ACADEMIC I NTERNSHIP

The UVM Morgan Horse Farm Apprentice Pro-

gram has a long history. 220+ apprentices

having completed the program since its in-

ception in 1971. This program offers unique

hands-on experience in a traditional appren-

ticeship learning format for individuals looking

to go into the equine or animal science indus-

tries, and those horse-lovers who cannot get

enough time around these magnificent ani-

mals. Apprentices work hard during this intern-

ship, and the invaluable skills and strengths

they develop benefit them long after they

leave the farm.

Apprentices live on the farm for a year term,

consisting of about four months at each of

the three management stations of the 40-60

horse herd of UVM Morgans.

On the job training methods offer a practical

approach invaluable to the acquisition of

skills in animal husbandry.

Apprentices are paid a small living stipend,

utilities & wifi included with on-farm housing.

Apprenticeship

Through the University of Vermont College

of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the intern-

ship offers academic credit for a 6 month

term, (spring or fall semester).

The spring semester focuses on equine re-

production, while the fall semester focuses

more on training young horses.

Interns live on the farm & are paid a small

stipend. Utilities & wifi included with on-farm

housing.
