CELEBRATING LEARNING & ACHIEVEMENT Thank you to all those who joined us for the PINK breakfast to show your support for a #BullyfreeNZ. This communal show of a commitment to Korero Mai, Korero Atu, Mauri Tu, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying was amazing to see. Karaka School was a sea of pink - check out some pics below. We wish to thank the following companies for their generous donations—Drury Meats for the sausages, Bakers Delight Pukekohe for the bread and Frenz Pukekohe for the eggs.

NZEI - Teacher Strike Action: School Closed for Instruction May 29th
The primary teachers union are continuing to negotiate on behalf of its members after the government failed to adequately address the four mains issues of focus:
the crisis in education time and workload issues with salary and relativities (including pay parity with our secondary colleagues) career development
As a result, members have voted to strike on Wednesday May 29th. As most of the teaching staff at Karaka School are union members, the school will be closed for instruction on that day.
Good News Call of the Week:
Congratulations to Riley C our Good News Call of the Week! Riley is such a delight to have as a member of our learning community. He consistently shows our values of poipoi and akoranga and has made great progress in his learning. Thanks for caring for others and supporting them with their learning too Riley - so proud of you!

Photolife
Our school’s free delivery period expires at midnight on Sunday 2nd June. The office also has order envelopes for families who do not have access to the internet or do not wish to use this system.
Pacifika Group Meeting
Parents, if you would like to be involved in starting up a Pacifika group at Karaka School, then we need you!
Please come to our first meeting on Tuesday 28th May at 12.30pm in Tui room to have a chat and see what we can do.

Knowledge-A-Thon—Taking place on Friday 24th May. The sponsors are being gathered, the practising is happening at school and hopefully at home and everyone (including us adults) are learning new things. We have got awesome prizes which include Warehouse vouchers, lunchroom vouchers and scholastic books for most money gathered, most sponsors gathered, best decorated covers AND most exciting of all—the children who get 100% will go into a draw to win a family outing AND the class/awhina who achieves the best overall scores, gets to have a movie afternoon including popcorn with Mrs Glover.
Students NEED TO BRING THEIR FOLDERS BACK ON FRIDAY. We need these to:
1. Keep a tally on their results
2. Their name won’t be in any of the spot prizes without it!
Also remember we have the best decorated folder—you’ve still got time to decorate and memorise your knowledge answers.
