Cherbourg in France in france

Cherbourg, contrary to the romantic picture painted of it in Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, a 1964 Jacques Demy film, is of little interest to the tourist except as the entry point to France when taking the ferry from England or Ireland. Napoléon rather grandly claimed that he would "recreate the wonders of Egypt " in Cherbourg, but there is more evidence of large docks and naval bases in the town than pyramids.

Vimy memorial in france

France deemed the area surrounding the monument, about 1 km², to be Canadian territory in 1922, as an expression of gratitude to the Canadian people for their sacrifice during the war and for capturing Vimy Ridge in April 1917.

Montparnasse Tower in france

This ominous stick is a blight on the landscape of the world's most stunning city. But there is one good reason to take in the view from its observation deck: it's the only place you can go to get a view of the city without it.

Torres De colon in Spain

Torres De colon, Madrid (Spain): Like a set of giant salt-and-pepper shakers, these towers loom overt the city. Also known as "El enchufe" or "The Plug" for the plug-like structure that holds them together.

Puerta del sol in Spain

The large plaza called Puerta del Sol is Madrid’s historical center. There is even a small metal plaque embedded on one of the plaza’s streets marking Madrid’s Km. 0, the point from which all of Madrid’s major streets begin, as well as the starting point of Spain’s four national roads

El prado museum in Spain

The Prado Museum was built between 1785 and 1819 to house the Spanish royal family’s art collection. Despite the massive size of the Prado, which takes up the equivalent of about two city blocks, it was not nearly big enough to house a collection of such epic proportions

Krakow in Poland

Krakow is one of the oldest and largest cities in Poland. It is in the south of the country and the River Vistula runs through it. It has a population of about 800000 people. A Polish classmate of ours in TKK tells us that Krakow is NOT pronounced as K-RA-COW.. but should be pronounced as K-RA-COU.. It is common also to spell it as Cracow.

Ouarazazate in Morocco

Ouarzazate is one of the best points of departure to discover the kasbahs and the Sahara in Morocco. You’ll depart for Tinghir, traveling the rugged Road of a Thousand Kasbahs that rise up like turreted sand castles along this ancient caravan trading route.

Morocco Sahara in Morocco

Heading west (and from Ouarzazate), you will arrive in Tinghir, overlooked by an impressive kasbah. Tinghir is the ideal departure point to visit the Todra gorges whose impressive walls can be up to 300 m in height. As you continue along your route, you will reach Boulmane and its Tizzarouine kasbah, at the crossroads of the gorges and the Dades valley, also known as the "valley of 1000 kasbahs"
