rigs were represented. Correspondence from Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation and Open Arms Shelter thanking the chapter for the $100 donations to each was read by Peggy Lomax. Volunteer hours should be turned in to Peggy Lomax and Girtie VanHoveln. The 50/50 drawing was won by Billie New. Bob Lomax, Wagon Master said that a new revised schedule had been sent. He also informed us that the natu-ralist at Lake Ft Smith will work with us on the November meeting. The March campout will be in Vicksburg, MS. The next meeting will be on February 10 at 2 p.m. at Barnhill Steak House in Jacksonville, formerly Western Siz-zlin’. The host are Richard and Ginny Zelnick.

Attention all Dutch Oven Cooking Aficionados (look it up!): Mr. Niblett and Mr. Hicklin have spent the past year regaling in their esteemed statuses (statusi would be a more proper plural) as the Kings of

Arkansas Good Sams Charcoal Dutch Oven Cooking categories of Des-sert and Non-dessert respectively. The dethroning process will begin at

the 2017 Texarkana Rally. To that end, this is a call for challengers to sign up to compete. The event will be on Friday this year, with contestants preparing their entries after Mr. Robbins' Park Host Training session. We

plan to have the "Tasting" competition around 3:30 pm. The exact timing of the event will be determined shortly by the Rally organizers.

We have opened the competition to our out-of-state Good Sammers at-tending the Rally. Instead of having a Dutch Oven Cooking seminar prior

to the event, those wanting to learn the "how to" secrets are invited to join us as we prepare our delicious entries. You can watch, take notes, and ask questions as you watch the masterful preparations.

Please email Duke Monroe [email protected] if you plan to at-

tempt to dethrone the Kings and let him know your cooking category: dessert or non-dessert.
