Students’ UnionLondon South Bank Students’ Union is the centre of the student social experience. It features a number of extra-curricular activities that you can get involved in, such as a wide range of sports teams and societies that cover cultural, political and social interests. Beyond this, the Students’ Union also provides a range of services to help you with life inside and outside University, if you run into trouble you can talk to one of the specialist advisors in confidence about a range of matters.

The Students’ Union is led by four elected full-time officers who ensure that our students are being properly represented. These officers don’t have to be graduates; often officers interrupt their studies and take a year out and are supported by a team of full time staff members. The Students’ Union is located in the Student Life Centre building, alongside the University support services.www.LSBSU.org

At LSBU we have a thriving community of 86,000 former students, friends and staff members. This is a huge amount of talent, ideas and experience for us to share and build upon.

• New thinking • Lasting connections • Real opportunities

We match the drive and determination of LSBU students with connections and support found within our alumni community.

“Studying at LSBU has formed the basis of all my jobs thus far, so it’s great to have the chance to share my experience with students who are embarking on a career in nursing and also let them know about some of the challenges they may face along the way.”Alumna, BSc Nursing, 1985

Enterprise is not just about starting a business. It’s about developing transferable skills that are valuable to any career. Developing enterprise skills is essential for your future, whether you become an entrepreneur or a freelancer, or work for someone else.

At LSBU, enterprise is part of everything we do. You’ll get a chance to develop practical skills and broaden your mind-set. We can help you to turn your ideas into a business or career.

We offer plenty of opportunities including inspiring talks from successful entrepreneurs, start-up schemes, help with making money out of your ideas and internships in start-ups and SMEs.

Supporting your ideasOur Student Enterprise Team is a one-stop shop for advice about starting up a business and keeping it going. Support is available to you during your studies and after graduating. We also organise enterprise internships, giving you the chance to gain experience of working in a small start-up.

Our Spark Scheme can help you to test an idea. You could receive up to £500 of funding, office space, mentoring and guidance. Our Graduate Entrepreneur Scheme is a 12 month programme providing access to office space, funding and support to take your business to the next level after you’ve graduated.

Investment in enterpriseWe’ve recently invested £10 million in the new Clarence Centre, home to the University’s Research, Enterprise and Innovation team, student entrepreneurs, businesses and social enterprises and services for the local community. The Centre offers high-quality fully serviced offices for fledgling businesses and social enterprises, event facilities and retail space. It also includes a Business Solutions Centre and a Legal Advice Clinic, staffed by students, which both serve the local community. The Business Solutions Centre and Legal Advice Clinic give students a chance to engage with the local community and develop their skills by providing advice and support to local businesses and individuals.

The Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) offers a variety of exceptional opportunities including Mandarin lessons, scholarships to study in China, wellbeing activities (including acupuncture and massage) and a range of cultural events. Participating in these events will enable students to enhance their cultural awareness and develop a unique set of international skills. This guarantees to provide students and graduates with the extra edge required to succeed in today’s competitive job market. One of the most exciting opportunities is the annual ‘Summer in China Study Trip’ which

provides students with the opportunity to spend a summer in China. Whilst in China the majority of expenses (including accommodation, transportation, 3 meals a day and mandarin tuition fees) are covered by a generous scholarships provided by the Confucius Institute. This is an opportunity not to miss! At LSBU’s Open Day CITCM’s professional performance team will be showing off China’s culture by displaying colourful performances of martial arts, dance and music. There will also be a stall where you can learn more about CITCM’s activities and write your name in Chinese!
