General Decription of Function and Specification

The SERIES 200 CONTROLLER is ergonomically designed to ensure that it is user friendly, reliable and easyto maintain and service.

The Control board has a 3.5 inch, high capacity DOS compatible disk drive (1.44 Mbyte formatted) to be usedas the primary means of design transfer.

The system is able to load designs from the disk or network system while the loom is weaving. Designs loadedfrom the disk are in Bonas EP format.

The Control board is designed to withstand radiated and conducted electromagnetic interference in accordancewith the EEC EMC Directive as specified by the IEC 801 Standard (parts 2,4 & 5)

The system is designed so that weaving speeds of up to 1000 picks per minute can be achieved.

    A visual indication that the system is functioning is shown by a number of LED's which are visible through thefront panel of the unit. These LED's are allocated as follows ;

One LED to indicate the presence of mains power being supplied to the system. One LED to indicate that the system hardware is healthy. One LED to indicate that the software is running OK.Two LED,s indicating the status of the Jacquard vane (timing) switches.Five LED,s indicating the status of the Jacquard signals. One LED indicating a warning which requires operator intervention.

A liquid crystal display is visible through the front panel of the unit, which when used in conjunction with thekeyboard allows the operator to select a particular function.

The system has self checking routines which run periodically while the system is running. If an internal error isdetected, then the LED's on the front panel will indicate the error.

Two serial ports are provided to allow the controller to communicate with other equipment.

    SERIES 200 CONTROLLER

    CONTROLLER MANUAL BONAS MACHINE COMPANY

    Introduction

Page 3B/5 shows all the options available in the Controller and the corresponding page which describes how tooperate in that option.

Whenever the Series 200 Controller is switched on the controller runs through a series of self checks and thedisplay shows the following information.

    Bonas Series 200 Controller - Ver 0.6

System Initialising - Please Wait .......

Because the controller is designed to maintain information relating to the loom and Jacquard when it isswitched off, part of these self checks validate this information in order to check for possible corruption.Depending upon the result of the self checks, the screen will display the type of initialisation required. Ifcorruption of the information stored in the controller is detected, the screen will display

    Performing Cold Start

If the self checks show that the information stored has not been corrupted the screen displays :

    Performing Warm Start

Cold Start means that the controller is being started without any information relating to the operation of theloom and Jacquard.

Note:Following a Cold Start, ensure that the controller is configured so that it may operate correctly with yourJacquard/Loom combination. (See Pages 3B/38- 50).

A Cold Start is only performed in the unlikely event of corruption of the configuration information. In the vastmajority of cases a Warm Start is performed, which means that the controller will start up in the sameprogrammed state as it was when it was last running.

The initialisation messages stay on the screen for approximately 3 seconds after which the screen displays themain menu and the controller can be operated as required.

Two levels of operation are provided one of which allows the operator to access all of the functions of thecontroller. This level of operation is termed Full Access. The second level restricts operation to just threeoptions and is termed Limited Access. Depending on the level the controller has been set up to operate, thescreen will then display the appropriate menu options.

To move to the Full Menu from the Limited Menu a code number must be used, see page 3B/8.To move to the Limited Menu from the Full Menu press F1 key.

Glossary of TermsSeries 200 controller configuration

The configuration menu offers 3 options for configuring the controller which in turnallow certain features of the controller to be set to the user requirements.

    1. CONFIGURE JACQUARD

JACQUARD TYPEThree options, selected by using the function keys designated as left and rightcursor keys. The required option is accepted by pressing the OK function key.The three options are:-

NormalThis is a Jacquard fed by a single data line from the controller. (up to2688 ends depending upon the Jacquard.)

SplitThis is a Jacquard with single data line but allowing the controller to splitthe Jacquard in two halves, weaving two designs across the loom.

DualA double Jacquard with two serial lines allowing two different designs tobe sent to each of the jacquards and so two designs to be woven acrossthe loom.

LOOM PIECESThis indicates the number of repeats of a design appearing across the loom so thatthe correct stopping condition after a given number of repeats of one design canbe identified. The count should be entered using the numeric keys and acceptedwith the return key.

    2. CONFIGURE LOOM

WEFT OUTPUT POSITIONThis indicates the position in the looms cycle when the weft information is to bepresented to the loom. See fig 3B/58 on the next page.

On pick at top dead centreThe weft information is output at top dead centre of the pick cycle inwhich the weft is to be inserted in the shed..

Pre selected at timing signalThe loom provides a timing signal which gives the exact position for theweft information to be output, pre selection indicates that the weftinformation will be output in the pick cycle before the weft is to beinserted in the shed.

On pick at timing signalThe weft information will be output at the timing signal, provided by theloom, in the pick cycle in which the weft is to be inserted in the shed..

  • 3B/61

    SERIES 200 CONTROLLER

    CONTROLLER MANUAL BONAS MACHINE COMPANY

WEFT OUTPUT POSITION AT REVERSE DETECTIONWhen the loom stops and then moves in reverse the weft information can beoutput at any of the positions previously described :-On pick at top dead centre, etc etc.

WEFT OUTPUT POSITION AT FORWARD DETECTIONThe position after a reverse when the weft information for the forward pick is output thereare two possibilities.

When forward motion detectedThe weft information is not output until the controller detects that the loom hasstarted moving forwards.

At reverse top dead centreThis outputs the forward weft information as the loom moves over top dead centrein reverse, note that weft output position when reverse detected must thereforenot be at reverse tdc as this would mean the reverse and forward weft arerequired simultaneously and this is clearly impossible.

COLOURS BUFFERED IN LOOMThis indicates that the loom accepts weft data in advance of the required positionand stores the data internally in a buffer. The user accepts either yes or no usingthe function keys, if yes is selected the number of colours buffered must be inputon the numeric keys accepting using the return key.

PICK FIND FORWARDIf the loom cannot reverse then the enabling pick find forward will allow thecontroller to accept a pick find forward signal from the loom. The user acceptseither yes or no using the function keys, yes enables and no disables pick findforward. If enabled, the number of picks backward that the controller mustgenerate should be entered .

AUTO SHED LEVELThe loom supplies a shed level signal on the pick before the shed level is requiredin a pick finding sequence. If this option is selected then shed levelling will notoccur until the signal is received from the loom, the shed level performed will bedetermined by the stop cause which started the pick find sequence and the userselected shed level type for that stop.

SHED LEVELThe loom does not supply a signal at the required pick and therefore the user mustenter manual shed levelling which means that after a given number of picks in apick find sequence, the controller will shed level. The number of picks before ashed level and the type of shed level are determined by the stop cause and valuesinput by the user for that stop cause.
