long connection to music.

series of classes in this 4-year program that allows any community member the

Through a shared repertoire of familiar songs, students will learn simple pieces

that they can perform with community and family members. Through several

levels of choral ensembles, students can learn and develop technique as they

become performing musicians. Choral training is enhanced as members from the

choirs combine to form a community choir. The Ravinia Lawndale Community

Choir is the performing ensemble of the Family Choral Program.

Conservatory (Advanced Students)

Admitted by audition, students participate in small group classes where they

cultivate the fundamentals learned in the Family Instrumental and Choral

Commitment

We look forward to helping you develop your love and enjoyment of music.

Learning to play an instrument takes a lot of dedication and hard work, but is

also very rewarding and fun. We are excited that you are a part of our family!

Attendance

Being on time and attending every lesson is an essential part of learning to sing

or play an instrument. Students should plan to arrive 10 minutes before the start

of class.

Absences - 3 excused absences per term are allowed. Excused absences are

under the discretion of the instructor. Excused absences include; illness, school

activity and family obligations. A minimum 1 week notice must be given to the

instructor.

Unexcused absences are not allowed. An unexcused absence is considered

missing a lesson without notifying your instructor, arriving to class more than

10 minutes late, or any absence outside of what is accepted for an excused

absence.

Tardiness - 3 tardies per term are allowed. You are considered tardy up to 10

minutes after the scheduled lesson time. After 10 minutes, it will be considered

an unexcused absence.

You will receive a probation letter from the Family Music School after 3 tardies

or 3 excused absences and after 2 unexcused absences. You will be dismissed

from the program with any additional absences or tardies.

Practice

Being prepared for your lesson and practicing is a requirement of the program.

Tips for practicing that will help you excel:

Practice everyday

Practice for shorter periods of time (10-15min)

Set aside a specific time for practice

Set goals for your practice time

Create a practice log

Practice with a family member or fellow student
