From the desk at T Bar…March 30th, 2014 will mark the 10th Anniversary of the “Best of the Breeds” bull sale. For the past nine years, this group of breeders have supplied the Parkland region with herd improving sires adding value for all who selected their bulls at “Best of the Breeds.” As market trends changed, these young breeders (after all these years they would say they are seasoned breeders) adapted and improved their programs using the latest genetics to supply the best product available. The bulls selling are selected from the top of each program, produced especially for this sale, none sold prior or picked over, so that you are assured of the fi nest quality and selection. The “Best of the Breeds” bull sale is a one-stop shopping event. It combines the most sought after breeds by feeders and packers. The Continental breeds through Charolais, Simmental and Gelbvieh will add performance and pounds at weaning, while the British side through Red and Black Angus add calving convenience, marbling, carcass values and their famous maternal characteristics. All bulls are ranch raised, grown out on a high roughage diet in an effort to have your purchase sound and long-lasting. Since all the breeders use A.I. in their programs, you are assured of selecting from the most current genetic combinations available. The bulls are semen tested and veterinary inspected to assure soundness and fertility; due to the proximity of the breeders, if there is a bull wreck in the pasture, they are as close as your telephone. We have entered a new era in the livestock industry...an exciting era where high profi t margins are endowed on every producer who weathered the past ten years of stagnation. The North American cow herd must be restocked with young, highly productive females, but since gestation remains at nine months, this rebuilding phase will not occur over-night. Even with the impending shortage of slaughter cattle, we must start thinking maternal, therefore study or view the mothers of the bulls you purchase. Since these breeders are in your local area, visit their farms, view the bulls in their natural environment and see their mothers...it will be well worth it in years to come. If time does not permit a farm visit, do not hesitate to call any of the breeders and ask them about the bulls, their mothers and your requirements...they will give you an honest assessment. The “Best of the Breeds” sale is an event that everyone should attend and add a bit of extra added value to one`s program. Come early and view the bulls...the ladies host a marvelous noon lunch complete with refreshments. Those who pick up their purchases sale day receive a special discount, so bring your trailer.Plan to be with us at Parkland for this tenth anniversary. If we, at T Bar C, may be of assistance, prior to or sale day, feel free to give Ted, Shane or myself a call, we will be pleased to assist you with your selections.Chris Poley

Dogpatch Acres Charolais Well the 10th annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale has

seen a complete 180° turn a far as the cattle industry goes. It is an exciting time to be a cattle producer. This year is the fi rst in a long time that we have been excited

to see our cattle cheques, with plenty of calves topping the $1,000.00 mark!

As you recall, last winter started early and dragged on and on. Our calves were about 5 to 8 lbs larger than previous years right across the board, however did not cause any calving issues. I believe this is attributed to better quality feed and a lot more of it last winter.

We are very pleased to have on offer an exceptional pen of bulls this year. Most are sired by the Agribition Champion PCC Sudden Impact. His calves offer length, depth and performance while maintaining calving ease. We have a few bulls off Pleasant Dawn Rio 136X. This bull is versatile and can be used on cows and heifers. He offers calving ease and the performance we demand. There are also a few calves sired by bulls new to our herd.

All the calves were weaned and weighed on October 22, 2013. The cows spent the summer at John Perrot’s at Naicam. I want to thank him for managing our herd this summer and his expertise shows in our calf crop.

Lastly, we stand behind our bulls. If there is a problem, we are there to remedy the situation. We are thankful for your continued support and will work hard to ensure you are happy with your purchase.

Moderate, thick, and deep best describe this quiet son of 104Y. Here’s a bull that will be awesome on some good red females. Look at that low birth weight. Easy calving for sure!
