BELGIUM - The Kingdom of Belgium is a federal monarch in Western Europe in an area of 11,787 square miles with a population of approximately 11 million. It is home to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speaking, mostly Flemish community in the north and the French-speaking, mostly Wal-loon population in the south. Brussels, the capital, is a bilingual region and is mostly French-speaking within the Flemish (Dutch) sector. The country is host to the European Union headquar-ters as well as the highly important NATO headquarters. Belgium joined the International Associa-tion Lions Clubs in 1952 and the Bruxelles Center Lions Club is the oldest club.
