Principal’s Address
Hello Bororen Community, Bororen State School students have been very busy and I must say that I am exceptionally proud of the behaviour and learning choices they have all been making. These choices have ensured that our school is a peaceful and safe place for them all to learn and engage with the world around them. Payment of School Invoices
Invoices for outstanding fees were sent out last week. We are excited that we are now
able to offer PayPoint. A short information brochure on how to
use this online payment option was included with the invoices and
for your convenience we have also included this information in
this newsletter, on our Facebook page and on our webpage.
This is now our preferred method of payment as it means that when you pay your
invoice the amount comes directly off your account whilst also going straight into the
school bank account. This means that we then do not have cash on site therefore also
reduces the work load for our wonderful Debbie. If you do not have access to a
computer we are more than happy for you to access the site via the school computers so
that you can then process your payment.
Reminder— As per the Education Department Guidelines all Resource Levies and Camp
Fees must be paid in full by the end of the Term 2.
What is BPOINT?
BPoint is a secure card payment collection portal provided by the Commonwealth Bank
of Australia (CBA)
What was BPOINT implemented?
BPOINT was implemented to reduce school workloads associated with manually
allocating payments received via direct deposit to school invoices. BPOINT is the
preferred payment method for the department due to the efficiency that automated
receipting brings to schools.
What are the advantages of using BPOINT?
BPOINT allows the secure collection of card payments. Parents or other customers can
make payments on school invoices from their homes and offices or from their
smartphones. Payments made via BPOINT are auto-receipted and auto-matched in
Oneschool Finance which reduces the time and effort for school admin staff when
compared to manual receipting and manual allocation of payments. There is no
additional work required by school staff on payments made via BPOINT.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
The Positive Behaviour for Learning for Week 5 and 6 focus is “Being Respectful” by “Respecting others right to
learn”. This means that students allow other student to complete their work without distraction.
This Looks like: All students busily doing their work.
This Sounds like: Calm and quiet. The talk is work-related. The teacher is giving students positive feedback for
concentrating on their jobs.
This feels like: Can feel calm, productive, energetic and busy depending on the activity. Students feel proud for
being able to complete work.
All students will be working hard to demonstrate “Respecting others right to learn”. I wish to thank our parents and the broader school community for helping us ensure that the students understand and uphold the our school rules of: BE SAFE BE RESPECTFUL BE RESPONSIBLE warm regards,
Kim-Maree and staff THOUGHT OF THE WEEK - “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it
is the only thing that ever has." ~Margaret Mead

Ten Ways to Encourage Responsibility,
Independence and Self-Management
1. Communicate unconditional love and approval regardless of whether or
not your child makes cooperative choices. 2. Be a role model. Be willing to change behaviours, beliefs and attitudes
that do not work. 3. Offer choices within limits you find acceptable. 4. Trust your child’s ability to make good decisions, even if you haven’t had much evidence yet. 5. Limit the number of choices you make for your child, even though you know what’s best. 6. Start thinking of consequences as the positive outcomes of your child’s cooperative actions. 7. Respect your child’s needs and desires, as they do matter. 8. Examine why you may feel threatened when your child demonstrates independence. 9. Allow your children to experience the consequences of their poor choices. 10. Allow your children to take responsibility for their behaviour and make positive changes.

Term 2 Week 5
School Lunch Inspiration! Ingredients
1 1/3 cups plain flour, plus extra for dusting 7g sachet dry yeast 1/4 teaspoon caster sugar Pinch of salt 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1/4 cup pizza sauce 1 1/4 cups grated mozzarella 12 fresh basil leaves, plus extra to serve 250g cherry tomatoes, halved (see topping variations in Notes) 1/4 teaspoon dried mixed herbs Method
Step 1 Preheat oven to 200 C/180 C fan-forced. Grease a 12-hole (1/3-cup-capacity) muffin pan.
Step 2 Combine flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Make a well. Whisk oil and 2/3 cup warm water in a jug. Add to well. Mix to form a soft, sticky dough. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes or until dough springs back when touched.
Step 3 Roll out dough until 5mm thick. Using a 7cm round cut-ter, cut 12 rounds from dough, re-rolling and cutting trimmings if needed. Line holes of prepared pan with dough rounds, pushing into pan to come 3/4 up side of each hole. Step 4 Spread pizza sauce over base and sides of pizza bases. Sprinkle with a little of the mozzarella. Top each pizza base with a basil leaf, then tomato. Sprinkle with remaining cheese, then dried herbs. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until bases are golden and cheese is melted. Stand in pan for 5 minutes. Carefully transfer to a baking paper-lined wire rack to cool. Serve warm or cold.

Update from the Prep—2 Classroom
Last week we were treated to a great surprise when 3 of the fantastic Gladstone Power Basketball players- Mat, Pat and Shak come to our little school to show us some really cool moves and then teach us how to also play like professionals. Every-one was lucky enough to spend time with each of the players and learn how to move our body weight when doing a chest pass, shoot goals and do lots of fancy balls skills passing the ball around our legs.
Hope everyone continues to practice these skills at home because some more play-ers will be coming to school again as part of the Sporting School funding. This funding has allowed us to buy some new balls and we will soon have some smaller shooting goals.
Don’t forget home reading every night to add to your reading tally and all sight words are in your spelling books to practice as well. On Fridays don’t forget your library bag.
URGENT— WE NEED PARENT HELPERS FOR
READING IN THE MORNING! Pop into the big classroom anytime from 8.15am onwards to listen
to our amazing students read.
All students from BOTH classes read EVERY MORNING!
By reading EVERY MORNING for
10 minutes = 50 minutes of reading a week = life long readers!
Term 2 Week 5
Update from the 3—6 Classroom
Science
This term in science we are investigating lifecycles and how environmental factors affect animals and where they live. Jess Ferris has been kind enough to donate her incubator and some eggs so that we can have a real life experience of hatching eggs. We will be keeping a calendar to make sure we leave them in for 21 days and also need to keep an eye on the temperature and humidity (which we learnt about this week).
Year 3 and 4 and 5 are researching animals and putting together a project about lifecycles and habitats and Year 6 will be investigating the growth of mould in a controlled environment.
The Arts
In the arts this week we are learning about patterns in the playground. We have taken photos of our school environment where there are patterns. These will be our inspiration.
We are learning that aboriginal artists use patterns and symbols to tell a story. We used some examples of dot painting to create our own artwork that told a story.
