Manual Radiator ValvesFeatures and benefitsThe valves have a chrome plated finish making them hard wearing, attractive and stylish. With a dual 15mm x 1⁄2in connection, they suitboth copper and iron pipework. The matching lock shieldcomplements the wheel head and TRV design. The concealed lockshield cap requires an Allen key to adjust flow, preventing accidentaltampering.

The upper O-ring seal can be changed without draining down, whichminimises down-time thus saving cost on site.

Approved to BS2767-10; guaranteed internal dimensions, minimisingresistance to ensure maximum flow. Valves are suited for both openvented and sealed systems.

Chrome plated wheel head angle valve

Introduction

For a hundred years, has built a reputation for qualityand expertise in valve solutions in the UK. This has beenachieved by working closely with leading manufacturers toproduce unique BOSS branded products to compliment theestablished ranges in the marketplace.

Customers taking a valve can be assured they aregetting a high quality product at a competitive price. branded products are available across a wide range ofapplications: heating, pumping, consumables and bracketryand the valve offering is the most comprehensive own-brandrange in the market today.

The Range

The radiator valve range consists of 4 manualradiator valves and a choice of up to 24 TRV options

The range of Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV’s)comprises three different 1⁄2 body patterns – angle, reverseangle (axial) and straight – with a choice of pre-setting andnon presetting options making six valves in all.

These bodies are complemented by four different thermalheads, standard, remote sensing and remote adjusting in 2mand 8m capillary lengths.

All thermal heads and bodies in the range are compatiblewith each other and approved to EN 215.

The bodies are all approved to EN 215 and other standardse.g. BS EN1254 where EN215 does not specify theconnection type.

The thermal heads all incorporate range limiting using twoplastic pins (supplied) and a handle locking mechanism thatprevents movement from the set position. This works bypulling the outer cover to a raised position to unlock andpushing the outer cover to a lower position to lock.Additionally the standard and remote sensing versions canbe tamperproofed using a specially designed plastic key ineither the locked or unlocked position.

As well as the choice of TRV options using separate thermalheads and valve bodies, two TRV head and body packs areavailable in angle and reverse angle patterns.

To complement the range there is a full range of accessoriesshown with the complete valve range.

The range of manual valves comprises twotraditional manual radiator valves consisting of a 1⁄2wheelhandle and lockshield with an angle pattern valve bodyand a concealed lockshield valve in angle and straightpattern valve body. Each valve is approved to BS 2767-10.

Installation

LocationIt is important that the sensing head is not exposed to direct sunlight, covered by curtains or subjected to direct heating from radiators, pipesor equipment such as television sets. If this occurs it will prevent thethermostatic head from sensing the room temperature properly. In suchcases a remote sensor or remote adjuster should be used to achievecorrect temperature control (see ‘Remote Sensor’ below).

To avoid premature closing of the valve thermostatic sensing headsshould not be mounted vertically at the top connection to a radiator. Ifspace does not permit horizontal mounting then a thermal head with aremote sensor should be used to achieve the best performance.

To avoid the problem of hydronic (water flow) noise it is recommendedthat the differential pressure does not exceed 0.2 bar. It is stronglyrecommended that an automatic bypass valve is fitted to any systemwith a high proportion of TRVs.

Fitting the Valve Body1. Using a suitable jointing material, screw the radiator adaptor tail into the flow side of the radiator; the valve is approved for two-way

(reverse flow) operation if it is not possible to identify the flow pipe. The inlet connection is designed for both copper and iron pipe.

2. If using screwed tube first ensure threads are clean and de-burred. Using a suitable jointing material, screw the valve body onto the tubealigning the valve body with the radiator tail.

3. Connect the valve body to the radiator tail and tighten the nut.

4. For copper tube cut, de-burr and fit tube to the valve body using the nipple and olive supplied.

Fitting the Thermostatic Head1. Unscrew the protective cap from the valve body of the thermostatic valve.

2. Adjust the head setting to maximum by pulling the handle upwards and then rotating it to setting 5

3. Push handle down to ensure that it is in the locked position and then place the head on the valve bodyso that the display pointer is visible to the user.

4. Engage the securing ring on the valve body carefully then tighten it without using excessive force

5. Test operation by lifting the handle and rotating it between setting 0 and 5.

6. Adjust the setting of the sensing head to the customer’s requirements and push down to lock thesetting.

Remote SensorThe remote sensor comes complete with a 2 metre capillary, sensing phial and phial housing. The adjustable head is fitted to the valve bodyin exactly the same way as above. The capillary should be carefully uncoiled and run to the intended phial location free from direct sunlight, extraneous sources of heat or other obstructions. Using the phial housing as a template, mark the position of the fixing holes and prepare thehole with a suitable wall plug. Clip the phial into the housing and then secure to the wall using the screws supplied. The capillary can beclipped to the wall using product code 49341199.

Operation

GeneralThe thermostatic radiator valve provides automatic temperature control of a room or space by regulating the opening and closing ofthe radiator valve dependent on the surrounding air temperature. The desired comfort temperature is pre selected by turning the hand wheel.

Temperature Range Adjustment

Temperature Setting Range0 * 1 2 3 4 5

Shut Off 7oC 11-13oC 15-17oC 19-21oC 23-25oC 27-29oC

Deviations of a few degrees are possible depending on the particular installation and design of the heating system. If the approximatetemperature values specified in the above table cannot be reached please contact your heating engineer.

Frost SettingIn the * position the valve opens automatically at a surrounding temperature of approximately 7°C, thus preventingthe system from freezing.

Shut Off Function 0The thermostatic valve is shut off and will not respond to changes in temperature. This may be used whendisconnecting the radiator.

Limiting the operating temperature rangeTwo limit pins are supplied with each thermal head which may be used to limit the temperature range.

To limit range between a minimum and maximum setting:1. Set to the desired position and insert pins into the holes in the base surrounding setting 3.2. Check that head movement is limited to the desired range.

For setting to a maximum only:1. Turn handle to the desired maximum position.2. Insert pin into first orifice lower than setting 3.

For setting to minimum only:1. Set to desired minimum position. 2. Insert pin into first orifice higher than setting 3.
