REFLECTION

It is difficult for leaders to call people to accountability. Such is the unenviable responsibility of pastors in the parish, coordinators of religious education, members of the parish council, principals in the school, directors of liturgical ministry, to name but a few. Disciples must also engage in the very difficult process of reconciliation. Differences of opinion, misunderstandings, and ac-tual offences tend to alienate people. We see this happen in families, neigh-bourhoods, parish communities, workplaces. It is not enough to say that we must try to forgive from our hearts. The process of reconciliation requires sig-nificant movement toward the admission of guilt as well. Both the one offend-ed and the offender must be willing to be transformed.

Gathering two or three together in prayerful collaboration is not as easy as it sounds. If collaboration is to be effective, we have to be open and honest about our opinions and our biases, and respectful of the opinions and biases of others. We must work for the common good and not merely for what we personally think is best. We must be willing to accept and implement deci-sions with which we may not totally agree, and we must live with them grace-fully. All of this calls for unselfish love. Love fulfils the entire law only: when we honour our personal commitments and the personal commitments of oth-ers; when we value the life, dignity and reputation of others; and when we respect their possessions. It is only because love is so demanding that it co-vers all of our responsibilities.

The annual collection for the support of the church in the Ho-ly Land normally takes place on Good Friday. This year, due to the closure of churches around the world during Holy Week because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Pope Francis moved the date for this collection to SUNDAY September 13th to coincide with the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross on September 14th. This collection promotes the missionary work of the Church in the Holy Land by providing welfare as-sistance to local Christians in areas such as health, education, employment and housing. Parishes, schools, orphanages and medical centres throughout the Holy Land also rely on assis-tance from this collection. Please remember the Christians of the Holy Land on Sunday September 13th and please also keep them in your prayers. Thank you.

CONGRATULATIONS to Paul & Barbara Engelbrecht who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 5th September. God’s blessings to you both on this special occasion.

WEEKEND MASSES - The maximum number for both church-es is (50). You are not required to book for weekday Mass but must book in for weekend Masses.

Sat. 12th September - Booval 5.00pm Sun. 13th September - Riverview 7.00am

Sun. 13th September - Booval 9.00am Sun. 13th September - Booval 5.00pm

If you would like to attend one of these Masses please phone 3282 1888 or email: [email protected] to make a booking. Bookings need to be made no later than 2pm Fri-day.

N.B. Please remember if you are feeling unwell please stay home and take care of yourself.

“You, son of man, have appointed watchman for the house of Israel…” (Ezekiel 33:7) Many of us are generous with our gifts. How-ever, many of us are not generous in propor-

tion to the gifts we have been given. How often do we give at the minimum level required? Remember, the Lord calls us to nurture and develop our gifts. He calls us to be generous with all the gifts He has given us, especially the one that means the most to us.

Trish Watter is my name and I am a reader at the 9am Sunday

Mass.

I became a parishioner in Sacred Heart Parish when a great

friend Ann Topping use to bring me Holy Communion for

years after I had a stroke. She was an active member of the

Parish. Anne had to have surgery so Martin Smith brought

me Holy Communion and I suggested to him that when I felt

well could he take me to Mass. After a few Sundays I said I’d

like to read again and the rest is history.

What I like about Sacred Heart Parish is the friendly caring

parishioners who I have got to know. I’ve been in parishes

from Perth to Yeppoon over the years and I have never found

such a great parish. We are blessed by the spiritual priests we

have been assigned.

My dream for the parish is that the school children will con-

tinue to come to Mass as they grow up and hopefully will be-

come actively involved in the parish.

I would invite colleagues to the parish to let them see the love

of God that develops by attending the parish Masses.

PROCESSIONAL HYMN

We Are Many Parts

We are many parts, we are all one body,

And the gifts we have

we are given to share,

May the Spirit of Love

make us One indeed,

One, the Love that we share,

One, our Hope in despair,

One, the Cross that we bear.

God of all, we look to you,

We would be your servants true,

Let us be your love to all the world.

All you seekers great and small,

Seek the greatest gift of all,

If you love, then you will know the Lord.

NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. OFFERTORY

COMMUNION Here At This Table

Come and be filled here at this table.

Food for all who hunger

and drink for all who thirst.

Drink of his love, wine of salvation.

You shall live forever

in Jesus Christ the Lord.

You who labor for justice,

You who labor for peace,

You who steady the plow

In the field … … of the Lord … … .

You with lives full of pain,

You who sorrow and weep,

You, beloved of Christ,

Come to him … … , come to him … … !

You, the aged among us,

Holy, faithful and wise,

May the wisdom you share

Form our lives … … and our world … … !

RECESSIONAL City of God

Awake from your slumber!

Arise from your sleep!

A new day is dawning

for all those who weep.

The people in darkness

have seen a great light.

The Lord of our longing

has conquered the night.

Let us build the city of God.

May our tears be turned into dancing!

For the Lord, our light and our love,

Has turned the night into day!

O city of gladness,

Now lift up your voice!

Proclaim the good tidings

That all may rejoice!
