Chaplain’s Corner: Candlelight

One candle alone is a fragile, flickering light. When millions share their candles, the light becomes a beacon of hope.

In these winter days and nights there is so much darkness around us and sometimes in us. We need to find outer and inner lights to brighten our way through winter.

For many, putting electric candles in the windows is a way to share a spirit of hope and courage during the darkest time of the year. Others light candles on their dinner tables, in their family rooms and in their houses of worship.

Recently, after major tragedies we’ve experienced hundreds of friends and strangers gathering together with candles and songs to light the night and lift the heart. Flickering lights shared by many do indeed become shining beacons of hope.

And this holds true not just for external lights, but more importantly, for the inner light given to each of us. This is the time, now is the day, let your light shine brightly.

The Quality ZoneMission Lifeline – Improved Outcomes for Heart Attack Patients

TheSTEMIprojectoriginallybeganasaSixSigmaprojectinthespringof2012.TheresultingSTEMITaskForceisamultidisciplinary team that meets on a monthly basis. We review patients who have been transported through our ED to

other facilities for further treatment of their heart attack or chest pain. We participate in the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) program in order to provide the best possible care for our patients. We are constantly working in partnership with our ED, providers at Baystate Medical Center and EMS to achieve our goals. These include obtaining an EKGwithin10minutesofarrival,administeringtheclot-bustingdrugTNKwithin30minutesofarrival,andtransportingour patients to Baystate within 45 minutes of arrival.

Our greatest accomplishment thus far resulted from the hard work of an amazing team in our ED this past August. Dear Fellow BHS Colleagues:

As we reflect on this past year, we are thankful that all who live and work in the Berkshires and surrounding region can be confident that the care they receive at Berkshire Health Systems is second to none. This would not be possible without your consistent commitment to excellence and the hard work of each and every department at Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, the Berkshire VNA & Hospice and our physician practices.

BMC’s ranking as a 100 Top Hospital by Truven Health Analytics and as recipient of another Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence and Fairview Hospital’s third straight Leapfrog Top Rural Hospital honor are validation of our consistent high quality care, on par with the best hospitals in the country. Many other independent health ranking organizations also tell us that the care we provide across our continuum is of the highest quality. These national recognitions flow from the principle that our community deserves nothing but the best care possible, every hour of every day.

During this festive time of year, we want to thank you for your continued commitment to exceptional care and to wish you and your loved ones the Happiest of Holiday Seasons and all of the best for 2015. For those in our BHS community who are also members of the United States military or who have family members serving across the globe, we thank you for your service and sacrifice for our country and wish you a safe and Happy Holiday.

Thank you for your dedication to our patients and our community and enjoy this season with your family, friends and co-workers.

Sincerely,

Holiday Message
