How to dismantle, repair and assemble the Sprag Clutch on the BMW F650 Funduro.TRANSCRIPT
BMW F650 FUNDURO
REPLACE/REPAIR FREEWHEEL/ONE WAY CLUTCH/ SPRAG CLUTCH.
Equipment required.
• No 17 Spanner. • No 5 Allen bit or key. • No 30 Socket. • Impact driver. • Flat Screwdriver. • No 20 Socket. • Ratchet spanner. • Special tool Puller BMW 12 5 510 (for removing magnet rotor) • Locktite 648 or medium strength. • 1200 Sanding paper. • No 24 Spanner. • No 9 socket. • Oil pan or drip tray. • +- 1 Litre oil. • Oil seal spring. • White spirit. • Acetone.
Method.
1. Drain oil from sump. No 17 spanner. (Fig 1) 2. Allow all oil to drain.
3. Check aluminium crush washer on sump plug for damage, replace if necessary. 4. Loosen Allen bolts on Right Engine housing. 10 in total. Using no 5 Allen bit or key. (Fig 2)

5. Loosen sprocket cover and remove. (Fig 3 and 4)
6. Remove oil breather pipe. (Fig 5)

7. Remove right engine housing cover and rest on footpeg. Ensure gasket is not damaged and replace if necessary. (Fig 6)
8. Remove washer from pin. (Fig 7)
9. Loosen hex nut with no 30 socket and impact driver. (Fig 8) For assembly use loctite.

10. Ensure 1st gear is engaged.
11. Use puller BMW 12 5 510 (this is a homemade puller) and no 22 socket to remove Magnet
rotor (Fig 9) 12. Ensure Lock key is there. (Fig 10)

13. Place magnet rotor on table with freewheel facing up. (Fig 11)
14. Loosen 4 nuts with no 9 socket. (Fig 12)
15. Remove cover plate and clean with white spirits. (Fig 13) For assembly use loctite.

16. Take note of the arrow and direction it show (Fig 14)
17. Remove free wheel. Take note of roller bearings and their position (of the lobes) as well as the spring, if spring is broken the roller bearings will fall out so take care if you remove the free wheel from the magnet rotor. (Fig 15)
18. Now install the oil seal spring in the free wheel or new free wheel (sprag clutch) and then
assemble in the reverse of the dismantling, remember to use Loctite 648 or medium strength.
