NZEI - Teacher Strike Action: School Closed for Instruction May 29th

The primary teachers union are continuing to negotiate on behalf of its members after the government failed to adequately address the four mains issues of focus:

the crisis in education time and workload issues with salary and relativities (including pay parity with our secondary colleagues) career development

As a result, members have voted to strike on Wednesday May 29th. As most of the teaching staff at Karaka School are union members, the school will be closed for instruction on that day.

Good News Call of the Week:

Knowledge-A-Thon—Taking place on Friday 24th May. The sponsors are being gathered, the practising is happening at school and hopefully at home and everyone (including us adults) are learning new things. We have got awesome prizes which include Warehouse vouchers, lunchroom vouchers and scholastic books for most money gathered, most sponsors gathered, best decorated covers AND most exciting of all—the children who get 100% will go into a draw to win a family outing AND the class/awhina who achieves the best overall scores, gets to have a movie afternoon including popcorn with Mrs Glover.

Students NEED TO BRING THEIR FOLDERS BACK ON FRIDAY. We need these to:

1. Keep a tally on their results

2. Their name won’t be in any of the spot prizes without it!

Also remember we have the best decorated folder—you’ve still got time to decorate and memorise your knowledge answers.
