We are “on the road again” visiting Friend-ship Campouts and attending the 3 fall state RV Rallys in South region: Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. This is a part of the Director’s job we really enjoy. Good Sam International has reorganized the US and Canadian Regions from 9 to 7. South Region now includes Mississippi, the Region Director. Due to these recent circumstances we WILL run next year to retain our current position as AR State Di-rector, end date December 31, 2017. How-ever, this is open to anyone who wants to run. A candidate should submit an article about their candidacy, and we encourage you to check the newsletter each month for additional information about this upcoming election. Stage Decorations for 2018 AR GS Ral-ly: We need a chapter to volunteer by Feb-ruary 2017 for doing the stage decorations at this 2018 Rally. Registrations are given out at the 2017 Rally so we need to know by this date. Share your talents Bill and Dee Nery

May the Good Lord

bless your travels.

Natural Falls State Park received Belle Point Sam chapter

members for a September Campout. Dinner was a caravan to the Harvest House Restaurant in Kansas, OK. Tuesday morning after a huge delicious breakfast at the Cherokee Casino in West Siloam Springs the members were off to do their “thing” until time for the dinner potluck. Wednesday morning those who were still camping did their own breakfast then sat around outside visiting until the heat drove us back inside. Several members went back to the Cherokee Casino for the lunch buffet. At 5 p.m. we gathered at the Park’s Reunion Room for the swapping of more stories, dinner and to play more cards. Thursday morning the Area 1 Friendship campout in Grove beck-oned some members, and others headed to the Missouri State Ral-ly. Note: Any pictures taken during the campout are posted on our Face Book Page.

Safe Travels. Ann Martin, Secretary

The Bella Vista Traveling Sams met in Grove, Oklahoma,

Sept 23 – 25, 2016, for the Area 1 Friendship Campout. Nine rigs attended plus we welcomed our visitors Richard and Margie Cooper. Election of officers for next year was held and installa-tion will be held in December. The group enjoyed games, visit-ing, and eating at the campout.

The next meeting will be the annual cleanup at Devil’s Den State Park, Oct 23-26. If you are wanting to attend this campout, you need to call Gary or Virginia Reynolds 479-715-6137.

You’ll notice additional changes to the newsletter in an effort to get more information to everyone and make this newsletter the go to place to find what you’re looking for! Chapter elections have either been held or are coming up. Take a look at page 9 for the results of chapter elections. And, also on page 9 is the 2017 state rally schedule which will soon list Mississippi, a new state member of South Region. A second change I plan to make is a separate section listing each chapter’s camping schedule. Nudge your chapter Wagonmaster to submit these. They will be grouped together; and, if you happen to be in the neighborhood, visit another chapter. Supporting each other is what Good Sams is all about. Watch for information about the 2017 election for AR State Direc-tor. Remember, anyone can run for this office. The 3 fall state rallys for the South Region will be over by the time you read this newsletter. Keep an eye on the Rally schedule in this newsletter to plan for 2017. Park Hosting schedules have been removed and will come back in Janu-ary when Roger has worked hard to continue this valuable service Good Sams does for the Arkansas Parks. Anyone can share camping related information in this newsletter. If your chapter doesn’t regularly participate in the monthly issues, give it a try on your own. Did your chapter find a new restaurant or visit a new place that you just know others will enjoy? Tell them about it through The Arkansam News! If you run into any problems or anything you’re not sure of, just let me know. I’ll be glad to help in any way I can. You will always be able to reach me by phone: Paulette 479-644-7461 or Arnie 644-6492. We have rented a P O Box 54 in Britt, IA 50423. If you use this box, your snail mail will reach me much more efficiently. or send me an email with your article as the body of the email([email protected]). We will again be staying in Britt for the winter. The condo we rent will be available September 5th and through April. We’re going to catch up with friends, hobbies, and reading material. Texting is a favorite of mine (not so much Arnie’s) or call or drop me a note if you want to chat about anything! Don’t forget, deadline each month is the 25th. Now that things are slowing down, I hope to be able to implement some new ideas for this newsletter and your input is very important. Paulette

Our annual update: Delta Sams members C.W. & Betty Hin-

ton and Orlan & Molly Abernathy attended the Spring RV Rally in Texarkana, AR then headed to their Park Hosting. The Abernathys spent the summer camping in the State of Arkansas while the Hintons did their VBS trip to Crown Point, NM. Annie did trips to Franklin, TN to visit family; also, Roy & Ila East are traveling some. We haven’t heard from the Hodges. Orlan & Molly and C.W. & Betty attended the fall rallys at Sedalia, MO and Hutchinson, KS before heading back to Arkansas. We hope everyone will be with us for the 2017 camping season. Big Pine Sams Derrick City Sams September 16 meeting had 11 rigs present for a Lake Catherine Campout.

Wagonmaster Robbie Williams reported next campouts. Oct 3-7, Moro Bay State Park. Oct.24-28, Wooly Hollow, Greenbrier, AR. New Officers for 2017 were elected. There were lots of opportunities to eat out! As a Group we went to Dixie Diner, Cracker Barrel, and Smokin’ in Style. Some went to On the Border & Longhorn Steakhouse. The ladies even got to do some shopping. A big THANKS to Jack & Joy Godwin for hosting a "Big Ole" hamburger & sausage supper. Ladies furnished desserts and it was a job well done! Robbie & Debbie Williams hosted an ice cream social and there was a Bingo game with lots of good prizes. Labor Day weekend Butch & Carol Kee & Tommy & Vona Smith went to a “new to us” RV Park on Hwy 59S near Texarkana, The Texarkana RV park. A very nice place. Submitted by Vona Smith

The Stuttgart Good Sam Mallards traveled all the way to Mississippi River SP near Marianna, AR for their Sep-

tember get together. We were stuffed all weekend with good food; the fish just weren’t biting, and games were played which made a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. A business meeting was called to order on Saturday. The October campout will be at Lake Catherine SP on October 13-16. The Christmas party will be December 10 at Zion Lutheran Fellowship Hall, Ulm, AR. The Nominating Committee reported the 2016 officers had agreed to stay on for another year. See you next month, the good Lord willing.

Arkansas One camped with members and chapters at the Area 6 Friendship Campout at Riverside RV Park in North

Little Rock, September 6-9. As we arrived on Tuesday, Girtie was waiting with registration and goodie bags. Members from other chapters en-joyed visiting with each other and seeing friends again. There were a few card games, too. Late afternoon was bar-becue for sandwiches, followed by Bingo with cash! prizes for the winners, and door prizes. Wednesday morning’s breakfast was followed by a scheduled tour of The Old Mill. It is a nearby historic park that is seen in the opening of “Gone with the Wind”. We learned about the history and construction of the Mill. It’s a reproduction, made entirely of concrete, but so realistic that it’s hard to tell. There were 2 auctions on Thursday and more card games, ladder golf, bean bags, and bull toss, too. We ended with a catered catfish dinner followed by live music. Thanks Girtie and Tom for a great time. Our business meeting was on Wednesday afternoon. We officially nominated James Niblett as a candidate for AR State Director and discussed camping for 2017, including a joint campout with Melon City Sams. More details will follow.

On Sunday, September 11th five rigs from Spa City Sams met at Petit Jean SP and we gathered around a fire

in the evening.. Monday some went exploring and hiking on some of the wonderful trails through the gorgeous park. There are overlooks that let you see across the state of Arkansas to Mount Magazine, Mount Nebo and the Arkansas Riv-er. The temperature was perfect for being outside all day. Tuesday we went to lunch at the Rockefeller Institute near the campground. It was a very good buffet and a beautiful setting. This is a secret hideaway in Arkansas that is not very well known. Each day they have a dif-ferent buffet that is very affordable. The grounds of the Institute are fun to explore as well. Wednesday the ladies traveled to Russellville for shopping and lunch at Stoby’s. They also toured Lake Dar-danelle State Park and Old Post Road Campground. The guys went back to the Rockefeller Institute for lunch. Thursday was the salad potluck lunch and meeting. All of the salads were terrific! We had several members come to the park for the meeting and Roger Robbins came up for camping and park hosting, too. During the meeting the 2017 officers were discussed. Since only one position was being vacated this year, Colleen Lund volunteered to fill the V-P position. All of the other current officers agreed to continue their po-sitions, so that completed our slate of officers for next year. Our next campout is our work week at Lake Catherine, October 16-21. If you don’t have a site already, please contact Doug Tinkle for a site assignment. November 10th we’re having a “meet and eat” at Charlie’s Pizza Pub near Hot Springs Village. December 8th is our Christmas Luncheon and “Dirty Santa” gift exchange at Smokin’ In Style in Hot Springs.

THE TRAIN: At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believe they will always travel by our side. As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of your life. However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this jour-ney alone. Others will step down over time and leave a permanent vacuum. Some, however, will go so unnoticed that we don't realize they vacated their seats. This train ride will be full of joy, sor-row, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells. Success consists of having a good rela-tionship with all passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves.

The mystery to everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life. I wish you all a joyful journey.

Greetings from Roger, Park Host Coordinator —

I hope everyone is having a great summer. It sure has been hot but fall is on it’s way and will be here before we know it. All of our Park Hosts have done a great job park hosting as scheduled. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our Park Hosts who are experiencing health issues and we pray they will soon enjoy good health and be able to join us next year. The Area Friendships are a lot of fun to attend and I hope that you are able to make it to some of them if not all of them. It’s a great way to meet members outside your own chapter and make many new friends. Of course you can also enjoy some good food, games and fellowship. Until next time, keep camping and, hopefully, we will see you down the road somewhere.
