Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families

Public Speaking and DebatingIn recent weeks, we have been reporting our success in public speaking and debating. We are so very proud to announce that our very own Reese Vowels from 1F was the winner of the North and West Lake Macquarie Stage 1 Public Speaking Final. The final was held at Speers Point Public School. Reese thoroughly entertained her audience with a speech about the Tooth Fairy. Following on from that success, our Premier’s Debating Challenge team won their round 4 debate against Edgeworth Public School around the topic of Health and Fitness. Premier’s Spelling Bee Congratulations to Keagan and Elea our Senior representatives and to Alakai and Breanna our Junior representatives, on successfully gaining a place in the Regional Final of the 2018 Premier’s Spelling Bee. On Monday September 3, at Warners Bay Public School, these four amazing spellers will represent our school and participate for the chance to head to the Sydney state finals. Booragul Public School is very proud of their achievements and the whole school community wishes them good luck as they compete in this prestigious competition. Lyn Stevens Learning and Support Teacher

Yakka Day Young Aboriginal people from Years 5 through to Year 12 are invited to attend Yakka Day on Wednesday 19 September at Newcastle Basketball Stadium. This day aims to link education with job skills and allows students to try-a-skill related to a future occupation. Students are invited to take their parent / carer and a friend to the event. Please look out for the permission note for this day.

DUGS Day We look forward to welcoming Dads, Uncles and Grandfathers into our school on Friday morning to celebrate Fathers’ Day.

Visiting Our School School and family partnerships are an integral part of a child’s success at school. We strongly welcome and encourage parent involvement in student learning. We do; however, request that parents and visitors to our school follow work site procedures and report to the office on arrival to the school. All visitors to our school must sign in and out and visibly wear a visitor badge or sticker.

Student Mobile Phones If your child brings a personal mobile phone to school, it is requested that they sign the phone in at the school office on arrival to school. Phones can be collected at the end of the school day. While we strongly support student safety and students being able to communicate with their parents /carers on transit to and from school, students should not be using mobile phones during class time.

PBL This week’s focus is: Transitions.

Volunteers Needed As you can see, the canteen is in need of some help! As I found out recently when I did my first volunteer session in the canteen, the commitment is not the whole school day; in fact I helped out a bit, went home to let the dogs out and have a coffee, then came back for a bit. The canteen does need help but there are flexible ways that help can be organised or provided by you so consider helping out and get in touch with Sue in the canteen. Thank you! With the disco on Wednesday 5 September the canteen really needs some volunteers in the evening while the event takes place. Please speak with Sue if you can help.

Fresh for Kids promotion The Fresh for Kids promotion is underway and running until 21 September, Lakeside Lunchbox will be running the Fresh for Kids promotion where kids can eat fresh and win. Every time an item of food containing fruit and veggies is purchased, the child will receive a sticker which is place on the associated card. When the card is full it can be redeemed for a foil pack and the chance to win one of several prizes including Garmin Vivofit Junior watches, Tupperware Lunch Packs and a Microsoft Xbox One X. Eat fresh for your chance to win!
