Personalized electronically Blended Learning (PeBL)Personalized electronically Blended Learning in Sun West School Division is a student directed process that allows student voice and choice in meeting curricular outcomes. Educators are activators of learning, enabling students to achieve personal goals at a mastery level.

Lessons may still involve a teacher instructing an entire class from time to time, but often in a PeBL classroom you will see:

· A teacher working one-on-one or with a small group of students. · Students working collaboratively in a small group solving a real world problem. · Students working independently at their own pace using online resources. · Students assessing their growth to set personal learning goals. · Flexible classroom spaces designed to support individual learning styles.

We provide learning opportunities that support students in developing the following skills:

· Communication; · Collaboration; · Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship; · Critical Thinking; · Character; · Cultural and Ethical Citizenship, and Computer and Digital Technologies

Kyle Composite School strives to foster students who are prepared for life in the 21st Century. Our innovative teachers and students engage in blended and student-centered learning experiences that develop 21st century skills and competencies. The Sun West Distance Learning Centre provides our students with opportunities to engage in elective courses catered to their individual goals and aspirations. A rich extra-curricular program also contributes to the holistic development of our students. For example, we are currently the only school in Sun West with a registered chapter of S.A.D.D.

Our school is a great place to be. We are a small school so it is like we are one big family. We have a smaller enrolment which means that everyone gets to play together during recesses and noon hour. We have multi-grade classrooms in which we all help each other out. The older students work together on different activities with the younger students in our school. We can go on cool f eld trips in one bus all together. We have special events throughout the year. Some are planned by the students and some are led by the teachers. We have traveled to Saskatoon to tour a book store and go swimming, attend the performance of Mary Poppins, and attend WE Day.We are very lucky to be partnered with Rossville and D’Arcy Schools. They have visited our school to listen to author David Bouchard. We have visited Rossville School to listen to author Jason Grey. We have joined together everyone at D’Arcy School for a Track Meet.Written by: Grade 4 and 5 students

Walter Aseltine SchoolWalter Aseltine is a Pre-K – Grade 6 elementary school. Our school is a safe place where children blossom into educated young men and women. We raise money and donate food for good causes like TeleMiracle, the local food bank, Jump Rope for Heart, WE Day and F.C.C. Drive Away Hunger. We have many activities that keep kids f t and active such as, basketball, volleyball, cross country, softball, f oor hockey, f ag football, track and f eld, and pass, punt and kick. Each year we do a Terry Fox run where we walk around our community to raise money for cancer research. We also have other fun activities like coding club, DARE, safety patrol, and folk fest. Grade 4, 5, and 6’s have the opportunity to run for the S.R.C. or the Student Representative Council. The S.R.C. helps with planning school activities like our Halloween Dance and other activities, such as, our spirit days. Our school gives opportunities for every child. Davidson School is dedicated to the success of our students. We strive to help them exceed the expected and to be the best versions of themselves. The school is very well rounded, pairing a complete academic offering with a wide range of extra-curricular activities for all youth, such as; Chess Club, Drama Club, and all senior and junior sports. Volunteers from the school take part in Meals on Wheels, Halloween Haunted House, food bank fundraisers, the 12 hour volleyball tournament and many more events. A major highlight from this past school year was our “Up To Code” project. This initiative saw every student from grade 1 to grade 12 learn and practice elements of coding throughout the year in preparation for our open showcase in May. The skills and tools from this program will lead to a Coding Club this year and some division competitions around robotics and coding in general. The staff and students take pride in the work they put into making Davidson School an innovative learning environment for all. #RaiderPride(Written by: student, Hanna Gust)

Eaton School is home to approximately 140 students and staff – all of whom are proud Spartans. Mention needs to be made that once a Spartan always a Spartan. More than a few of our staff were once former students! Our student body is enthusiastic, scholastic, artistic and of course, athletic. We offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and if not actively participating, many are there to cheer others on. A strong academic program, S.W.A.T., Power Hour, plus a whole range of sports, helps to make us a well-rounded, enthusiastic, student body ready to “Achieve Excellence in Education”. The SRC does a great job of fundraising for various worthwhile causes which usually involves many students and staff. Our ability to see beyond our own needs is what makes us a proud and noble student body. If you’re able to join us at Eaton School you will see Spartan Spirit in action.

The Royals are excited to welcome everyone to the 2016-2017 school year! Each year we try to f nd a way to mix in some new while keeping the best of our traditional practices. Our school is Grades 7-12 with approximately 50 students in each grade. We are able to offer a wide array of courses ranging from Guitar to Calculus to Construction and continue to expand the content in many of the courses as we integrate the technologies of 3D Printing, CNC Plasma, CNC Wood Carving, and green screen editing into our course work. And we have also started to explore robotics and coding. Another source of pride is our extra-curricular programs. With teams for cross country, golf, volleyball, junior and senior football, basketball, curling, badminton, and track & f eld, students have opportunities galore and successful experiences thanks in part to the dedicated coaches. The support from the parents and community has also allowed us to host Regional and Provincial Competitions. And aside from the sports, we also have had success in Drama, Choral, SRC, and Skills Canada (Construction). We provide the academics, extra-curricular, and leadership opportunities in an attempt to have as many individuals as possible build their Top 20 skills and achieve in being Above the Line. Please stop in to experience some of the Royals’ pride or check us out on line. Respect and Responsibility - Caring School Community – High Quality Education – Striving for Success

Kenaston School We have only 112 students in this quaint little school of ours. What we lack in numbers we make up for it in school spirit. We have colour teams, purple yellow and green. These teams win points by participating in school activities like gym blasts. This year the games were close but only one can come out on top. This time around that team was… Yellow! In Kenaston we’re called the Kodiak’s. We have basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton, track and f eld and even archery! All our students love to cheer on our teams and support our many activities. We have many activities like drama, SADD, SLT and we are doing a brick by brick campaign to build a school in Africa. This year we had a softball activity during lunch hours. We participate in special events as well! For example the World Class Tour. This year we ‘travelled’ to Scotland! We had a whole bunch of interactive activities such as, Scottish dancing, Scottish Style Tea, Golf, and even curling! We also have the DLC right here in Kenaston. The building was f nished in February and our Distance Learning Teachers moved over there to do their work. We now have students from all over Saskatchewan taking lessons through the DLC!Our entire school is encouraging and friendly as soon as you walk in the doors. It’s like walking in and feeling immediately welcome. After all our motto is… Success For All. (Written by: Grade 7 student, Sophie Villeneuve )

Loreburn Central School At Loreburn Central School, you’ll hear the rally cry “Leaders believe it, Aztecs achieve it!” The staff endeavors to provide unique opportunities for students to build and practice their leadership skills done in conjunction with their studies. This year we welcomed about 180 guests into our school to learn about personalized math and Leader in Me. Student weekly meetings were introduced to help students have a voice in the school’s happenings. Students also had the opportunity to present at workshops and to visit other schools to see different perspectives and gather new ideas. They say “time f ies when you’re having fun,” and it sure does at LCS!

Eston Composite SchoolEston Composite School is a K-12 school with a student population of 235. Our building is focusing on leadership opportunities which enable students to take on an even greater role in their individual learning endeavors. An increase in DLC courses has been seen with our high school students as well as a very strong focus on blended learning through the incorporation of technology in both the elementary and high school classes. We have a large contingent of students in our Sr. and Jr. SRC groups, taking part in activities such as leadership conferences, attending WE Day and holding numerous fundraisers which not only benef ts other organizations but brings our staff and students together with a strong sense of school spirit. Some of our fundraising initiatives include Telemiracle, a local food drive, Terry Fox Run, Unicef and Test Drive for Turf. Other contributions within our community involve donating to the annual Christmas Food Hampers, delivering Meals on Wheels and hosting a Community Morning. Our building has seen improvements both inside and out, including a renovation of our Home Ec. lab, library modif cations as well as new turf and the addition of new playground equipment. Our SCC members have a strong desire to bring the best to our building and are very supportive of school initiatives. The hard work and dedication of our students has been recognized in both academics and athletics with achievement being attained at the provincial level. We continue to strive to achieve our vision of “Success for All.”

Beechy School is a small K-12 school of 74 students. Everyone in this school knows everyone, which creates a caring atmosphere. The teachers at Beechy School are always there for the students, whether it is to help the student understand a diff cult concept in Math, or to just chat about last night’s game. The staff is always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand. The teachers encourage the students to strive for excellence and help them on the journey. Beechy School students strive to be good citizens and are very involved around the community. Whether it means cleaning up the town on Earth Day, or helping to clean up after the community Rummage Sale, there are always students and teachers ready to help out within the community. The community takes part in activities around the school, such as the “Senior’s Tea” that was held for the town’s seniors, sports events, drama productions and participating in our “One School, One Book” project. Beechy School is also involved outside of the community: our SRC sent money to Fort McMurray and kind messages to La Loche to help them out in their times of need, and this year we took part in “Jump Rope for Heart” to raise awareness for the “Heart and Stroke Foundation”. Beechy School tries to offer as many learning and extra-curricular options to the students as possible. In our school there are many extra-curricular activities that students can take part in, such as SRC, yearbook, volleyball, curling, track and f eld, and badminton. Beechy School has given us the opportunity to succeed in life, and the skills to succeed. (Written by: Grade 12 student, Nicole Thompson)

At KCS, one of our priorities is building relationships with students, parents, and the community. We strive to provide our students and parents opportunities to become a part of our learning community, hosting numerous events and activities within our school, including our Fall Open House, various sporting events and band concerts throughout the year, and annual spring Student-Teacher Game & BBQ (this past year it was a very passionate slow-pitch game that the staff won 9-6!). We are also community minded, and invest in our local and global communities by participating in activities like the Me to We initiative, hosting a Telemiracle Talent Night and an Art Auction to raise money for various needs, and Interact (Junior Rotarians) to name a few! This past year we even had a group of students visit Caleb Village – a retirement housing community – helping the residents familiarize themselves with a world of technology new to them. KCS also tries to engage students by offering numerous interesting, challenging, and up-to-date courses for our students, hoping to prepare them for entry to university, apprenticeship in the trades, or the workforce. The list of courses we offer is extensive and we take a lot of pride in the face-to-face courses we offer, working hard to make them engaging and challenging. Students can check out all of the regular core courses, as well as electives including Leadership, Cosmetology, Photography (we even have a Green Screen!), Accounting, a very talented Band, Mechanics, Construction, Welding, Foods, Psychology, and SO much more!! We even have an in-house Distant Ed Lab! All throughout the year, our SLC plans events for the school and brings in speakers to help challenge and inspire us. There is also a wide range of extra-curricular options for students to plug into, to meet new people, and develop new skills. Life is never boring at KCS – there are just too many ways to get involved and make some amazing memories!

Rossville School Rossville School is a small rural school. We have about 30 students from Kindergarten to Grade 7. We are lucky to have three innovative teachers who are always f nding new ways to engage their students in the learning. Being a small school allows us to plan activities for the whole school and for the families of our students. Our grade 5, 6 & 7 students attend Elizabeth Middle School in Kindersley every Day 1, 3 and 5 for Band, Physical Education, PAA and Health. This is an excellent opportunity for them to work with other students at their grade level. During the 2016 – 2017 school year our students will be collaborating with students from Harris-Tessier and D’Arcy. We are looking forward to work with those students and staff members. We have started these relationships over the last year with each of the three school’s hosting an event at their school. At Rossville we are excited to start looking closer at how we can implement personalized learning. We are already doing some of this due to the small grade groupings we have in our school. It is exciting to be exploring new learning opportunities for our students. Just because we are small it does not mean that we are not energetic. This last year we have celebrated everyone’s birthdays, monthly book club awards, skating, Free the Children, Terry Fox Walk, Mother’s Day Tea, Christmas Program, SCC sponsored dance, hot lunches, and the SCC Family Fun Night are just a few of the things we have done. We extend a warm welcome to all and invite you to come and visit our school!

North West Central SchoolNorth West Central School in Plenty is a K-12 school with about 170 students. Most of our students are bussed to Plenty from the neighboring farming communities of Dodsland, Kelf eld, Ruthilda, and Stranraer. We have many exciting things going on in our school over the course of the school year. In September, we have several sports teams including football, volleyball, golf and cross-country. In addition, our school always raises several thousand dollars for cancer research at the Terry Fox Foundation. In October, our YMCR group collects hundreds of pounds of food for the local food banks with the Drive Away Hunger Campaign. Our students participate in the Royal Canadian Legion essay, poem and poster contests with many students advancing to zone, district and sometimes even provincial and national levels. In Decem-ber, we host either a Christmas concert or festival. In January our SLC organizes a pancake breakfast to celebrate the half way mark of the school year. February brings curling and basketball for extra-curricular activities, followed by We Day, badminton and heritage, science or reading fair. In May and June, we have track and f eld, f eld trips and, of course, f nal exams and graduation. We are thankful at NWCS for the support that we receive from parents, grandparents and community members. Their support adds to both curricular and extra-curricular successes at NWCS!!

Sun West Distance Learning CentreThe Sun West Distance Learning Centre (DLC) is based in Kenaston and offers learners from across the province access to more than 120 online courses, including all core classes from K-12 and a wide variety of interest-based high school electives including; Paleontology, Power Engineering, and Astronomy, to Equine Studies, Graphic Arts, and Interior Design we have the most diverse selection of online high school electives available in Saskatchewan.

Our courses are specif cally developed for distance learning environments. Moodle, an online information management system, hosts all lessons, course materials and assignments which means that learners can access their course when and where it best suits them. And our rolling registration policy invites learners to enrol with us at any time of the year, regardless of where we are on the traditional school calendar. Or maybe your learner is looking to explore a specif c subject that isn’t offered at their school? Or maybe they have to be away from the school for an extended period of time due to long term family travel plans or even an unplanned interruption? Alternatively, they may be looking to get a head start on their post secondary education and would benef t from one of our dual credit courses.

The DLC is also a great option for students who home school. Students receive a high quality education in elementary, middle level, and high school grades. The DLC allows individuals to earn credits that may have been missed in high school or to earn a high school diploma, including Adult 12 programming.

Our PAA program offers a variety of modules featuring project art, cooking, sewing, wellness, tourism and citizenship. In the upcoming year we will have one teacher delivering the Physical Education program, focusing on a well rounded program that extends to use of community opportunities and facilities. We challenge our students to be engaged in the school and the community both locally and globally. A broad offering of extra-curricular clubs and sports at the junior and senior levels includes; football, volleyball, basketball, cross country, track, badminton, drama, knitting, cooking club, photography club, and interact club. Elrose Composite SchoolAside from the importance of academics and athletics in our school, Elrose School staff and students are always busy planning and participating in seasonal activities. One of our goals is to try and include our community, as much as possible, in our events. The 2015/16 school year included school and community participation in an annual Terry Fox Walk, the SRC celebrated Halloween helping younger ECS students carve pumpkins, and, since our community has a very active Legion, our school values participating in an annual Remembrance Day Service. We enjoy inviting guests to visit our classrooms to talk about things we are studying in class and looked forward to Mystery Readers in our Library. Christmas season is always marked by a banquet on the last day of school before Christmas vacation. After Christmas, our grade 6 – 12 students look forward to their annual Table Mountain ski trip in February. Spring brings a whole new set of activities – this year we celebrated April 13 Day of Pink learning all about the Circle of Courage with our focus on belonging. Our Grade Seven PAA group made a Buddy Bench for our playground which our elementary students stamped their hand prints on during our Day of Pink festivities. Throughout the school year, our SRC fundraised enough money to purchase a projector screen to mount in our gymnasium. Through a Ford Drive 4UR School event and several noon meals, the SRC raised over $5000 towards the purchase of this new projector screen. Another important recent event to mention was the building of our new playground – our SCC worked hard for over a year to raise the funds needed to purchase our new equipment. Elrose Composite School is an eventful, happening place!

Outlook High School Outlook High School is a great place to be. We are a grades 6-12 school of 315 students and 35 staff members; serving students from Outlook, Conquest, Macrorie, Broderick, and Glenside areas. In addition to a comprehensive slate of academic classes, we also offer a variety of Practical and Applied Arts courses, a f ourishing band program, and student leadership groups at both the senior and junior levels. This year, we completed a renovation on two of our classrooms, creating a large Multipurpose room. This space is used currently as a whole grade teaching space, a senior cafeteria, and a small group instructional space throughout the day. For the 2016-2017 school year, it will be transitioned into a PeBL classroom. Our school has a dynamic and vibrant School Community Council. The SCC is actively involved in leading many activities at OHS including sponsoring our 47th annual awards night and working with the school on assessment goals. This year we worked with our community, staff, student body, and SCC to develop a new Vision Statement. The winning vision: “To foster a safe, positive learning environment in which all students can f nd success as lifelong learners”.
