ABOUT BFK
Bowl for Kids is an easy and fun way to make a difference in the lives of children. As one
of two key fundraising events for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), Bowl for Kids enables
us to continue serving and supporting the children, families and volunteers in the BBBS
program. Together, with corporate sponsors and bowlers like you, nearly 1,000 bowlers
raise money for BBBS and are invited to enjoy a weekend of free bowling, along with
food, drinks, event t-shirt, souvenir team photos, and a chance to win door prizes.
HOW KIDS BENEFIT
Your support makes it possible for BBBS to create and nurture life-changing
relationships between the children we serve and caring adult mentors. A contribution of
$1,250 funds a full year of professional support for a child and their volunteer mentor,
with impressive results:
100% of youth mentored remain in school
99% of youth mentored avoid early parenting
98% of youth mentored improve or maintain academic performance

How It Works
STEP 1: Start a Team
Ask 4 of your co-workers, family or friends to join your team. Register now!
STEP 2: Fundraise
Each team member fundraises by asking their friends and family to support the children
in our community. They can give directly to your personal or team pages. (HINT:
Sharing your page on Facebook and Twitter really helps.)
STEP 3: Get a Costume
Get a special costume for the big event! Check out our pinboards for some fun costume
ideas.
STEP 4: Prepare to Party!
After you reach your team goal, contact Patty Morton at 512-807-3615 or at
[email protected] to schedule a 2-hour bowling timeslot the weekend of March
3 - 5, 2017. Your team will get two free games of bowling (including shoes and a ball),
food, drinks, event t-shirts, souvenir team photos, chances to win door prizes and much
more!

Like BBBS’ Facebook page, and stay up to date on what’s going on. Also, let your friends know you’re attending by
joining BFK on Facebook! You will be kept up to date on fundraising ideas and the latest happenings.
Did you know you can fundraise right from your Facebook page? Just share your BFK page link on Facebook and you’ll
be surprised by the results! Last year, participants raised nearly $15,000 just by sharing their pages on Facebook.
Facebook is a great tool for individuals as well as teams. Here’s how:
Suggestions for Individuals: Use your personal Facebook page to post about your participation in Bowl For Kids.
Be sure to include how much you are hoping to raise and why the cause is important to you. Attach the link for
your personal BFK page so that your contacts can click on the link to donate to you. When you receive a
donation, post a thank you. Donors like public thanks, and it also serves as a reminder for those who have yet to
give!
Suggestions for Team Captains: Have you formed a team? Announce it on your status bar. Does your team need
members? Has your team met or exceeded their recruitment goal? Share the news! Has your team raised 25%
or 50% of their fundraising goal? Post about the progress and keep your team motivated. Did someone on your
team get a large donation? Post their success on your page and theirs. This type of praise will motivate your
teammates, and they will continue fundraising.
Follow @bigmentoring and use #BFK17 to share your tweets. Re-tweet messages from #BFK17 with a request for
donations to your Bowl for Kids fundraising efforts. Send out messages and Twitter pics about your fundraising efforts
and events for #BFK17.

Very Important Bowler (VIB)
What is a “VIB”?
“VIB” status is special recognition for teams or individuals
who raise $1,250 or more for Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Central Texas.
Why are these bowlers recognized?
By raising $1,250 they’ve sponsored a child in the Big
Brothers Big Sisters program for an entire year! This is a
small way to say ’thank you’ for helping so many Little
Brothers and Sisters achieve success in life.

How Do I Raise Money?
After you’ve registered, you can create or join a team. The fastest and easiest way to reach your
team’s donation goal of a minimum of $650 is to ask people to support your cause. From your
personalized webpage, you can easily customize your images and text, send custom e-mail
messages, update your Facebook status and tweet! Here’s how you get started:
1. Click here and log in to your personal page.
2. After logging in, you can send e-mails, tweet or post to Facebook. If you choose email, your
contacts will receive a custom email from you with a direct link to your page.
3. Lastly, besides fundraising online, you can also print a pledge sheet to place in your
workplace, church, gym — anywhere! The pledge sheet is a great way to gather off-line
donations, or drive traffic to your team page.

OF THE MONEY I RAISE, HOW MUCH WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHILDREN SERVED?
All expenses of Bowl for Kids are completely underwritten by our corporate sponsors; therefore,
100 percent of the money raised through team participation goes to support the children in our
community.
With 600 children on our waiting list, the more funds raised, the more children Big Brothers Big
Sisters can serve.

BFK is scheduled to take place March 3 - 5, 2017 at Highland Lanes (8909 Burnet Road, Austin,
TX). Several time slots are available each day, so please contact us if you have questions
regarding availability.

WHEN ARE MY DONATIONS DUE?
Donations are due by the time you bowl. We strongly encourage you to have all donations
confirmed by March 3, 2017 to ensure your team will be eligible to bowl. Before you arrive at the
bowling alley, don’t forget to collect your donations and pledge sheet(s). If all your donations
were online, then you’re all set!
HOW DO I GET DONATIONS MATCHED BY MY COMPANY?

HOW MUCH DOES OUR TEAM NEED TO RAISE TO PARTICIPATE?
Each team’s goal is $650. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be evenly distributed over each team
member. If one teammate raises $50 while another raises $200, then you’re still on track. It’s a
team effort!
WHAT IF I WANT MORE THAN 5 PEOPLE ON MY TEAM?
To invite more than 4 friends, just start a second team online. Please note that due to space
limitations on bowling lanes, your additional teams will also have a team goal of raising $650.
So, if you have two teams, your total goal is $1,300. If you’re looking to have multiple corporate
