1. THE INTENT OF THESE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS IS FOR THE CONTRACTOR TO FURNISH AND INSTALLCOMPLETE MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. THESE MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMSINCLUDE PLUMBING, FIRE PROTECTION, HVAC, ELECTRICAL AND ALL ASSOCIATED SPECIAL SYSTEMS. ALLSYSTEMS SHALL BE COMPLETE IN ALL RESPECTS. OPERATING, TESTED, ADJUSTED, APPROVED BY THEAUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION AND READY FOR BENEFICIAL USE BY THE OWNER.

2. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AND REVIEW ALL CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING PLANS ANDSPECIFICATIONS OF ALL TRADES BEFORE SUBMITTING BID. REFER TO PROJECT MANUAL AND PLANS,INCLUDING ALL EQUIPMENT SCHEDULES FOR MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL INFORMATION. CONTRACTORSHALL WALK THROUGH BUILDING PRIOR TO SUBMITTING BID.

8. REPAIR AND/OR REPLACE AT NO COST TO OWNER ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS DAMAGED DURINGCONSTRUCTION.

9. THE DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND INDICATE THE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF SYSTEMS AND WORKINCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE LOCATIONS OF EQUIPMENT WITH ALLTRADES BEFORE STARTING CONSTRUCTION. ANY MODIFICATIONS TO THE EQUIPMENT LAYOUT REQUIREDFOR INSTALLATION ARE TO BE PERFORMED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.

10. ALL WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE LATEST APPLICABLE CODES IN THEORDINANCES AND THE REGULATORY AGENCIES HAVING JURISDICTION.

11. ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LOCATED IN ACCESSIBLE LOCATIONS. WHEN A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT MUST BELOCATED ABOVE AN INACCESSIBLE CEILING OR WALL, THEN THE APPROPRIATE ACCESS DOOR SHALL BEPROVIDED. THESE SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE ARCHITECT.

12. WHEN CONFLICTS OCCUR BETWEEN THE DRAWINGS AND/OR SPECIFICATIONS IT SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THEATTENTION OF THE ENGINEER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CARRY AS PART OF THE BID THE LARGER QUANTITYAND/OR MORE EXPENSIVE ITEM(S).

13. CONTRACTORS SHALL COORDINATE THEIR WORK WITH ALL OWNER-FURNISHED EQUIPMENT, INCLUDINGREQUIRED SERVICE CONNECTIONS, RECEPTACLES, ETC. BEFORE INSTALLATION.

14. CONTRACTORS SHALL PROVIDE ALL REQUIRED SLEEVES AND SEALS FOR PIPES OR CONDUIT PENETRATINGWALLS OR FLOOR SLABS WITH FIRESTOPPING SEALANT WHERE REQUIRED.

ELECTRICAL GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

A. ALL WORK SHALL COMPLY WITH CONNECTICUT STATE BUILDING CODE ANDCONNECTICUT STATE FIRE SAFETY CODE AND SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED IN A NEATAND WORKMAN LIKE MANNER.

B. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT SHALL BE NEW UNLESS SPECIFICALLY NOTED OTHERWISE ANDSHALL BE LISTED BY UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES.

C. SUBMITTALS:

1. SUBMIT PRODUCT DATA, SHOP DRAWINGS, RECORD DRAWINGS AND O&M MANUALSWHERE REQUIRED BY INDIVIDUAL SPECIFICATION SECTIONS.

2. SUBMIT THREE (3) COPIES TO OWNER.

D. ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION:

1. COORDINATE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS INSTALLATIONWITH OTHER BUILDING COMPONENTS. REFER ALL CONFLICTS TO ENGINEER BEFORECONTINUING WITH WORK.

2. INSTALL SYSTEMS TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM HEADROOM POSSIBLE UNLESS INDICATEDOTHERWISE.

RACEWAYS, BOXES AND FITTINGS

A. COMPONENTS AND INSTALLATION SHALL COMPLY WITH NFPA 70 & NEMA AND SHALLBE UL LISTED.

B. INTERIOR RACEWAYS SHALL BE ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING.

C. EXTERIOR RACEWAYS ABOVE GROUND SHALL BE RIGID METAL CONDUIT ORLIQUID-TIGHT FLEXIBLE METAL CONDUIT (MAX. LENGTH 5').

D. EXTERIOR RACEWAYS BELOW GROUND SHALL BE RIGID METAL CONDUIT OR SCHEDULE40 PVC.

E. USE RACEWAY FITTINGS COMPATIBLE WITH ASSOCIATED RACEWAY AND APPLICATION.

F. BOXES SHALL BE STEEL CONFORMING TO UL 514A AND NEMA OS1. FITTINGS SHALLCONFORM TO UL 514B.

BUILDING WIRE

A. WIRE SHALL COMPLY WITH UL 83 AND NEMA WC-5. CONNECTORS SHALL COMPLYWITH UL 486A.

B. CONDUCTORS SHALL BE COPPER AND INSULATION SHALL BE THHN/THWN.

C. INTERIOR WIRING SHALL BE BUILDING WIRE IN CONDUIT WHERE EXPOSED AND MC CABLEWHERE CONCEALED.

SUPPORTING DEVICES

A. SUPPORTS, HARDWARE AND FASTENERS SHALL BE PROTECTED WITH ZINC COATING.

B. SLEEVES SHALL BE SCHEDULE 40 GALVANIZED STEEL PIPE.

C. CONFORM TO MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SELECTION ANDINSTALLATION OF SUPPORTS AND CONFORM TO THE FOLLOWING:

1. SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL HORIZONTAL RACEWAYS BY SEPARATE PIPE HANGERS.2. SUPPORT RACEWAY WITHIN 1 FOOT OF ANY UNSUPPORTED BOX.

D. INSTALL SLEEVES IN CONCRETE SLABS AND WALLS, AND FIRE RATED WALLS ANDFLOORS. APPLY UL LISTED FIRE STOPPING MATERIAL WHERE REQUIRED.

ELECTRICAL IDENTIFICATION

A. PROVIDE EQUIPMENT IDENTIFICATION LABELS OF ENGRAVED PLASTIC LAMINATE FORMETER SOCKETS, PANELBOARDS & DISCONNECTS.

B. CONDUCTORS SHALL BE COLOR CODED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 70 AND ANSI A13.1.

C. PROVIDE TYPED PANELBOARD CIRCUIT DIRECTORY FOR EACH PANELBOARD.

D. PROVIDE UNDERGROUND WARNING TAPE FOR ALL BURIED ELECTRICAL SERVICES.

PANELBOARDS

A. PANELBOARDS SHALL BE 208/120 VOLT, 3 PHASE. USE CUTLER-HAMMER POW-R-LINE 1aOR EQUAL BY SIEMENS, SQUARE D OR GE.

B. REFER TO PANELBOARD SCHEDULES FOR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS.

1. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL WORK REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE, FULLY OPERABLEINSTALLATION. ALL WORK TO BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST APPROVED ISSUE OF THE NEC ANDAPPLICABLE LOCAL CODES.

2. THIS IS AN EXISTING BUILDING, WITH AN EXISTING SERVICE. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE PRIOR TOSUBMITTING A BID TO ASCERTAIN FIELD CONDITIONS AS THEY EXIST AND JUDGE THEIR EFFECT ON THE WORK TO BE DONE.NO ALLOWANCE WILL BE MADE FOR FAILURE TO VISIT THE JOB SITE AND MAKE THIS DETERMINATION.

3. THE DRAWINGS SHOW THE GENERAL LAYOUT AND SOME OF THE DETAIL, BUT THEY DO NOT SHOW EVERY FITTING, BEND,ETC. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL SUCH MATERIALS TO MAKE A COMPLETE INSTALLATION.

4. DO NOT SCALE DRAWINGS; ACTUAL FIELD MEASUREMENTS AND DIMENSIONS TAKE PRECEDENCE IN ALL CASES.

5. ALL WORK SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STANDARD GENERAL CONDITIONS OF THE CONSTRUCTIONCONTRACT, AIA DOCUMENT 201, LATEST EDITION.

6. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL ALL EQUIPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONSAND/OR REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE.

7. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL GIVE OWNER SEVEN (7) DAYS ADVANCE NOTICE OF SHUTDOWNS. SHUTDOWNS TO BEKEPT TO A MINIMUM. AT NO TIME SHALL THE BUILDING/SPACE BE LEFT WITHOUT COMMERCIAL POWER IN FULL OPERATINGORDER.

8. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TESTING OF ALL PHASES OF THE WORK AND TO DEMONSTRATETO OWNER THAT THE EQUIPMENT IS IN FULL OPERATING ORDER.

9. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE ALL AREAS DISTURBED TO THEIR ORIGINAL CONDITION. ELECTRICALCONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CUTTING, PATCHING, PAINTING, CLEAN-UP, ELECTRICAL DEBRIS REMOVAL ANDGENERAL COORDINATION OF THE WORK EFFORT AS REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE ELECTRICAL ITEMS OFWORK.

10. THE TERM "PROVIDE" SHALL MEAN TO FURNISH AND INSTALL IN COMPLETE WORKING ORDER.

11. THE SCOPE OF WORK IS AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS AND DETAILED IN THE SPECIFICATIONS.

12. ALL THE WIRE SIZES ARE BASED ON COPPER, ALUMINUM IS NOT TO BE USED.

13. ALL WIRING METHODS ARE TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CURRENT ISSUE OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, ANDAPPLICABLE LOCAL CODES. ALL WIRING IS TO BE IN CONDUIT, UNLESS SPECIFICALLY NOTED OTHERWISE. ALL WIRING ISTO BE CONCEALED.

14. PROVIDE INDEPENDENT SEISMIC SUPPORT OF ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT PER INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE.

15. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL SECURE ALL PERMITS AND PAY FOR ALL REQUIRED FEES, INCLUDING ALL UTILITY FEES.

16. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL WARRANT AND GUARANTEE ALL MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF ONE(1) YEAR FROM THE DATE OF FINAL ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER.

17. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE PROOF OF LIABILITY AND PROPERTY INSURANCE TO THE OWNER, ALLDEDUCTIBLES SHALL BE PAID FOR BY THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR IN THE EVENT OF A CLAIM.

18. PERSONNEL SAFETY IS OF PRIME IMPORTANCE. NO HAZARDOUS CONDITION MUST BE ALLOWED. EVERY CARE MUST BETAKEN TO PROTECT CONSTRUCTION AND OTHER PERSONNEL. CLEANUP IS TO BE DONE ON A DAILY BASIS. ELECTRICALCONTRACTOR TO REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF REFUSE FROM SITE.

19. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SHOP DRAWINGS FOR APPROVAL FOR ALL EQUIPMENT, WIRING, CONDUIT,DISCONNECT, ETC.

20. COORDINATE EXACT PLACEMENT OF EQUIPMENT WITH MECHANICAL PLANS, MAKE FIELD ADJUSTMENTS AS REQUIRED TOAVOID CONFLICTS, VERIFY WITH OWNER.

21. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE WITH MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR FOR ITEMS SUPPLIED BY THEMECHANICAL/OTHER DIVISIONS BUT INSTALLED BY THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR TO REVIEWALL THE PLANS FOR THE PROJECT FOR ELECTRICAL WORK.

22. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR TO VERIFY ALL EQUIPMENT POWER NEEDS WITH THE ACTUAL SHOP DRAWINGS FOR THEEQUIPMENT TO BE USED, PRIOR TO STARTING ANY ELECTRICAL WORK.

23. SPECIFICATION SECTIONS, GENERAL CONDITIONS, SUPPLEMENTAL GENERAL CONDITIONS AND DRAWINGS ARE INTEGRALPARTS OF CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.

24. ALL ELECTRICAL PENETRATIONS TO BE FIREPROOFED TO MAINTAIN INTEGRITY OF FIRE WALLS/FLOORS/CEILINGS.

25. PROVIDE LAMICOID NAMEPLATES FOR ALL ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION AND DISCONNECT EQUIPMENT.

26. THE DISPOSAL OF ALL UNUSED EXISTING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT REMOVED IS A PART OF THE SCOPE OF WORK. THEELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL DISPOSE OF ALL SUCH EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING HAZARDOUS PCB CONTAININGBALLASTS, IN A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH STATE OF CT. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION REGULATIONS,CURRENT ISSUE.

27. SHARED NEUTRALS ARE NOT TO BE USED. PROVIDE SEPARATE NEUTRALS FOR ALL CIRCUITS.

28. PRIOR TO SUBMISSION OF BIDS, GIVE WRITTEN NOTICE TO ENGINEER OF ANY MATERIAL OR APPARATUS THAT ISINADEQUATE, UNSUITABLE FOR THE USE, IN VIOLATION OF LAWS, ORDINANCES, RULES, CODES OR ANY REGULATIONS OFAUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION OR ANY NECESSARY ITEMS OF WORK THAT HAS BEEN OMITTED. CONTRACTORAFFIRMS THAT ABSENT SUCH NOTICE, ALL SYSTEMS WILL FUNCTION SATISFACTORILY WITHOUT ADDITIONAL EXTRACOMPENSATION.

29. ALL PART NUMBERS ARE PROVIDED FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THE CONTRACTOR. THEY ARE NOT TO BE CONSIDEREDTHE COMPLETE SPECIFICATION OF THE PRODUCT. THE PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION WILL BE THE COMPLETESPECIFICATION. IN THE EVENT OF A DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE TWO (2), THE MORE STRINGENT, MORE COSTLYFEATURE/PERFORMANCE WILL BE REQUIRED.

30. FOR ALL GRADE LEVEL HVAC EQUIPMENT, THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL SUPPLY A GFCI WP, 20A RECEPTACLEFOR EQUIPMENT SERVICING. ALL DISCONNECT SWITCHES ARE TO BE HEAVY DUTY, FUSED, WEATHER PROOF (WP)DEVICES.

31. NO LOW VOLTAGE WIRING SHALL BE PERMITTED IN THE SAME RACEWAY AS POWER WIRING.

32. PROVIDE DRAG LINES IN ALL EMPTY RACEWAYS.

33. CIRCUIT NUMBERS ARE INDICATED FOR INTENT ONLY. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL ADJUST ACCORDINGLY INTHE FIELD, TO BALANCE CIRCUITS EVENLY ON ALL PHASES.

34. REFER TO MECHANICAL DRAWINGS FOR THE EXACT LOCATION AND MOUNTING HEIGHTS OF ALL EQUIPMENT ANDOUTLETS.

35. MINIMUM CONDUCTOR SIZE, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED SHALL BE #12 FOR ALL BRANCH CIRCUIT RUNS UP TO THE FIRSTOUTLET; OVER 100 FEET, #10; OVER 150 FEET, #8; INCREASE CONDUIT SIZE TO SUIT.

36. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR TO VERIFY LOADS, SETTINGS, OVERCURRENT PROTECTION, ETC. TO INSURE COMPATIBILITY OFEQUIPMENT.

37. NO PENETRATIONS ARE ALLOWED INTO STAIR ENCLOSURES EXCEPT AS REQUIRED FOR SERVICES UTILIZED IN THE STAIR.

38. REPAIR AND REPLACE AT NO COST TO OWNER ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION.

39. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE ALL DEMOLITION WITH BASE BUILDING ELECTRICIAN.

40. APPEARANCE OF ALL VISIBLE FEATURES IS OF SPECIAL IMPORTANCE IN OCCUPIED AREAS. LOCATION SHOWN ONDRAWINGS IS DIAGRAMMATIC AND NOT INTENDED TO DETERMINE EXACT LOCATION. CONTACT ARCHITECT TO REVIEWFINAL LOCATIONS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN REQUIREMENT TO RELOCATE.

41. PRODUCTS SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED IN PROMINENT LOCATIONS UNLESS NO ALTERNATIVE EXISTS. ITEMS SHALL BECENTERED ON WALL OR CEILING TREATMENT AND ON ONE ANOTHER AS APPLICABLE. 43. ALL INSTALLATIONS ON NEW WALLS SHALL BE FULLY RECESSED. INSTALLATIONS ON EXISTING MASONRY WALLSSHALL BE RUN WITH SURFACE WIREMOLD RACEWAY PAINTED TO MATCH WALL FINISH AND SURFACE BOXES.INSTALLATIONS ON EXISTING STUD WALLS SHALL CUT IN OLD-WORK STYLE BOXES AND FISH WIRING IN WALL CAVITY.

1. ELECTRICAL DEMOLITION TO BE SUPERVISED BY LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. EACH CIRCUIT SHALL BE VERIFIED"COLD" & DISCONNECTED FROM ELECTRICAL SOURCE PRIOR TO COMMENCING REMOVAL.

2. REMOVE EXISTING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS AS REQUIRED TO ACCOMMODATE MECHANICAL WORK AND ASSPECIFICALLY NOTED ON THE DEMOLITION DRAWINGS.

3. ALL MATERIALS BEING REMOVED SHALL BE HANDLED IN A MANNER COMPLYING WITH ALL PERTINENT LAWS, CODES ANDENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS.

4. WHERE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT & DEVICES ARE BEING REMOVED, COORDINATE AND FIELD VERIFY IF BRANCH CIRCUITFEEDS THROUGH TO EQUIPMENT/DEVICES TO REMAIN. BRANCH CIRCUITS SHALL BE SPLICED OR RELOCATED TO MAINTAINCONTINUATION OF SERVICES.

5. WHERE EXISTING DEVICES ARE REMOVED & NO NEW DEVICES ARE INSTALLED IN THE SAME LOCATION, REMOVE ALLWIRING FROM BOX & PROVIDE PROPERLY SIZED BLANK COVER PLATE.

6. ALL REMOVED COMPONENTS SHALL BE LEGALLY DISPOSED OF BY CONTRACTOR UNLESS SPECIFICALLY NOTEDOTHERWISE.
