Book Moda Uomo Catwalks 31TRANSCRIPT
Ancheper i completi formali.
Fashion is at a crossroads: on theone hand, a “zero setting” suggestsa tabula rasa look, which these days
might be called a blank tablet; on the otherhand, the need to compete with fast, cheapfashion imposes the need for maximum spe-cialisation in quality and luxury. MilanoModa Uomo and Mode à Paris swung bet-ween these two extremes. In the capital ofstyle only Prada, Bottega Veneta and JilSander explored the route of maximum sim-plification. While most other fashion housesaimed for the lustrous iconisation of theirown brands. Reaching fever pitch with Do-natella Versace’s gladiator in gold.
THE HIGGS BOSON LINEParis on the other hand saw thetotal purification of clothes witha number of neologisms for thewardrobe which seemed aimedat a Higgs boson like micro di-mension. So jackets lost theirsleeves, trench coats became aslight as shirts, T-shirts took theplace of pullovers and were wornover shirts and ties and bermudasreplaced trousers. Even for for-mal wear.
ETHNO-CLICKHowever, Paris and Milan did have onecommon denominator: the far east and southeast Asia, which also happen to be the hottestmarkets at the moment. Therefore, Indiankurtas have become new lines in spiritual T-shirts and essential tunics. And so too fromthe kingdoms of the maharajas come shinyshantung fabrics, fine silks and turbans. Itcould be called a nineties revival of ethno-chic. But today the orient returns to thecatwalk via the internet too, another increa-singly often cited element by the designers.Whereas two decades ago the east was lookedto for its exotic appeal, now thanks to the in-ternet, it is nothing more than a commonelement with the vast on-line communitywhich sees Indian students offering lessonsto American students via Skype. Ethno-chichas therefore become ethno-click. And thecoolest has become the cool-east.

L’evento è fissato scientemente in
Come dire?
Alcuni
ragazzini in verità sembrano averne 10.
logici?”.
Come eravamo a pezzi... e come ricostruiamo?
alla regia dello show. E qui sta la scelta vincente di
Dolce&Gabbana.
show room.
Senza dimenticare
Laddove, adesso, siamo ancora a pezzi.
E come riparare.
G.LoVe.
We start from the grand finale: the mega party of Dolce &Gabbana to celebrate the issue of the first Domenico Dolcephotographic book, Campioni, and – at the same time butnot by chance – the victory of Italy against Great Britain atthe European Football Championship. The event was inten-tionally dated the same day of the match. Indeed, at the sametime with the launch of the House’s book and during the fol-lowing party at the Metropol theatre, the match could beseen from mega screens. So Dolce & Gabbana took advantagefrom the Championship, also due to the good results ofItalians (otherwise, the party had brought some delight inany case). On the contrary, the other designers on showduring the match were afraid that people could fail to attendtheir shows. How could we say? Chapeau to the Dolce &Gabbana media talent. Indeed, that explains the success oftheir reality show: a sort of neorealist film with non-professionalactors, on the wave of Luchino Visconti’s La terra trema, mo-nopolising the attention of Milano Moda Uomo and gainingthe Oscar of catwalks.
DOLCE &... DE SICAAs we all know, Dolce & Gabbana chose a cast of Siciliancharacters, going from 16 to 45 years. But some boysseemed to be 10. “Uncle” Freud would ask himself: “areturn to home also in chronological terms?” While amovie critic would speak of “the De Sica’s poetry in Ladri
di biciclette”. But the masculi brought onto the catwalk atrue Sicilian image: pupi prints, frets from Sicilian cartsand loose, high-waisted trousers with darts. Extraordinaryjackets backed with impalpable gauzes that can be put in afist. Indeed, we ask ourselves how they could sew them, even if on the runway it’s difficult to discover these tactileand visual, sartorial miracles. How were we fractured? And how will we reconstruct?Indeed, clothing is in the background as regards the showdirection. And this is the Dolce&Gabbana’s winningchoice. The two designers know well that by now therunway is the representation of a style more than a boringsample show of garments. At this purpose, there is theshowroom. Who would be moved seeing a procession ofwalking boys with more or less the same jacket of manyyears ago? Therefore, action! We project a film of theiconic Sicilian origin of the brand that touches everybody’sheart. As it makes our memories vivid: the loose shortpants, a crescenza (growing) – as said by our grandmas –“so the children can wear them the following year”, theworn-out leather satchels, because of they were passedon from brother to brother, when the Pokémon backpacksdid not exist, the apotheosis of merchandising. Withoutleaving aside the sandals of the pensioned grandpa. Whoobserves silently and wisely from his plastic bar chair thedevelopment of a world that will be lost. Who wasn’tmoved refinding a piece of his personal story and thehistory of neorealist Italy: from the 1950s, destroyed by thewar, but with much energy and an extraordinary will toraise again. Even if now we are fractured again. But westill don’t understand how to do. How to better.

sino in fondo.
GLV
Tomas Maier shares with Prada the philosophyof a few basic pieces. So, with a T-shirt extendedover the trousers, perhaps made of chamois, hedresses his Bottega Veneta man for the everhotter summers. Perhaps another idea that maybe mistaken, in an historic moment in which thetendency is to cut instead of to add. Shame thaton the catwalk the attitude of the boys is a littletoo coquettish. Both for the draped necklines ofthe smocks, and for certain squaw fringes thatpop out. In short, this cow boy is not totallyconvincing. To say the least it is not incisive likethe formal clothes stained with sand: an evolutionof the last collection where the jackets, “stained”with works of art, had signalled one of thehighest Bottega moments.

la proiezione dello show.

Kean Etro that we have always thought farfrom technology believes that the future will be based on“the interaction between these two universes, in the signof sharing”. So refined India of maharajahs, which is alsothe cradle of the houses’ paisley patterns, interacts withthe West. As the Indian student gives private lessons to theUS ones via skype. NEL MEZZO DEL CAMMIN DI NOSTRA VITA
At the epoch of Dante midlife was at35. Now midlife is at 45. And therunways celebrate it with riper
beauties. For an aesthetic message more inline with men’s reality.

A JUNGLE IN WORDS
Kenzo returns to the jungle of its founder Takada, butwithout easy citations, animals and animalier. Except of acamouflage, with a mix of leopard and floral prints. Onlysmall patterns reveal the exotic recall. Which becomesclearer (in all senses) with the addition of lettering. Ajungle which is more written than portrayed. However, themost appealing element is the study of cuts, with which theclassical Lord Livingstone’s safari jacket is revisited: smallvents over the jackets’ sleeves at the elbow line, triangularinserts in contrasting colours and backed bermudas. Up tothe trousers hybridised with the sarong. One of the mostapplauded runways.

modelli incute soggezione, paura, inquietudine.
nulla.

CUTS AND SHARP LINESHollow and cut from an asymmetric fringe, the face of modelsarouses uneasy, fear and anxiety. A mix of feelings that attractthe attention risking penalising a rich collection. In theresearch of new volumes and new materials. But togetherwith lamé trench coats, provocatively open on ton-sur-tonbermudas, there are also almost classic black overcoats. Inshort, there is everything. Except of a bit of serenity in thevision of the man.

In l inea teorica l’esercitazione è
straordinaria.
A chi è destinata
quella tutina fantasia gialla con i calzoncini
corti? Chi potrebbe mettersi i bermuda da
marinaio che sembrano una gonna
pantalone a pieghe?
Continua a
PARIS PRESENTATIONS
NEL GORGO DELLAGAULTIERITE
Theoretically this exercise is extraordinary.Only Gaultier can design a trench coatwhich opens in the pleats of a kilt or awaistcoat, of which only the ideal bearingframe is visible. However, we don’tunderstand where his seaman candisembark when back from India with aturban on his head and trousers in pirate-style stripes. Who would wear the smallfancy yellow tracksuit with short pants? And who would wear the seamen’sbermudas seeming a pleated pant-skirt?Even fashionistas, for whom Jean Paul wasa legend in the 1980s, changed their tastes. They are by now far from the shirt that thedesigner continues to propose together withother themes such as tattoos. Despite therespect for his genius, Gaultier seems tohave lost the way. He continues to travelaround himself as he was prisoner of avortex: Gaultier style.

SOTTRAZIONI
accorcia i pantaloni.
Subtract from here, take from there: chop offsleeves and shorten trousers. Andfurthermore lighten the outerwear and swap
shoes for sandals. The result: what Miuccia Pradahad prophesied at the Milan shows as the“zeroing” of fashion.

Sailor stripes, sailing, surfing and scuba oilskins: a nautical wavevirtually swamped Paris. Refreshing it with a dive into blue.Which is also the colour of serenity and infinity.
