So goes another year of strong performance spiritually, academically and fi nancially at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. I am always pleased to be able to communicate such a positive message from our learning institutions.

The 2012-2013 school year saw great change as we welcomed a new president and a new principal that both joined us on July 1, 2013. I am grateful to the entire community that participated in the selection process that is allowing us to write the next chapter in our school’s history.

Students and families at Manogue are drawn to our commitment to educating through faith, leadership, knowledge and compassion. Participation in Quest and Kairos retreats continues to grow and the service our students perform in the community is continually being reported in the local press and via social media.

Manogue students continue to excel in all of their endeavors both here in Northern Nevada and across the country. I am excited each time I receive the Miner Messenger magazine and read about their accomplishments. Many continue to support the school with their time, talent and treasure and that is instrumental in our ability to maintain the tradition of excellence in academics and faith formation we have come to expect.

We saw the creation of the new Alumni Association, many reunions, homecoming, BASH, Green and Gold and other events this year. The momentum of great activity and support is increasing and it is because of the community we call Manogue. Thank you for all you do year in and year out that aids in sustaining this remarkable school.

message from the president

When I initiated my service as President of Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in July, I was excited about the opportunity to serve this great institution. Bishop Manogue has a unique sense of community among the students, teachers, alumni, and donors that doesn’t exist in all schools. There is a very strong foundation built from decades of tradition, love and devotion to the overall experience of Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. I am proud to report that the same commitment to strengthening and perpetuating Catholic education exists even today. This is evidenced by the incredible alumni and parent support that we receive. Our role in forming the hearts and minds of today’s youth is no less important than it was with the first graduating class of Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, in 1951.

I begin by thanking you for making the opportunity available by incorporating Bishop Manogue Catholic High School into the lives of your children. We are pleased to be the home for students and families living in 32 different zip code areas in Washoe County and surrounding communities. We are also pleased to enroll international students from three other countries.

Our college preparatory programs are inclusive to accommodate different types and abilities of learners. For students who may struggle in standard courses to students in Honors level courses, we stress encouraging each young student to work to their potential in order to prepare them for a successful life beyond Bishop Manogue Catholic High School.

In addition to our academic programs, our extracurricular activities are designed to engage students beyond the classroom. We offer athletics, vocal and instrumental music, art, language, and a variety of service-oriented clubs to meet the interests of our students. We encourage all students to be involved beyond the school day. This fall, over 75% of our students are participating in athletics and extracurricular activities.

Our Mission and Catholic identity define who we are. Modern times do not often afford young people the opportunity to truly learn and experience what is important and valuable in life. A Bishop Manogue Catholic High School education is deeply rooted in our Catholic culture and provides our students with daily opportunities to be empowered by Gospel values. We continue working on many projects to improve and expand our Campus Ministry Program. We have incorporated more “all school” masses into our 2013-2014 schedule.

When the doors opened on August 12, 2013 we greeted 621 students with a full freshman class. Late in August, we received our 2013 SAT and ACT scores and they continue to set the bar high in Northern Nevada as well as exceeding the state and national average test scores. Just like our graduation rates we continue to excel academically. We are also pleased to report that our area middle school “Preview Days” for potential Bishop Manogue students are full this year. This report defines in detail our overall financial performance, our continued efforts in reducing debt and our unending effort to provide financial aid to those most in need.

Bishop Manogue Catholic High School is pleased to present our 2012-2013 fi nancial statements. Please take a moment to review the information provided. The two pie charts provide a graphical presentation of the activities of the school for the year.

The 2012-2013 academic year was once again a refl ection of the ongoing improvement in our fi nancial performance at the school. We contribute our success to several factors including conservative budgeting, receipt of a large legacy gift, and strong enrollment.

As the result of a signifi cant legacy gift we allocated resources to develop tuition assistance and capital reserve funds. The balance was used to make a substantial payment against our debt. We continue to budget for and aggressively pay down our debt.

Having made the decision to establish reserve accounts for tuition assistance and capital expenditures, we were able to complete several upgrades to our school site and meet 100% of student need this year. This provides families great peace of mind knowing we are able to help in almost all cases.

The capital reserve fund enabled our IT department to remove & replace the existing UPS system. Additionally, we completed an assessment on all mechanical systems related to heating and air, cleaned the air handlers, as well as resealing the large school parking lot.

Facilities was able to completely restore our soccer pitch that had been deteriorating over the last several years. We were also able to replace a concrete discus pad, as well as install a memorial sign for the soccer fi eld in remembrance of Nancy Sweet.

For three consecutive years we have seen full freshman classes and are encouraged by the continued high enrollment in both our International and Integrated Learning Center Programs. The 2012-2013 school year also brought our fi rst full sophomore class as well. This growth in school enrollment is responsible for the increase in reported tuition revenues.

We continue to monitor the cost of education and the amount we charge for tuition. We are assessing strategic increases in tuition that address the gap between what it costs to educate one student and what families currently pay for tuition. There have been 3-5% increases in tuition since 2012 and those will occur each year to close the gap and charge what it costs to educate a student a Bishop Manogue Catholic High School.

We are grateful for the completed projects as well as for the increase in enrollment this year. We remain committed to ongoing strong fi nancial viability and continued success for the students, faculty and administration of Bishop Manogue Catholic High School.
