S.Ramana Murthy
Summary of my Research Contributions
1. I have completed M.Sc Physics (Materials Science) in 1974 with first
division with distinction and Ph.D (Materials Science) in 1978 from
Osmania University. In 1979 joined in OU as Asst. Prof. and elevated to
Professor Level in 1991.
2. Initially my research work has been focused on the ferrimagnetic
materials. My fundamental contribution to the field of ferrimagnetic
materials: are: for the first time we have investigated the temperature
and magnetic field dependence of elastic and anelastic behavior in the
neighborhood of Curie temperature on the mixed ferrites and garnets. A
new theoretical explanation has been provided with help of domain wall
dynamics. This work has been very much appreciated by Prof. Neel, a
Nobel laureate in physics and invited me to work with in his group as
post-doc at CNRS lab, Meudon Paris, France, in the year 1986
3. From the years 1982 to 2000, my research work was mainly
concentrated on the development new ferrites and magnetic materials
for various applications such as electromagnetic sensors, microwave
devices and, high frequency components. In this process, we have
developed many ferrites system such as Mn-Zn ferrites, Ni-Zn. Li-Zn, Co-
Zn ferrites, MgMn ferrites, NiCuZn ferries, MgCuZn ferrites, YIG , GdYIG,
-
Ni-Al, NiZn Co, etc( Thin films and bulk). This work on ferrimagnetic
materials has been well documented through more than 180
publications
4. During the years1989-1999, I had an opportunity to visit PTB, Germany
under DAAD fellow to work on high Tc superconducting materials.
During this visit many new High Tc superconducting materials were
developed for various applications. Total 10 papers were published.
5. We have started working on nanomaterials in the year 2000. A detailed
experimental studies were carried out on nanomagnetic materials to
understand the atomic architecture and nanostructure of these
materials using techniques such as; XRD, NMR, TEM etc. We have
developed novel nanomagnetic materials for many applications such as:
nano- silver for drinking water purification and TiO2 as a material for
visible photoreactions etc
6. My Original contributions to the field of hydrothermal processing
include the processing of nanophase ceramic materials and metal
powders. Ni, Pe, Pd, Pt, Co, Sn, BiS3. we have used a novel synthesis
method namely, microwave-hydrothermal process for faster, greener
and cheaper synthesis of ceramic powders of various unary, binary and
ternary compositions. These contributions led to over 20 refereed
publications in various reputed journals.
7. I have made seminal contributions in the magnetic materials field by
designing and synthesizing a series of new materials, including various
Nanocomposites. and published over 20 papers in the nanocomposites
area alone and received two patents on these materials which could
lead to significant energy savings. I have organized 4 symposia on Nano-
-
materials and “ Nanocomposite Materials” and has edited 2 chapter in
books on this topic.
I have developed and optimized desiccants for use in gas-fired cooling
and dehumidification equipment which use no environmentally
threatening refrigerants.
8. I have made original contributions in the field of nano- garnets, and
nano-composites for more than five years. We have prepared and
characterized many nano-ferrite systems for various applications such as
soundsensors, magnetosrtictive transducers, phase shifters, isolators,
memory core, microwave absorbers etc.
9. Recently our group working on alternative energy materials i.e particular
fuel cells and gas hydrates etc.
10. I have been consistently productive throughout my career and
published at the rate of about 10 publications per year in the last thirty
five years with a total of over 300 refereed publications.
11. I have attracted considerably large funding to support his research
programs with DST ( Six projects), New Delhi, UGC ( Two major projects
