One
of the greatest blessings we receive as we are on furlough is the hospitality ofChristians as they share
of
themselves
and
their homes
with
us .
We
are
grateful
to the
many
who have thus
shared
with
us .
We
are
grateful to the many, too, who have expressed their concern for us, especially to our living link churches for
their concern fo r
ou r
financial welfare in the unstable condit ion of the dollar and the continuing inflation. We
thank
you
wh o
have
I nc re as ed o u r support.
As many of you have already been told and you will notice on the letterhead, we have new Forwarding A-
gents since the first ofNovember We are eternally grateful to Richard and Margaret Saevre for their faith
fulness in taking care of this work for us, and we appreciate Roger and
Beryl
Johnson for their willingness

over
In many ways this has been one of the
busiest
short furloughs we have had, and it seems
it
was
certainly
God s dealing that we take
it
at this lime as Ethel was able to help he r mother when she
most
needed her.
Ethel s youngest sister, Stella, who has been handicapped since birth, had become too much for her eighty-
four
year
old mother to care f or h er . Consequently, she has been admitted into a fine nursing home and Mom

Re jo ice in
the
Lord
always,
Philippians
4:4
In oar last
letter
we
spoke
of rejoicing over the progress that
was made
here
while
we were on furlough
last
year.
In the three months s ince our
return in
January we have had
many
things over
which
to rejoice
and
give
us great hope for the future of th e
church
in Japan.
1.
I n J anuar y we
spoke of
th e
women of
Ethel s Bible Class at tending church .
S in ce t he n
their
friends
have
also
come through
their
invitation,
2. We
have
seen the result of one
woman s quiet tes timony
through her Christian living
in
the non-Christian
family
of
her
son. Recently
her
daughter-in-law began
attending
church because
as
sh e
told
Ethel sh e
saw the
difference
in
the attitude
and way of thinking of
her mother- in-law.
3.
The
Church here has
begun
regular
support
of a home missionary.
Mr.
Koji Ueyama, a 1979 gradu
ate
of
Osaka Bib le Seminary, and
his wife, Koto, moved
in March to
Tanabe City to
work with
Vivian
Lemmon in
Lemmon House,
The purpose of Lemmon House
is
to
reach
out to troubled
young people
and le ad th em
to Ch r i s t
a nd in to th e c h u r c h
4. The new school
y ea r in Osaka
Bible
Seminary
opened with
three
new s tu de nts : M is s Sachiko

f rom
th e
Sannobara Church near
Yokohama,
Mr. K az uh is a Yoshida from th e
Yokosuka
Church
south of
Tokyo and Miss Kaori
Nii ro f rom
the Daito Church east of
Osaka.
Mis s N ii ro is the daughter of Mr. &
Mrs . Kenji N iiro , alum ni of
Osaka
Bibl e Semina ry. She makes th e second
child
of
a
a lumnus to
at tend
_ _

Seminary. E thel t eaches
an
Overview of
the
Old
Testament
to these
three
new s tudents and George --
is
teaching
an
exegesis of Romans and Corinthians this term which ends in
July.
5. We continue to se e
the
results of t each ing Sunday Schoo l, not only in our
own
work as we
have
seen in
some
of the
women
who
are coming
to
Bible classes and
church
here, but i n r epor ts we
receive
from
our fellow missionaries.
Carolyn Barricklow told
of a young woman who
was bapt ized
in
Hiroshima
recently
as a result of going to Bible School as a child. On Easter Sunday,
Audrey
West told of three
young women baptized there who had been attending Mrs. Ohta s class throughout the
years.
Truly, as
we plant and water
God
will g ive the increase even though we may no t always see it ourselves.
6. Jenann
left
for a furlough this month, leaving a big hole in the Sunday School and
Seminary library here.
She hopes to study some
library
science while
there
and
must raise
more support to come back. We
ask that you keep
her
especially on your pr aye r l is t,
7.
Please
pray for the All
Japan
Convention
to
be
held
in
Hokkaido,
for th e Rrs t
t ime.
The
dates
are
August
1-3
for the
Japanese
section and the 4th and the 5th
fo r
the
English
speaking section.
Thank you
and may God bless you.
