The European Union (EU) has been present in Nigeria for over 40 years supporting the government and the people in promoting hu-man rights, economic and social development efforts as well as developing trade, political and cultural relations between Nigeria and Europe. The EU Delegation to Nigeria is also responsible for relations with ECOWAS and the management of an important development coop-eration portfolio which covers the countries of the ECOWAS region. This however, has not translated into solid gains for the rights of women and chil dren especially in the Northern States of Nigeria. Specific socio economic and cultural prejudices continue to be used to undermine women’s adequate and effective representation in all tiers of Government.

The specific objective of this assignment is to improve the visibility of projects funded by the EU in Nigeria by focusing on the impact of EU interventions in promoting women’s rights, engagement and participation in Peace and Stability in Northern Nigeria. This en-gagement is expected to strengthen the outreach to citizens, key stakeholders and, to actively encourage a broadened interest among existing target audiences in the EU policies; while finding the means to increase the interest among new target audiences. Diginervz Media Ltd, the contractor for this project led by Mr. Ochai Samuel, the Lead Photographer, has been successful in its role towards achieving the objectives of the assignment in six States1 in Northern Nigeria by capturing clear images and short contextual interviews of beneficiaries under the following EU supported programmes:

1. EU Support to Scale-Up Maternal and New Born Child Health Outcomes for States in Northern Nigeria (EU-MNCH)

2. EU Support to Immunisation Governance in Nigeria (EU-SIGN)

3. Strengthening Community-Based Psychosocial Support and Protection Services for Children and Adolescents in Bornu State, Nigeria

4. Promoting Women’s Engagement in Peace and Stability in Northern Nigeria

The images captured largely depict the expressions of beneficiaries and the impact of the EU’s intervention in their lives, providing a graphic context for story telling about the EU’s efforts in the target states.

These images will be used for web-content to illustrate and enhance articles and reports.

Also, they will be showcased in future EUD Nigeria exhibitions thus increasing the visibility of the EU’s efforts, highlighting the role of the EU as a global actor, providing insight into its work and interest among its stakeholders.
