1.What is a Sentence?A sentence is a group of words which makes complete sense.

A sentence consists of S + V + O

Eg: Ram eats fruits

Definition:-

Subject is the thing or person talked about in a sentence.

Eg:-

Verb – (V)

Definition:-

Verb is a word or phrase expressing sentence, action or occurrence.

Eg:- They have been painting the house.

Complement – C

It is a word or phrase that completes the

meaning of a sentence. Usually it follows ‘be’

form verbs.

(is/am/are/was/were) or become.

Object – O

It is a word towards which the action of a verb is directed.

It is divided into 2 types

Direct Object - DO

Indirect - IO

Adjunct - A

Definition:-

The adjunct is an addition to a sentence. Its addition or

removal does not affect the sense greatly. It provides answers to

the questions

Where?

Why?

1. He walks slowly

(How ? Slowly)

2. He went to Calcutta.

(Where ? – Calcutta)

3. My father came yesterday.

(When ? – Yesterday)

4. The team sat in the hotel to eat.
