Together We Can! Binfields Farm Lane, Chineham, Basingstoke RG24 8AJ 01256 460532 Great Binfields Primary School Newsletter No. 22 14th July 2020 www.greatbinfields.co.uk Dear Parents/Carers, We trust you have enjoyed reading the reports and find- ing out your childs new class teacher. The reports were very different to normal. We havent written about where your child is at in terms of end of year expectations (e.g. on-track, above etc). This is because it is really difficult to know accurately and with any meaning. Well be working hard to fill in gaps from September. Thank you also for your report feedback—it is really helpful. Please do re- spond if you haven't done already. We are looking forward to receiving your childs communi- ty piece of learning to share with their existing and new classteacher. Please refer to our weekly planning and email regarding this. With regards to September, you will realise, we have a lot of issues to solve and it is important we consider all of these and make sure we have robust risk assessments in place. We have every confidence we can do this and will aim to give you further details before the pupils finish for the summer. We appreciate your patience and support as we look forward to the next phase of returning to some form of normality. As usual, we will get there by working together and keeping the welfare of our pupils at the heart of all we do. Finally, thank you for your kind words and generosity – whatever the size – as you say thank you to the staff in different ways. We real- ly appreciate it. Take care everyone, Jules Rogers, HT Goodbye Year 6 Next week we will be saying goodbye to our cracking Year 6 pupils—we are going to miss you all lots. It has been a rather disrupted end to their time with us and this has im- pacted on some of their normal end of GBP school journey activi- ties which is upsetting for them and also really sad for us. We have been very proud of how they have coped throughout this period and the vast majority of them have taken everything in their stride. We are going to miss them all a great deal! As they reflect and look back on their whole time at Great Binfields I do hope they hold many happy memories of the experi- ences they have encountered and the people they have met. When they become adults I hope they share these with feelings of happiness and relive these with a few giggles too! Our Year 6 staff team have put togeth- er a virtual assembly which we hope is not too big to upload on to our website. Thank you to Mrs Lowe for doing a lovely virtual assembly—some lovely messages and some great quotes. We hope you cherish your bundle of good- ies Y6. Good luck and dream big Y6! Sports Update Thank you to all of you for participating in our virtual Sports Events last week. Lots of our commu- nity have said they really enjoyed it. We have now closed the count and have the results in. Did we manage to virtu- ally get from one end of the country to another—from Lands End to John OGroats? Of course we did - we smashed it!! The whole school total was 3118 miles so we got there and back and nearly got to John OGroats again!!!!!! A fantastic achievement everyone! Our staff and governors had a combined total of 675 miles so its not surprising that our children thrashed us with a whopping 2443 miles. Our childrens whole school average was 5.8 miles each. A massive well done to you all! Now for the Virtual Sports Eventswhich event did you do the best in?? Which team is going to win this year?? The whole school total points was 54492.5. Congratula- tions to Green Team who came first with 17574 points. In second was Yellow Team with 14560. 3rd was Red with a score of 11691 and 4th this year was Blue Team with 10667.5 points. I will make sure that our trophy has green ribbons on it ready for you all to see in September. This weeks theme is Community. So many people believe we have such a super school community and I couldn't agree more. I feel hon- oured and proud to be part of our school community and I hope you feel proud to be part of it too. Even through this strange times, I feel that we have pulled together and I cant wait until September when we can all be together again. Green Team 2020

Learning Together, Achieving Forever!

Values Tree – Can you remember our blue luggage labels on our ‘Values Tree’ in our hall? Our children in school all have a copy of our values tree in their trays as we can not have whole school assemblies at the moment. Which value have you been practicing lots at home lately? If you had to give yourself a blue luggage label, what positive things would you write on it? I have not popped all of the values on my paper ver-sion —which ones have I missed?

Some parents/carers have said that their children’s mood swings

have been hard to manage at times. It is only natural that our children get cross and get

moody—just like we do at times! Have something close to hand that they have previously en-

joyed doing so when you can see a shift in their mood approaching,

you can use it as a distraction tactic. It only need last for 10-15

minutes. Cartoon drawing, pop on their favourite music, look through old photos, a garden game, junk modelling, ring a fami-ly member, go for a walk/bike ride or play a quick card game.

Bunny updates Have you seen our bunny updates on our website? https://www.greatbinfields.co.uk/bunny-updates/ Bluebell and Buttercup have been supervising the crea-tion of our Year 6 Leavers’ video assembly and are sad that they will not get cuddles from our current Year 6 before they go to secondary school. They wish you all luck and hope to say goodbye when you visit next week. Both are looking forward to their summer holidays and are currently choosing which staff house they are glamping in. They are very much looking forward to the new Year 6 moving up in September.

Welcome aboard—New staff at GBP In September we welcome 3 new LSAs to GBP all of whom have had super experi-ences of working with children. We are excited about you starting and we hope that you are incredibly happy working at our lovely school. Mrs Tomkins will be working with our incredible Year 1 children, some of you will recognise her as she is a member of our school community. Miss Hunt (yep another Miss Hunt in our school) is assist-ing alongside our super Year 2s and she used ot be a swimming teacher. Mrs Lowe is moving from Christchurch to work with us at Great Binfields and she is going to be supporting in Year 4. I am sure that our children and staff will make them feel very welcome. See you in September!

Community Wordle Look at the example below. What other words would you put into our school community wordle?

Perhaps you could create one for your family com-munity too? Or you could create a word cloud. Here is a link: https://worditout.com/word-cloud/create

Nursery Rhymes and Stories We have a new section on our website for our youngest children and it contains our staff introducing themselves and they also share some of their favourite nursery rhymes. These are the links: https://www.greatbinfields.co.uk/meet-the-early-years-team/ and https://www.greatbinfields.co.uk/rhymes-songs-and-stories/ What’s your favour-ite nursery rhyme? How many can you remem-ber? Can you teach your younger siblings some nursery rhymes? Some of them have originated in a time of ad-versity like ‘ring a ring of roses’. Do you know the story behind this rhyme? Perhaps you could find out if you do not know. Early nursery rhymes From the mid-16th century they begin to be recorded in English plays. "Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man" is one of the oldest surviving English nursery rhymes. The earliest recorded version of the rhyme appears in Thomas d'Urfey's play The Campaigners from 1698.

The next rhyme has been needed recently!

Rain, rain, go away Come again another day

Come again another day Mommy wants to play Rain, rain, go away Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day Brother wants to play Rain, rain, go away Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day All the family wants to play

Rain, rain, go away

FOR A LIMITED PERIOD ONLY…… Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper, an interactive sensory story narrated by Liz Davies– Hampshire Music Service! https://youtu.be/VHGouUdPyCc Please check with your family before clicking on this link.

This is something that Liz Davies from Hampshire Music Service has put together and fits perfectly with our theme of community this week. They have been given permission by Penguin Publishing to share this video with Hampshire schools but not to share it publicly so sadly can't go on our website. It will be available until 31 July 2020. You will need to collect some resources to use during the telling of the story; which are all detailed at the beginning of the clip and will be used as the story unfolds. It lasts around for 22 minutes unless you are stopping it to continue enjoying the embedded activities, and ex-plores a range of music, sounds, chants, rhythms and even a little snack break in the middle!

Pumpkin Soup FINAL

and share it all with friends, family, and the
