We are looking for students in Grade 1-3 who love to build, explore and design! The focus of Primary STEM club is to encourage students to think critically about their world. Each month we will focus on a particular structure, explore its properties and overcome weekly building challenges. We will explore what elements are important to these structures/objects and discover how we can design those items using a mix of everyday, recyclable, as well as conventional building items.

To determine the best time to offer this program, please complete the survey at http://bit.ly/PrimarySTEMclub by Thursday October 30th, 2014.

Kids Learning Code (ages 9-12) Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Is the kid in your life interested in making new connections? This workshop will introduce key concepts of electricity and circuits, how physical switches work, and the basics of Arduino and programming for interactivity. Using a variety of materials combined with Makey Makey, kids will be introduced to advanced concepts of microcontrollers and designing physical interfaces. Through hands-on circuit building, and creative investigations of conductivity, each kid will gain the understanding and practical knowledge of physical computing needed to continue learning on their own and at advanced workshops. If your child in interested, you can register at http://www.eventbrite.ca/e/kids-learning-code-ages-9-12-circuits-and-code-toronto-tickets-12772293273?aff=erelexporg

Lice Checks We are fortunate to have the Bessborough Child Care Centre fund two lice checks a year for our students. The first check will be on Monday October 27th. The second check will be determined at a later date.

iPad apps As we continue to grow in the area of technology, we will share some of the apps that we currently use and have installed in our iPads. Different apps will be used for different grades and different subjects based on what students are doing, what type of product we want to see, and how we want students to share their thinking. Here are just a few to get you started. Take a look in iTunes to learn more about these apps. Some of these may be available on Google Play as well.
