Principal’s Message

Term 2, Weeks 7 and 8

I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend with their families and everyone is ready for a busy few weeks

ahead. There is quite a lot on as we move towards the end of Term 2, with our whole school excursion, NAIDOC

events and athletics carnivals just to name a few.

During week 7, I had the privilege of attending an Extended Induction Beginning Principals Conference in

Sydney with fellow Principals who were all appointed for the first time in 2018. It was an absolute honour to spend

time with these small school Principals, discussing both similarities and uniqueness between our schools, It is also a

time where we celebrate the magnificent things happening in Public Education and especially in our small schools. It is

a credit to our small communities and the families that exist within them, that give Principals like myself the most

rewarding occupation in the world. I thank you for giving me your trust in working alongside yourself in shaping these

future minds.

Until next time, enjoy your weekend and I look forward to showcasing the many wonderful achievements of

our students.

Cross Country

On Friday 14th June, Darcy and Isabella represented the Quirindi Zone at Regional Cross

Country at Mullaley. Both students ran exceptionally well and should be very proud of themselves.

Darcy finished 43rd and Isabella came 51st, which are both commendable efforts considering some

age groups ran with over 70 students in them. Thanks to Mr Carter and the staff at Mullaley Public

School for hosting such a wonderful event.

P and C meeting

Parents and community members attended our P and C meeting on Wednesday 12th June.

Thank you to all those who could attend. There are lots of wonderful events coming up over the next

few months which will benefit our students. May I take this opportunity to thank all our members

who take such an active role in achieving wonderful results for our students. There are often many

contributions behind the scenes, but we certainly appreciate all that you do. If you would like to be a part of this small, but

dedicated group of men and women, please feel free to attend our next meeting on Thursday 8th August.

Healthy Food Talk

Chloe from Narrabri Health One travelled to our school on

Tuesday 18th June to speak to our students about the importance of

healthy eating. Over the years, we have gone from a food pyramid,

to food groups and now to three major groups we should be eating.

Students learnt that ‘Go’ foods are foods that give you energy and

are from the breads and cereals group. ‘Grow’ foods are important

for our body to grow in a healthy way and come from the meat and

diary food groups. “Glow’ foods are high in nutrients and help our

body to glow. They are important for glowing hair, eyes, skin etc.

Students spoke about the importance of these to have in their lunch

boxes each and every day. Please ensure students have a go, grow

and glow aspect every day to ensure their minds and bodies are

ready to learn.

Coffs Harbour excursion

Thank you to all those parents who have finalised payments for our whole school excursion to Coffs Harbour. Students and

staff are in high anticipation of the event, even though rain is predicted for the majority of it. Please ensure you label all of your

children’s clothing, pack a raincoat/umbrella and have plenty of warm clothes ready (no day with a temperature over 20 expected).

Thanks to those who have started bringing in food snacks for the trip. There is a container in the 2/3 classroom to store these.

Please remember to pack food for morning tea and lunch on the Monday and be ready by 7am so that we can leave on time.

A special thank you to Mrs Redgrove for all her planning in this excursion. It takes many weeks to plan and organise such an

event and we can’t thank her enough for all the work that she has put into it. Please make sure you pass on your gratitude if you

see her over the coming weeks.

Big Band Bash

What a magnificent experience it was for our 4/5/6 students as they travelled

into Quirindi on Wednesday 19th June to participate in the “Big Band Bash’ with

approximately 50 other students from surrounding schools in our area. Under the

tutelage of Mr Garrett and Mrs Davis, students engaged in a variety of songs, ranging in

difficulty from ‘Hot Cross Buns’ to ‘Havannah.’ Thank you to all our students for your

commitment to learning a musical instrument and for practising these each week.

Please continue doing so, especially in anticipation of the Opera House excursion, early

in Term 3. Special mention to Charlie who participated, having only picked up his

trombone again when he restarted at Blackville Public School a few weeks ago. Well

done!

School Payments

Invoices continue to be sent home for music and cooking, if you could pay these at your earliest convenience, that would be

greatly appreciated. Don’t forget the Lake Keepit excursion will be here before we know it, so it might be a good time to start

making contributions towards this, in order to make it more manageable.

Office Hours

Office hours are from 8:30am until 3:30pm Monday to Friday, with the exception of Wednesdays. On that day, we do not

have any staff in the office. Please feel free to come in during these times to make payments and if you have any questions. Our

office staff are more than happy to assist you. These are also our school hours, with no supervision of students before and after

these times. Please do not leave students at school outside these office hours for their own safety.
