One of the primary reasons for this link lies in four verbs which occur in both texts: take, bless, break, and give. By the use of the verbs, both texts are used to explore the meaning of each other. Through the care shown in feeding the 5,000 from the miraculous mulplica- on, we learn that our celebraon of the Eucharist is not just for our private spiritual life but must lead us to go out and serve those in need. Similarly, we learn that we cannot serve the needy from our own poor resources, but need to be sustained by the life of Christ that we receive in the Eucharist. Having received we can then share from the very life of God. But there is an extraverb in this reading which, though it does not appear in the instuon of the Eucharist, gives an extra dimension to our ability to serve. This Feasts Gospel states that aſter he had taken the bread Jesus looked up to heavenbefore he blessed it. Not only was Jesus seen by God in his acons, he looked to God as he acted. And surely this was a gaze of love that went between the two. This we are called to do, both when we celebrate Eucharist and when we serve. We are not to be mere servants of God, keeping our eyes to the ground, working away at being good and trying to fulfil the rules and regulaons we know we should do. Rather we should be connually raising our eyes in love and drawing strength from the gaze of love that God is lavishing upon us. This will transform our lives. If we feel that our service of God and others feels like a form of drudgery, it is because we are drawing our energy from the wrong source, our selves. But if we are connually looking to the gaze of God, it will be the life of Christ that will sustain us and our service will become another form of celebraon of the Eucharist. © Sr Kym Harris OSB www.prayasyoucan.com.au CHURCH RENOVATIONS - You will have noced when you came to mass this weekend that safety fencing has now been put in place around the exterior of Sacred Heart Church. REFLECTION

There is a strong link made between this Gospel text and the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. One of the primary reasons for this link lies in four verbs which occur in both texts: take, bless, break, and give. By the use of the verbs, both texts are used to explore the meaning of each other. Through the care shown in feeding the 5,000 from the miraculous multiplica-tion, we learn that our celebration of the Eucharist is not just for our private spiritual life but must lead us to go out and serve those in need. Similarly, we learn that we cannot serve the needy from our own poor resources, but need to be sustained by the life of Christ that we receive in the Eucharist. Having received we can then share from the very life of God.

But there is an ‘extra’ verb in this reading which, though it does not appear in the institution of the Eucharist, gives an extra dimension to our ability to serve. This Feast’s Gospel states that after he had taken the bread “Jesus looked up to heaven” before he blessed it. Not only was Jesus seen by God in his actions, he looked to God as he acted. And surely this was a gaze of love that went between the two. This we are called to do, both when we celebrate Eucharist and when we serve. We are not to be mere servants of God, keeping our eyes to the ground, working away at being good and trying to fulfil the rules and regulations we know we should do. Rather we should be continually raising our eyes in love and drawing strength from the gaze of love that God is lavishing upon us. This will transform our lives. If we feel that our service of God and others feels like a form of drudgery, it is because we are drawing our energy from the wrong source, our selves. But if we are continually looking to the gaze of God, it will be the life of Christ that will sustain us and our service will become another form of celebration of the Eucharist.

FEAST OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS - This Friday 28th June the school will be celebrating our Feast day with a mass in the Amare Centre [School Hall]. All parishioners are most welcome to join with the school in this special celebra-tion. REPORT FROM ST VINCENT DE PAUL - Booval-Riverview Con-ference for the four months ended 31st May 2019. Our members attended 339 home visits comprising some 491 adults and 395 children with food vouchers amounting to $10,159 and in kind assistance of $6,075 totalling some $16,234.

CWL - Hoy & Euchre will be held in the Parish Centre this Wednesday 26th June at 10.00am. All welcome “They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets.” (Luke 9:17) The story of the Loaves and Fishes shows us that when we share what we have, even if it doesn’t seem like that much, miracles can happen! Do not think that your gift is too small or insignificant! God blesses all the gifts we offer and makes them wondrous. A VOCATION VIEW: Food usually becomes more when it is given than when it is taken - The more Jesus is given, the more we share Him, the more He increases.

ENTRANCE HYMN

We Walk By Faith

We walk by faith, and not by sight:

No gracious words we hear

Of him who spoke as none e’er spoke,

But we believe him near.

Help then, O Lord, our unbelief,

And may our faith abound;

To call on you when you are near,

And seek where you are found:

APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

OFFERTORY

By Your Priestly Power, O Risen Lord

By your priestly power, O risen Lord,

All we lost and needed is restored.

God in our communion be adored.

At your hands, Lord, we are fed,

hands that guide and do not falter,

wounded hands that broke the bread

on this altar.

At your hands we seek release

from the evils that assail us,

for we know the Bread of Peace

will not fail us.

In the world that we have known

selfish, loud, vain passions riot;

Lord, with you, with you alone

is deep quiet.

To that world we must return

sharing in its hopes and labour,

bringing to it Christ’s concern

for our neighbour.

COMMUNION Bread of Life

Bread of life, hope of the world,

Jesus Christ, our brother:

Feed us now, give us life,

Lead us to one another.

As we proclaim your death,

As we recall your life,

We remember your promise

To return again.

The bread we break and share

Was scattered once as grain:

Just as now it is gathered,

Make your people one.

We eat this living bread,

We drink this saving cup:

Sign of hope in our broken world,

Source of lasting love.

Hold us in unity,

In love for all to see;

That the world may believe in you,

God of all who live.

You are the bread of peace,

You are the wine of joy,

Broken now for your people,

Poured in endless love.

RECESSIONAL

Song of the Body of Christ We come to share our story,

We come to break the bread,

We come to know our rising

from the dead.

We come as your people,

We come as your own,

United with each other, love finds a home.

We will live and sing your praises,

“Alleluia” is our song.

May we live in love and peace

our whole life long.
