Wherehavewebeen?

Thecampusandcentralofficeadministra4onrealizedthatparentshadmadesomevalidstatementsaboutaneedforafullreviewofallpoliciesandproceduresrela4ngtobullying.Therefore,thesuperintendentassignedtheemergencymanagementteamtoworkonacomprehensiveplantoaddresstheparents’concerns.

Adiversegroupofdistrictandcommunitymemberswereinvitedtopar4cipateinataskforceaddressingcurrentissuesregardingbullyingbroughttooura1en4on.Ourgoalwastodefine,iden4fybehaviors,discussposi4veresponsesanddevelopadistrictwidesystemtoprovideaclimateofchangebeginningwiththe2010‐11schoolyear.

Bullying(FromBISD’sCodeofConduct)

Bullyingmeansengaginginwri1enorverbalexpressionorphysicalconductthatschoolpersonneldetermine:

Willhavetheeffectofphysicallyharmingastudent,damagingastudent’sproperty,orplacingastudentinreasonablefearofharmtothestudent’spersonorofdamagetothestudent’spropertyorissufficientlysevere,persistent,orpervasiveenoughthattheac4onorthreatcreatesanin4mida4ng,threatening,orabusiveeduca4onalenvironmentforthestudent(TexasEduca4onCode25.0342).

Nostudentshallengageinanyformofbullying,norshallanystudentencourageorassistanyotherpersoninbullying.

•  Bullyingdoesnotincludenormalchildhoodbehaviorsuchassiblingrivalryorone‐on‐onefigh4ngofsiblingsorpeerswithcompe4ngclaims.

•  Nordoesitincludeactsofimpulsiveaggression‐inotherwords,aggressionthatisaspontaneous,indiscriminatestrikingout,withnointendedtarget.

•  Suchaggressioniso^enrelatedtoaphysicalormentalhandicap,suchasau4smorAsperger’ssyndrome(highfunc4oningau4sm),andmustnotbedismissedorexcused,butitisnotbullying.

•  Spontaneous,deliberate,indiscriminatestrikingoutalsomaybearesponsebyabulliedkidtoana1ackbyabully,butitisnotbullying.

Bullyingdoesnotincludecriminalac4vi4esthatmayhavebegunasaconflictandescalated.
