Tennessee Adoption Q1 2010

Adoption is calculated using the number of licensed clinicians by county as the denominator and Shared Health clinician users who have demonstrated 4 or more unique patient lookups in any given month during the measurement period as the numerator.

Meaningful Use: Collect, Move and Improve

Under rules proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), eligible physicians and hospitals can qualify for annual incentive payments based upon meeting “meaningful use” criteria.

There are three incremental stages of meaningful use criteria.

– Stage 1 – The collection and use of clinical data– Stage 2 – The secure exchange of information– Stage 3 – Using patient data to improve population outcomes

Stage 1 – The collection & use of clinical data

• Focuses on the electronic collection of comprehensive patient health data in a standard coded format.

•The information collected is then used to track key clinical conditions and improve clinical decisions

Shared Health helps providers meet Stage 1 of meaningful use through the Clinical Health Record (CHR) Patient Summary, Problem List, Care Opportunities® and our Clinical Decision Support Tools.

• Focus on the systems needed to make data interoperable, allowing the secure exchange of key clinical data among a patient’s entire health care team.

• The flow of information among health professionals enhances coordination of care and reduces errors.

Stage 3 – Using patient data to improve population outcomes

• Focuses on the use of patient data and clinical decision support tools to promote improvements in quality, safety, and efficiency.

• Stage 3 concentrates on giving patients access to self-management tools and enabling practices to access comprehensive patient data with the goal of improving overall population health.

Shared Health helps providers meet Stage 3 through our Clinical Decision Support Tools and through the ability to secure message.

Meaningful Use Program Reimbursement

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has allocated nearly $19 billion in incentive payments for the adoption and implementation of health information technology.

In order to receive the maximum payment amounts certain implementation deadlines must be met for each stage.

You may qualify for incentive payments or reimbursements of $44,000 from Medicare or $63,750 from Medicaid to offset the cost of implementing an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Health care providers are expected to achieve meaningful use of an EHR system by 2015 or be subject to financial penalties by CMS.

Interoperability

Shared Health is actively working with EHR vendors to create a more efficient office workflow presenting patient data from a patient centric prospective.

Today, we interoperate with eClinical Works and are working withother EHR vendors to provide this functionality.
