received a letter in the mail with login information and how to check grades and attendance. Students can log in via their student ID (make sure to put an ‘S’ in front of the numbers!) and their normal D200 password. If you are having any problems, reach out to [email protected] to speak with Technology and get help.
Finally, for those parents who are interested in more real-time access to what students are
doing, consider gaining access to your student’s Canvas account. Canvas is the platform that our students use to receive assignments, curriculum, due dates, etc. from our teachers. Each teacher has a Canvas page for each class they teach. When you become a “follower” of that Canvas page, you can set up alerts to know more about each class for your student. Be warned: setting up notifications for each class might mean more emails than you want! You
can always change the setting. If you want to know more about that process, use this link to set up your Canvas account and get linked to your student’s classes.
And, so we’re off! I wish you and your student the best of luck throughout remote learning. We are always here to help, so please reach out when anything comes up. We are willing to help every student, every period, every day! Sincerely,
Art Vallicelli, Ed. D Principal
Welcome back, Blue Streaks! From the Office of the Principal and on the behalf of Mrs. Buchanan and myself, I hope the 2020-21 school year is off to an outstanding start! We’ve all heard it a million times: this year is so unique; this year will have new challenges, etc. And, of course, that’s all true. But, this year is also like every other in the history of public education: our mission of providing a safe environment where students maximize their learning is still our top priority. When it comes to wanting to see our Blue Streaks be ready for anything and everything after their four years is up, that hasn’t changed. However, this year has brought about a few changes, and I want to make sure that all parents, guardians, and students are keenly aware of these changes. One of the most significant changes is the key difference between the springtime remote learning and the current remote learning that we are in. That is, we are taking every attendance for every student and making sure that we can assess progress to give feedback and see where we can help more. So, grades are very much a real thing! As we’ve said in our virtual staff meetings, we mean to help, “every kid, every period, every day,” to ensure that they learn. Of course, this means we need our students to do their part. Encourage them to come to class every period of every day and to be sure to complete their assignments. Speaking of assignments, we have a new system called PowerSchool that parents and students can use to check grades and attendance. All guardians should have

D200 will be providing Chromebooks for our
students. These devices are critical tools that the
students will use to demonstrate their learning in
ways that were not even possible a few years ago.
It is very exciting! However, with the device comes
responsibility for its safekeeping. We know that
accidents happen and, because of that, we are
offering an optional Chromebook Replacement
Program.
The program costs $30 per student. This is an
optional program that is open to all students who
receive a device. The program will cover accidents
related to Chromebooks that are damaged,
including any repair costs up to replacement of the
device, if necessary. If you are not a part of the
program and your child’s Chromebook is damaged,
you will be required to pay the total cost for repairs
or replacement (up to $325 per event.)
If you have questions, please contact WHS.
> Athletes: If your student plans to play any
athletic sport at WHS they are required to
have an annual sports physical. We must
have a physical on file PRIOR to the start of
the sports season; Aug. 12. Freshman
students who have turned in a school
physical on the Certificate of Child Health
Exam form do not need a sport physical.
> Freshmen: If your freshman student has
NOT had a state physical and dental exam,
please be sure to get one scheduled.
Physicals are required by state law, exclusion
date is October 15th.
> Seniors: Your senior may need to get a
meningitis vaccine that is now required for
all 12th-grade students by the state of
Illinois.
> Tips: These are sure different times going
back to school this fall. One constant is
helping teens establish a healthy foundation
for life. Eat a balanced diet, exercise one
hour, six days a week, stay hydrated, manage
stress, and get 8 hours of sleep. Keep Calm
and Wash Your Hands
