Important Testing Dates– Mark your Calendars!
Third through sixth grade students will be participating in the many state
assessments this school year. To ensure our students are not distracted
and have the best possible testing environment, the campus will be closed
to visitors on these days. Please note these dates on your calendar.
During these testing times: Be sure your child has a good breakfast and is
well rested from the night before. Have your child on time for class (7:55 am). Schedule
all appointments after school or on other school days. The tests are timed,
so if a student leaves during testing, he or she will not be able to complete
their test. All technology devices (cell phones, etc.) will be collected and
turned off during testing. Texas law prohibits teachers and students from
discussing any aspects of the STAAR tests. Therefore, for test security
and integrity, please remember that Boyd will be a closed campus to visitors and vol-
unteers on these specific days.

2017 Community Survey: Make Your Voice Count!
Allen ISD wants to tap into its most valuable asset — you!
The 2017 Community Survey invites feedback from every parent about the quality of
our schools and programs, and their priorities for our district.
The survey launches Tuesday, Jan. 24, and asks about communications, academics, op-
erations, district challenges, community mission, preparing students for the future, and
measuring educational excellence. Your feedback will help district leaders identify
trends, gauge their progress in addressing important issues, and determine if opinions
about the district are changing. If you have a current email address on file with the dis-
trict, check your email for a personal survey invitation and survey link. Or you can take
the survey at http://tiny.cc/allenisdcommunity. The survey is offered in both English
and Spanish. You have until Friday, Feb. 10, to share your feedback. Allen ISD has
partnered with independent research and communications firm K12 Insight to adminis-
ter the survey and compile the results. All responses are strictly confidential. No one at
the district will be able to connect you to your answers, and K12 Insight’s final reports
will share only the overall results. “Only by listening to our community can we be
confident that we’re making the best decisions for our district,” said Dr. Scott Nevin,
superintendent of schools. “I want to make sure our decisions align with your priorities.
I hope you will join this important conversation.”
For more information about the survey, contact Tim Carroll at [email protected]
or call 972-727-0510.

From the Nurse: HEAD LICE
Welcome back everyone. The USA and many other countries are experiencing an epidemic on what they are
calling a “super lice”. Unfortunately, Texas has been one of the states that have been hit the worse. Reminder
about Allen ISD school policy: If live lice are seen, students are sent home, instructed to use a FDA approved
lice removal product. Once the product is used student can return to school with instructions to use the product
again in 7 days. If nits are seen students are NOT removed from school. Below are some links you may find

FACTS:
Head lice crawl from child to child through head to head contact.
Lice cannot hop, jump or fly.
ANY child can get head lice.
Lice can live up to 30 days on a person’s head and lay from 50 to 150 eggs. If the louse falls off a person, it dies within 2 days.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
Lice are small brown, tan to grayish-white insects, about the size of a sesame seed.
The nits or egg sacks are opaque, white oblong-shaped sacks which are firmly attached to the hair shaft. These nits cannot be
brushed out. They can only be manually removed with a nit comb or pulled out by hand.
Suspect lice if your child scratches and/or complains of an itchy head. Itching is the first sign of head lice.
Check the hair and scalp very carefully especially behind the ears and near the neckline. The best method is to use a magnifying
glass under a bright light.
HOW TO TREAT IF INFECTED:
Wash your child’s hair with a product formulated to kill lice.
Have your child sit under a bright light and remove all nits with a metal comb that is designed to remove nits. Remove remain-
ing nits with your fingernails. Failure to do this important step always results in reoccurrence.
Nits are not killed by lice shampoos, so it will be necessary to wash the hair with the lice product a second time in 7 to 10 days to
It’s Here!
Flu season has officially hit Boyd. The first confirmed case of the flu has been reported. It is the time of
year when we need to take extra precautions to stay healthy and keep that flu bug away.
Please take special care in wiping down your tables, door knobs, car doors, etc.. Make sure your student be
diligent in washing their hands and using hand sanitizer. Students are also having a lot of issues with allergy
symptoms. Continue to stress coughing and sneezing into their sleeves of upper arms. Please contact our
FYI From the Nurse
