Industry 4.0
Fourth Industrial Revolution is marked through the use of cyberphysical systems (CPS) and the Internet of Things (IoT) andServices
The integration of cyber technologies that make the productsInternet-enabled, facilitates innovative services to achieve, amongother things, Internet-based diagnostics, maintenance, operation, etc. in a cost-effective and efficient manner
Realization of new business models, operating concepts andsmart controls, and focusing on the user and his or her individualneeds.

Industries influenced by Industrie 4.0
TransportationSensors and smart
software can be used tocollect data that can help thedriver operate the vehicle ina manner that helps savefuel. Connected infrastructure
will also work with connectedvehicle to help reduce trafficand prevent accidents.
RetailsRetailers begin to use
Bluetooth beacons in theirstories to better reach theircustomers and offerpersonalized discounts.
EnergyIoT provide utility
companies the necessarydata to better predictdemand, spot outages, andhelp the company knowwhen to schedule repairs.

HealthcareConnecting the healthcare
industry means betterservice for the patient. Byconnecting an MRI machineto the internet, consultationin remote could be done andalso the history of patienthealth could be maintained.
ManufacturingThis enables factory operators to not
only see when a piece of machineryneed to be repaired and gives insighton how to make the entire system towork more efficiently.
Agriculture: IoT device installations are estimated to grow from 30 million in 2015 to 75 millionin 2020. Farmers collect data about their crops and livestock in a variety of ways to optimizetheir yields.

IoT based Manufacturing projects @ IITM*Diagnostic system to Grind-TrakTM
(Enhancing efficiency of Grinding process using IoT)
Diagnostic system developed at IIT M Grind-TrakTM -A portable diagnostic kit
The fundamental idea is to monitor and analyze the vital signals of grinding process usingprocess monitoring tools and techniques. Analyze the data to enhance the process efficiency
*Diagnostic system was developed in IIT Madras as a B.Tech final year project, in order to evaluate the cylindrical
grinding process. This academic project has been adopted and successfully commercialized by MGT, as Grind TrakTM.
IoT based Manufacturing projects @ IITM*Automation of Grinding Process Intelligence
(Development of smarter grinding machineusing IoT)
To develop intelligent grinding machine that learns and understands its own process andguides the operator according to the requirement.
*Automation of Grinding Process Intelligence (AGI) is one among 11 projects funded by DHI–GoI, under the
establishment ‘Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Center’.
