A strong car count among many of the best short track driv- ers in the nation should equate into a great race. This is the last chance for them to get quality lap time in on the rugged old speed- way before the Grand- daddy race of them all. Becca Kasten from North Carolina and Cris Muhler from Colorado are 2 of the new faces competing tonight. (See Chuck Corder’s story on Becca Kasten inside.) The Snowball starting field from last year is on the back page. I f this is not enough then we’ll step out further. How about we crown a champion in the Super Stocks? This should really go down to the wire tonight as Bubba Winslow holds a slim 21 point lead over Randy Thompson. I f excitement is what you’re looking for, then you have come to the right place, because that’s just what you are going to get tonight. Five Flags Speed- way has got your “fix”. As you already know, this is the finale for the Buddy’s Home Furnishings “Blizzard Series” for the Super Late Models. That’s right, tonight will be the final race of the 5 race series and a champion for 2012 will be crowned. Georgia hotshoe Bubba Pollard has a comanding lead in points, and is the one to catch. I t will also guarantee two lucky drivers a spot in the 45th Annual Snowball Derby© in December. Any of the top ten in points after tonight that do not qualify fast enough on time to land a starting spot in the Derby are eligible for a provisional. This is a big ole THANK YOU from General Manager, Tim Bryant, for being loyal to the track and the Blizzard Series in 2012. Hope you got your Snowball tickets by now. A re you fans excited yet? How about DOUBLE POINTS in both the Sportsman and Bomb- ers for a night cap? Bran- non Fowler has enjoyed a comfortable lead in the Sportsman division for most of the year, but Steve Buttrick is charging hard and has managed to make up a lot of ground on Fowler the last few weeks. Only 32 points separate these two drivers and double points could mean everything. The same stands true for the Bombers between Gary Goodwin and second place Brandon Burks. T hese two divisions plus the Allen Turner Hyun- dai Pro Late Models and Modifieds will highlight the Whataburger “Night of Champions” next Saturday at 7pm which wraps up the 2012 regular season. E nough for now; Buy a chance for the Ya Yas gift baskets (the ladies with the pink hair), and support their campaign to beat breast cancer. Last SLM race for 2012 before Snowball Derby

Page 1: Blizzard Finale

A strong car count among many of the

best short track driv-ers in the nation should

equate into a great race. This is the last chance for them to get

quality lap time in on the rugged

old speed-way before the Grand-daddy race of them all.

Becca Kasten from North Carolina and Cris Muhler from Colorado are 2 of the new faces competing tonight. (See Chuck Corder’s story on Becca Kasten inside.) The Snowball starting field from last year is on the back page.

If this is not enough then we’ll step out

further. How about we crown a champion in the Super Stocks? This should really go down to the wire tonight as Bubba Winslow holds a slim 21 point lead over Randy Thompson.

If excitement is what you’re looking for, then

you have come to the right place, because that’s just what you are going to get tonight. Five Flags Speed-way has got your “fix”.

It will also guarantee two lucky drivers a spot in

the 45th Annual Snowball Derby© in December.

Are you fans excited yet? How about

DOUBLE POINTS in both the Sportsman and Bomb-ers for a night cap? Bran-non Fowler has enjoyed a comfortable lead in the Sportsman division for most of the year, but Steve Buttrick is charging hard and has managed to make up a lot of ground on Fowler the last few weeks. Only 32 points separate these two drivers and double points could mean everything. The same stands true for the Bombers between Gary Goodwin and second place Brandon Burks.

These two divisions plus the Allen Turner Hyun-

dai Pro Late Models and Modifieds will highlight the Whataburger “Night of Champions” next Saturday at 7pm which wraps up the 2012 regular season.

Enough for now; Buy a chance for the Ya Yas

gift baskets (the ladies with the pink hair), and support their campaign to beat breast cancer.

From the Tower To The Track Becca Kasten has made two ap-pearances at the Snowball Derby©. But the 22-year-old Wisconsin native has neither practiced nor raced at the most prestigious short-track event in the nation. Kasten spent time live blogging the race and the jam-packed week’s events for Speed51.com, the authority for short-track racers and its fans, inside the tower at Five Flags Speedway. But that changes this December where she hopes to be one of the top cars to beat in the 45th running of the Snowball. Before that, Kasten gets to turn her first laps at America’s Favorite Home Track in the Buddy’s Home Fur-nishings Blizzard Series season finale tonight.

“Five Flags is the most, well-organized track in the country,” Kasten said. “I’m excited about it. “As a northerner, we have our big races. But when I came to watch the Derby, I felt nervous and I wasn’t even driving. It’s such a big deal. If it’s not the biggest race, it’s definitely one of ’em.” Kasten will steer the No. 51 owned by Speed TV personality Bob Dillner. Dillner, who is one of the founders of Speed51.com, admired Kasten’s work ethic when she volunteered pro-viding Snowball Derby content for the website a few years ago. “Bob loves short-track racing and real people,” Kasten said. “He liked what I projected and he could tell that by the way I talked racing.” Kasten is seemingly the perfect driver for Dillner, who consistently promotes the idea of more female drivers in the sport, such as Danica Patrick, Kenzie Ruston, who has made several appearances here and of course, Johanna Long.Read all of Chuck’s story on our web site.
