Patriots of the Week

The Boon PTA would like to recognize Liesl Bowman. She worked hard to plan andorganize the 2017 Teacher and Staff Appreciation. Our staff is the best and we thankyou for helping us honor them! The Boon faculty truly appreciates all of the love andsupport that has been shown to them. Thank you, Liesl!

Another special "Thank You" goes out to Noemi Sanchez, Neha Gandhi and MartiEger. These ladies helped monitor students during the lunch hour in the Cafeteria onour two large STAAR testing days last week. We appreciate you making the time in themiddle of the day to help out!

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

Boon will celebrate Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week May 15-19. This year is a SUPER HERO theme. Each day we willcelebrate our Teachers and Staff! Participation in this week forany or all is at each family's discretion.

THURSDAY, MAY 18

School Supply Day - Students are encouraged to bring in items on their teacher'ssupply wish list. Be sure to check "specials" teachers list, also if your childparticipates in these program(s): (IE: AIM, SSI, DEAR, ESL etc.).

FRIDAY, MAY 19

Today is Gift day! Your child(ren) can honor and celebrate their HomeroomTeacher and any Specials Teacher with a Gift or Gift Card to one of their favorite

locations. Teacher's "favorites" list provided to help with your selection. This is ateach family's discretion. Be sure to look at your child(ren)'s specials teacher alsoif they participate in those programs. i.e: AIM, SSI, DEAR, ESL etc. to recognizethem as well! Cheri Myers has a "Teachers Favorites" binder.

Gift Card Grab Bag Day (For our non-classroom staff members)

We are requesting $5 gift card donations (IE: Starbucks, Sonic, Chick-fil-A, 7-11,etc.) for Boon's non-classroom staff members. These will be distributed amongstthe staff in grab bag style throughout the day. We want to appreciate all the staffmembers! The cards will need to be in an envelope marked Staff/Liesl Bowman.Please send in your $5 gift cards to your Room Parent or Grade Level Coordinatorby Tuesday, May 18.

Spring Picture Updates

Individual Spring Pictures have gone home and Classpictures are coming home in your child's backpack today...

Individual Spring Pictures: If you have not yet reviewedyour child's individual Spring portrait packet please do so as soon as possible.Please return the unwanted pictures and provide payment for the pictures youdecided to keep. Send this in with your child to return to their teacher.

Class Pictures: Lifetouch has printed a few extra group pictures for eachclassroom. If you forgot to purchase your child's class picture and would still likeone, please send $13 in cash or check to the school office in a sealed envelopewith your child's name, teacher name and "Class Photo" written on the outside.Please send the exact amount if paying with cash as we don't have a way tomake change. If paying by check, remember to put your Driver's License # onthe memo line of your check.

6th Grade Panoramic Pictures: We have not received these pictures yet. Aswith the class pictures, if you would like to purchase one of the 6th GradePanoramic, Please send $19 in cash or check to the school office in a sealedenvelope with your child's name, teacher name and "6th Grade Panoramic"written on the outside.

Field Day Volunteer Sign Up

It's that time of year again...time for one of the mostanticipated events of the school year! On May 19, the PEstaff will provide a fun-filled and exciting event for your child (2017 Field Day), but yourhelp is needed to make it a success.

Volunteers are needed throughout the day (see link below).

Picnic Cake Walk Donations

Picnic Cake Walk donations are needed for thethe 12th Annual Boon Family Picnic! Drop off yourgoodies on May 25, 8am-3pm, at Boon.

Cakes and pies need to be either in a storebought container or wrapped incellophane.Cupcakes need to have 2-4 wrapped in cellophane all together.Small brownies or cookies need to be wrapped 6 to a package.Drop off the cake walk donations at the Front Office.

Greater Outdoor Learning Day (G.O.L.D) Day Needs You!

A huge thank you to the parents and volunteers that have signed up to present for thisyear's GOLD Day event, scheduled for Friday, May 26. Foundation for Allen Schools - Angela GuestMemorial Scholarship

This scholarship was awarded to two students, eachreceiving $1,000 in memory of Mrs. Guest's daughter.Angela had worked at Boon's Kids Club and was a 2009 graduate of Allen High School.She was known for SPRINKING KINDNESS and making cupcakes for others. Thewinners were Anna Kemp (Boon, Ereckson, Lowery, AHS) and Kushal Patel (Ereckson,Lowery, AHS).

This scholarship is supported each year by 3rd Grades Service Project of CupcakeSales. This year the sale will be on Thursday, May 25, 2017. Cost of each cupcake is$.75 and will be purchased after lunch times. Start saving your quarters now!

Cupcake Sale - 3rd Grade Service Project

On Thursday, May 25, Boon Elementary third graders are

participating in a service project. The bake sale project will raisemoney for the Foundation for Allen Schools, benefiting The AngelaGuest Memorial Scholarship for Allen students.

Students will be allowed to purchase cupcakes after theirlunch.Each cupcake will cost $0.75.

This memorial scholarship was given by friends and family ofAngela Guest. The scholarship is open to all Allen High School Seniors who have alearning difference (Dyslexia, Learning Disability, 504 Plan, ADHD, etc.) OR who plan topursue a career in the medical field (Doctor, Physician's Assistant, Nursing, etc.). It ispresented annually at the Senior Award Assembly in May.

Angela was known for "Sprinkling Kindness", to others throughout her life, sharingcupcakes, kind words, and smiles. A Sprinkle of Kindness can start with something assimple as a bake sale.

Let's raise money for this wonderful scholarship. Collect your quarters and send themin with your child.

Movie Night in the Park (New Date)

Join us on June 9 at 8:15pm in the Day Spring NaturePreserve for a free movie night.

Bring your blankets, chairs, and refreshments - noalcohol is permitted.Free popcorn and water will be distributed while supplies last.

The featured presentation will be "The Jungle Book" - rated PG. This event is hosted by the Allen Parks Foundation.

Boon Bowling Teams

The first annual Allen ISD Rock N BowlTournament was held last Saturday at JBs AllenBowl. All 17 Elementary schools competed withteams of 5th graders in both the Girls and Boysdivisions.

The Boon boys team included BrandonGonzalez, Ryan Mulady, LathanWardworth, Zina Umeozulu, and VrajPatel.

The Boon girls team, called the Pin Heads,included Kelsey Bettison, Camila Bianchi, Katelyn White, and MeghanaKothamasu. The Pin Heads ended in 3rd place and were the only girls team tobowl over 100 in any single game!

We are so proud of all of our Boon Bowlers! Thanks for representing our school!

Attendance Reminders

What do I do when my student is sick and will not be in school?

Please call the Boon Front Office at 972-747-3331 to report your childsick providing the symptoms of the illness. When your student is feeling betterand returns to school, please send in a written note with your student stating thereason of the absence. Upon receipt of the sick note, the absence will beexcused.

What do I do when my student has an appointment and will be late to school?

Please call the Boon Front Office at 972-747-3331 to report your child will be lateto school and why they will be late. If you were at a doctor or dentistappointment, please provide a note from your doctor/dentist when your studentreports to school.

What do I do when I check my student out early from school?

Provide yourself plenty of time to check out your student. When arriving to schoolto check out your student, please have your identification with you.

If your student is being checked out for a doctor/dentist appointment,please have your student turn in a doctor/dentist note the following school dayto excuse the early dismissal.

If your student is being checked out for personal reason any time duringthe day, it will either be considered a full day's absence (unexcusedbefore 10am) or a partial day absence (unexcused after 10am).

Do I notify the school of a pending absence due to travel?

Yes, please contact the Front Office as soon as you know your students willbe traveling. If the travel consists of 3 or more consecutive days, anextended travel form has to be completed. Absences due to travel areunexcused.

Boon Severe Weather Protocols

Spring is here, which can mean an increase in severe weather for North Texas! Pleasenote our protocols for drop-off or dismissal times in the event of severe weatherconditions. Our goal is to maintain the safety for all students and staff. Thank you foryour cooperation!

Boon Severe Weather Addendum

In the event of severe weather, Boon Elementary staff will place RED flags outsideof the building to indicate altered drop-off or dismissal procedures. These flags willalert you that Boon staff will NOT be facilitating student delivery to or from cars.

In case of severe lightning/wind/rain, you are welcome to walk up to your child'sdismissal door & Boon staff will facilitate arrival or release.

If we are under a tornado warning, Allen ISD protocol requires school staff andstudents to take shelter. Signs will be placed on exit doors notifying you of ournon-release status. Please take appropriate shelter & reference the Allen ISDinformation sites for updates.
