Welcome to the 2014 Be-A-Star Program: Focus on the Future

Every goal, no matter how big or small, is achieved one step at a time. If you know what success looks like, you can map the path to get there. Achieving our business goals, like the ones outlined in this year’s Be-A-Star program, ensures a successful outcome for our team, our business, and the company. Achieving our business goals calls for us to stay focused and that’s why we’re calling this year’s Be-A-Star program Focus on the Future.

The Be-A-Star program is your guide to success. Star achievements are aligned with your sector’s MAP goals and other important business objectives that will ensure your success and keep you focused. The program consists of three ‘Star’ periods, aligned with the first three quarters of the fiscal year. In the fourth quarter results are tallied and national winners are determined.

You can access your program instructions, find support, upload submissions and claim Stars right here on the Be-A-Star website. We’ve done our best to make it simple and to give you links to everything you’ll need. Please help us keep it ‘green’ by completing and submitting all reports and forms electronically (unless otherwise noted).

Optional “EARLY BIRD” RAFFLE: Let us know how you prepared for this year’s Be-A-Star Program! How are you going to implement Simply Good…what will you do to impact food cost…what is your communication plan…how will you refresh your account? Submit an overview of your plan for this year’s Be-A-Star Program. Upload it to the Star 1, Achievement 1 section of the Be-A-Star website by October 1, 2013 and be eligible for the “Early Bird” Raffle and a chance to win a special dinner with your planning team! CARE (Chartwells Associate Recognition Experience) (Optional)

Sing loudly the praises of your associates so that we can all celebrate their greatness! Without the dedication of our associates to provide great service, care in the production of our food and attention to our customers’ needs, our success would be limited. Two years ago, Chartwells introduced the CARE program, encouraging our operators to demonstrate care and concern for the well-being of our associates. It’s your chance to highlight the extraordinary efforts of the people working in your units. We’ve seen great examples of great efforts to provide great service … and the benefits are priceless.

This optional component is a great way to recognize associates who run the front lines of our business. This “care” comes inmanyforms:throughrecognition.Recognitioncantakeplaceatapre-servicemeeting,mentioningtheemployeeinalocal communication, such as a school presentation or by utilizing the Compass Group HERO program.

However you choose to recognize, please submit it as part of Be-A-Star and increase the level of recognition…sing loudly the praises of your associates so that we can all celebrate their greatness!

Submit a short video clip (1-2 minutes) of the associate talking about the great thing that they did to contribute to the success of your operation. If unable to provide a video, you may submit only the form along with a picture of the associate. This should be relatable to Compass Group’s Values and Guiding Principles.

How to get credit: 1. Complete the Star 1, Achievement 3 Form and upload to the Star Claims page of the Be-A-Star website, along with a

picture of your associate (if applicable). 2. Complete a short video clip (1-2 minutes) with your associate talking about the great thing they did. (The video must

be less than two (2) minutes long. Acceptable video file formats include .mp4 .wmv .avi .mov .flv. These are common in Flip cameras, iPhones and other mobile devices.) IMPORTANT NOTE: If unable to provide a video, you may submit only the form along with a picture of the associate.

Complete the Star 2, Achievement 4 Form and upload to the Star Claims page of the Be-A-Star website, along with a

picture of your associate (if applicable).

Focus on Communication

Retention is a vital part of our business and, how and when you communicate to your customers is a key factor! It’s how you share all of the great things you and your associates do at your account everyday! Communication must be frequent and include all of our stakeholders…parents, students, associates, and administrators.

Share all of the ways that you communicate with your customers…students, parents, the school community and administrators as well as your associates. How do you keep the excitement going all year long through communications at your district? Do you use newsletters, a school district website, letters to parents, Simply Good and/or a client report?

How to get credit: 1. Establish what ways and how often you will communicate to your customers and associates so that you keep the

excitement going throughout the school year. 2. Tell us how you communicated to all of your stakeholders (school website, social media, newsletters, board reports,

pre-service meetings, etc.) and how often (monthly, quarterly, etc.). Share your communication activities using the Star 3 Achievement 3 Form. Upload the form to the Star Claims page of the Be-A-Star website.
