At the beginning of July I will be ordaining nine new deacons and nineteen new priests at two services of ordination in our Cathedral. For me, as bishop, ordination services are a special moment. I am deeply moved and humbled to see these people stand before God, ready to commit their lives to following Jesus and to serving his church.
The process that leads to ordination is a long and sometimes arduous one. It takes years of reflection and study to discern the essential nature of the call from God which each individual experiences. While not everyone is called to pursue a life in the ordained ministry, that model of reflecting and studying to discern God’s call to us is one which all of us can follow. Although the way ahead may not always be clear, the one thing of which we can always be certain is that God is calling us, and he has work for each of us to do.
I know many of you will be walking alongside these new deacons and new priests as they explore and begin to live out what the call to ordained ministry means for each of them in their lives and in the congregations in which they will be serving.
The lifelong task for each one of us is to do as these new deacons and priests are doing; to listen to God’s call; to reflect on its meaning for us; to answer and respond in our own lives. Each one of us - wherever we are, whoever we are and whatever gifts and skills we have been given - is called to use our gifts to the glory of God and in the service of others. May God be with you as you discern his will for you that, in grace, you may be enabled to respond with joy. Bishop Christopher

On Monday 1st June, the Rt Revd Christopher Lowson, Bishop of Lincoln, launched a £1m social justice fund. The Bishop of Lincoln's Social Justice Fund is being administered in partnership with Lincolnshire Community Foundation and is the realisation of Bishop Christopher's dream - to enable work across greater Lincolnshire that helps to address social justice issues.
Applications are welcome from churches, not for profit community groups or social enterprises, and should be involved in social cohesion, isolation, poverty, older people, children and young people.

Fr Martin - Auf wiedersehen, adieu, Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu – well not yet! It is amazing just how fast four years can zip by! Martin has completed his four years training as our Assistant Curate and has moved on to his next post as Community Chaplain for the Skegness Group - for the next seven months. Yet he has not moved because he will continue to live in the Curate’s House until the point when he moves to his next full time position. I am very pleased that he is able to support the mission and ministry at St Matthew’s, & St Clement’s Skegness, St Mary Winthorpe, St Nicholas Addlethorpe and St Peter & St Paul Ingoldmells, not only because it was part of my old stomping ground but because we started the rot of clergy moves from Skegg. by appointing Fran! Please pray for all the Good people of that group and the thousands of visitors who take the trip to the seaside. Martin is continuing to look for his next move and we pray that that will be sorted sooner than later. I know we would all like to have the opportunity to say thank you to him for all that he has been for us over the last four years, lovingly backed by Kaye, Angharad & Eleri. It is the genious of the Church of England to fit the right people into the right slots, Martin had put down on his form seeking a curacy that he would like an Urban Parish and so you can see why he was appointed to our very rural area! However, he did not let that phase him and he has done an amazing job. AS well as developing the skills of the trade he has initiated so many new things, Breakfast Services, 2nd Sunday at 6, Prayer Vigils, Healing Services, Schools Programmes. Many thanks Martin and may you go from strength to strength in His service. His rapid translation to Skegg. has not given us a chance to say a proper thank
you but we will organise a bit of a do when we know his next move and I am
opening a fund to send him on his way with a little something. All donations
here to the Team Office in the Vicarage – Please!
Yours Peter

FAMILY SERVICE. “Don't judge a book by its cover” was the theme for Family service in June. Jane Parker led the service and crucifer was Rupert Parsons.
Reverend Joan Thornett had arranged a display of Bibles on the altar. The children (and some adults) had been taught the songs ‘Who built the ark? ‘ and ‘How did Moses cross the Red Sea’ by Margaret Cook before the start of the service. The children, with the help of Jane Howsam, coloured in pictures
connected with stories from the Bible. Eight children brought their pictures to the front and looked at the display of Bibles and decided which book they might choose to look at. Even though the Bibles didn't look exciting Jane and Margaret talked about the stories that could be found in the Bible and linked them to the pictures completed by the children. Everyone sang the songs learnt before the service. The congregation proved to be a great help! Reverend Joan talked about the book of Genesis being a history of a Nomadic people who wanted to know where they had come from; of the many rules and regulations found in Leviticus and the murder and mayhem found in Kings. The New Testament tells of God coming into the world and that God loves us....warts and all and that a book or person should not be judged by its cover. Jane led the prayers asking the congregation to think about the many threads
that are linked to the stories of their lives. The children enjoyed carrying on with the activities after the service and some of their work was displayed on the new Family Service board. The next Family service will be on July 5th at 10.00

One Year On… July marks the end of my first year in the Bolingbroke Deanery Team – and what a year it has been. Our Christmas and Holy Week celebrations were particular highlights, and it has been ‘interesting’ to work at balancing the Parish work and the Discipleship work. One year on – I hope it is something to celebrate. It is tempting, when we reach particular anniversaries, to keep looking back, and even hankering after how things used to be. It is, of course, important to reflect on our past actions and how they have contributed to our current situation – but it is only worth doing if we complete the cycle – use the past to inform the present and help us plan for the future. That is what we have been doing as part of the Developing Discipleship Programme in the Stickney Cluster. Over the past few months we have talked about what we used to do, what we have tried, what we have given up. But now we are talking about action planning – setting ourselves one-year goals so that we move forwards and develop as a church and as individual disciples. In some respects, our plans are small, but achievable. In other ways, however, they challenge us to go beyond what we know, to step outside our comfort zone, and to trust God. I hope we are all prepared for a roller coaster ride, because that, in my experience, is what happens when we step out in faith! By the end of the month we will know what each Church has committed themselves to achieve over the next 12 months. My prayer is that, in 12 months’ time, we will be able to reflect on and enjoy the journey God has taken us on. All aboard!

Race for Life (Cancer Research UK) For the fourth year running my daughter Lindsay and granddaughter Orla have taken part in this event held in Cleethorpes (not Louth as mentioned in a previous copy of the Grape Vine.) A big “thank you” to all those who sponsored Orla - £260 has been raised. I went along on 17th May to cheer them on and found the whole experience a very moving one. The stadium at Cleethorpes was a sea of pink as hundreds of women gathered to take part. There were enthusiastic runners who raced the 5k in record time, others, less experienced who took things at a slower pace but with no less enthusiasm and bringing up the rear, the walkers, determined that they too would make a contribution to this fund raising campaign aimed at eradication of the 200 different forms of cancer. Perhaps the most moving part of the event was reading the dedications pinned to the backs of participants – relatives and friends who have died as a result of cancer, or who like me, are being treated at the present time. With so many calls on people’s generosity, I, along with Lindsay and Orla herself, are very grateful for the support so many of you gave her. Thank you. Joan Thornett Orla and Lindsay Parr (Joan Thornett's daughter and granddaughter) would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored Orla to run the Race for Life in support of Cancer Research. The grand total raised was £571, and much of that was thanks to kind Grape Vine readers and the lovely staff at Spilsby Primary School. We are really grateful.

WOW! What a gift... ...just answer a question about motor racing a, b or c and text it on your phone to a given number that’s all we did. Then about 6 weeks later, a phone call came, confirming Peter and I had won the star prize. A trip to see the Indi 500 race in Indianapolis. A gift cost us nothing and yet to benefit from the gift we had to accept it. We did, who wouldn’t! It was free to us, Firestone Tyre Company had paid for it and offered it to us as a gift. We went on this amazing holiday with spending money provided and were truly thankful. This is like a parable:- Each one of us whether young or old, rich or poor has been offered the Gift of eternal life. It doesn’t cost us anything, but it cost Jesus His Life. You see it says in Romans Chapter 6 verse 23 “The wages of sin is death but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus our Lord.” You see however much we work or how hard we try, we cannot earn out salvation. The wages of sin is death, and every one of us have sinned, but the Good news is, The Gift of God is eternal life. Jesus paid for it all, by taking our sin on the cross All we have to do is to say sorry for our sin and wrong doing. Then ask Jesus to be our Saviour, and receive the free gift of Salvation and eternal life. Our holiday was far above and beyond our wildest dreams and I know that “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him.” (Corinthians 2:9) Alleluia! So what are you waiting for? Mary Mackinder Toynton St Peter

ERESBY HALL NEWS
The residents of Eresby Hall enjoyed a number of activities during Dementia Awareness week. A coffee morning was held on the Saturday morning. A sensory walk in the garden was enjoyed by some and others had the beach brought to them on the patio near the conservatory. A load of sand was delivered and an ice cream van arrived to provide a special treat. The residents then enjoyed a fish and chip supper. A day at the seaside in the comfort of the home.
Christine Motley and Margaret Palmer gave the residents time to reminisce about baking, washing and general housekeeping by bringing in a variety of items used many years ago in the kitchen.
Muriel and other residents were taken to see Muriel's horse which lives in a field in Stickford. As soon as Muriel called its name it came over to her and she had the pleasure of feeding it once more. A photograph was taken of the boat which is near the entrance to
the Hall and the residents were asked to design a floral display for the boat using pictures from gardening catalogues. Connie and Ruth won the competition. The boat and the other garden pots have now been set with bedding plants ready to give a colourful show when summer eventually arrives.
Polly, Pauline and Margaret are modelling the new black T shirts which volunteers are now invited to wear! This enables residents and visitors to identify people who may be able to assist them. Do you have any spare time? Just an hour a week? Have you considered volunteering at
Eresby Hall? A number of volunteers are always required when residents are taken on visits. An extra pair of hands is always useful for the various activities that take place. Please contact the Manager, Donella Savage, if you are interested. You will be made very welcome.
(Thank you to Eresby for providing this month’s cover photo)

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES....
Some of you may remember the song by Dinah Washington called “What Difference a day makes”, a more recent cover version is by Jamie Cullum. On 28 June it is exactly 1 year to the day since I was ordained a Priest. What a difference a day makes, this year has flown by with many new experiences, all of them very positive and all demanding but rewarding.
Many people have said to me “How do you do it and work full time?” It requires many ingredients, like a good recipe, first and foremost without God’s unstinting grace and mercy I would be lost and I would not be able to do it. He is the one who sustains me when I get tired and weary. The Holy Spirit gives me the strength and power to reach out to others and serve them as they deserve.
I also need a very good diary with everything in it, in the hope I turn up at the right place at the right time, believe me sometimes that is no mean feat! I also have an understanding Incumbent in Cheryl, which is very important. There is also a wonderful husband behind all this who shares my love for the Lord and understands that some nights we may not have our evening meal until very late. As part of the recipe there is also my mother who is always there for me, willing to listen and share her wisdom and love.
Over this past year it has been an immense privilege to be part of people’s special days, being able to baptise a child or to assist at a wedding or to be part of a celebration of someone’s life. All of these are life changing moments, all of them very precious and I feel very honoured to have been ordained a priest, and to be able to be part of their story.
Once again the people of the South Ormsby Group have been incredibly supportive and encouraging which is tremendous. I believe God has called me to this beautiful part of Lincolnshire to serve him with all my heart and to serve all in the South Ormsby Community and the Bolingbroke Deanery. I feel this next year will be another year of change not only for me but also for the group, with Cheryl’s retirement.
With God’s grace we will grow and develop together with Christ at the centre of all that takes place in the years to come. Blessings Teresa

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice in
your community…
Our first ever Plant Sale & Garden Party took place in May at our Louth Hospice; it was fantastic to see so many people visiting the Hospice building, choosing from a selection of wonderful plants, perusing the stalls and taking part in the activities and games. The event raised almost £1000 to support the continuing delivery of St Barnabas Hospice care in the East Lindsey area from the Louth Hospice.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who donated plants, raffle prizes and who came along on the day; it was lovely to see you and we really appreciate your support.
Our next Coffee Morning at the Louth Hospice will take place on Thursday 23rd July 10am-12noon. We will have a selection of stall’s and activities. Entry is free and we would love you to join us!

After a long break I am now back on the Public Speaking circuit with my themed talk – ‘The Great British Humour.’
If your members are looking for a fun talk then this will be for them!
Not only is my talk humorous it is inspirational and will put a smile on the faces that need one. Learn about a Rose being named after me! Hear about my meeting with “Alan Titchmarsh” and how my painting could make me a rich man.
I have just given my first talk since the long break and the audience loved it. For bookings or further information, email me [email protected] or phone 01790 752458 (leave a message if I am not there and I will get back to you).
