Overview 2014

Once more an eventful year - 2014draws to a successful closure andit is time for a retrospection of the

year gone by, an insight into the plethoraof activities and involvement of thestudents of our school, both in the world ofacademics and in spheres outsideacademics.

True to the past records of theschool, the students of Bidya Bharati Girls’High School have again prove theiracademic excellence in both theMadhyamik and Higher SecondaryExamination in the year 2014.

261 students appeared for theMadhyamik Pariksha. Out of them 251secured 1st Division and 43 scored above90% which is remarkable. The jointholders of the highest aggregate wereDebadrita Samajar and Debjani Halder,both securing 660 marks (94.28%).

The performance of the girls wasoutstanding even in the Higher SecondaryExaminations. Out of the 118 students inthe Science Stream who appeared for theexams., 115 secured the 1st Division and63 scored star marks (75%). Ruparna Dasscored the highest aggregate in Science,439 (87.8%). Out of the 32 girls in the Artsstream who appeared for the exams, 28secured 1st Division and 3 got star marks(75%). The highest aggregate for Arts, 418(83.6%) went to Alipsa Sarkar. Out of 20girls in the Commerce stream who

appeared, 17 secured 1st Division and 4out of them secured star marks. UditaChatterjee scored the highest aggregate,394 (78.8%).

Looking back at the eventful year2014, we find the school calender dottedwith important day celebrations.Academics apart, the students of theschool actively participated in all eventslike intra-school and inter-schoolcompetitions, displaying their talent inmany ways.

On January 07, 2014, at the veryoutsight, a Reading Competition wasorganized by the Ananda Bazar Patrika.Amongst the participants, Prakriti Seth ofClass XC got the 1st position, MaitreyeeUpadhyay of Class VIII B the 2nd positionand Swagata Laxmi Goswami of Class XG the 3rd position. Actor Abir Chatterjeewas present at the event as the ChiefGuest.

On January 09, 2014 an educationaltour of class XI to Narendrapur for aBiology project followed by a picnic atIBIZA, was organised by the school.

In the same month, on January 26,the Republic Day Celebrations were held.The day was observed as Service Day bythe students of class XI who donatedgenerously and served food packets to thedestitutes with love and compassion. [Theday was observed by flag-hoisting, singingpatriotic songs]. The National Flag was

hoisted, patriotic songs were sung by theteachers and students.

The YOUTH CONVENTION, aprogramme to mark the completion of the150th Birth Celebration of SwamiVivekananda, was held on January 29 andJanuary 30 and attended by 6 girls ofClass XI (Commerce Section).

On January 30 both Martyrs’ Dayand the Foundation Day of the NationalLibrary were jointly observed. A QuizCompetition was arranged to mark theoccasions. The position of 2nd runners-upwas secured by Prakriti Seth, ProgyaGhosh, Upasana Ghose, Manjira Yadavand Irene Talukdar.

Saraswati Puja was celebrated withthe usual pomp by the teaching and non-teaching staff, assisted by the students.The theme of the puja this time was IndianWomen blessed by Devi Saraswati, theGoddess of Learning. Our Chief Guestswho graced the occasion were Dr. SwapnaRoy, Professor of Vivekananda College forWomen (HOD, Bengali), Mrs. Arora andMiss. Gajalaxmi, Assistant Librarian andInformation Officer.

Friends F.M. 91.9 organized an inter-school Quiz programme in which DonBosco and M. P. Birla were the schoolsthat bagged the 1st and 2nd positions,respectively. The 3rd Position was takenby Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School,jointly represented by Sunayana Sarkarand Ankita Bhattacharya of Class XII(Afternoon Science).

“Hey Chira Nutan”, a musicalrendition combined with display ofdancing skills, enthusiastically performedby the girls of Class X on July 11, 2014 tocommemorate the Birth Anniversary of

great poet Rabindranath Tagore.A Tribute was paid to the great poet

and composer Kazi Nazrul Islam,subsequently, to mark his BirthAnniversary, with a musical recital and aquiz on Najrul Islam. An ElocutionCompetition was also held on theoccasion.

On July 24 and 31 respectively, thestudents of Class IX and Class VIIIdisplayed their House performance. Thetheme chosen by the girls of Class IX wasEnvironment Protection, a programmeperformed housewise. Class VIII put upPuppet shows displayed by each House.

On July 27 an Inter-school EssayCompetition was arranged at R. K. MissionVidyalaya, Narendrapur, Kol-7001003.The 3rd prize for the English Essay Pre-senior group went to Shohini Mondal ofClass VII and the 2nd prize for BengaliEssay Senior Group was bagged by AdrijaDas of Class IX and for the English EssaySenior Group by Deboleena Das of ClassIX.

Independence Day was celebratedon Aug. 15 with a lot of fervour and zealon the part of the students. Yet anotherexcellent display of project work wasmade by them. The theme this time wasAnanda Math : The Dawning ofNationalism. Our honourable guests onthis occasion were Dr. Rita Chowdhury,Professor of Ancient History, CalcuttaUniversity, Dr. Lakshmi Subramaniyam,Professor and Educationist and Dr. RamKumar Mukhopadhyay, RegionalSecretary of Sahitya Academy.

of Culture from Sept. 2 to Sept. 5, 2014.Teachers’ Day was observed on

Sept. 5 by the girls with great enthusiasmand deep reverence for their teachers.The occasion was highlighted by thePuppet shows that were staged by ClassVIII.

On Sept. 27, 2014 Annual PrizeDistribution Ceremony of the school washeld. This marked the end of an eventfulyear as school closed for the AutumnBreak.

As we step into the 50th Anniversaryof the school this year, 2015, we feelproud to think that the dreams of ourfounder have been realised ......

The concluding message to ourstudents would be a reminder to start newventures, to face new challenges and toovercome new obstacles.
